Hello, so I am Rithika. Once I have told a secret or a truth to my friend Neelam. She is my best friend. The truth was that I went to Goa with my friend who was just a stranger few months back. We met online, we started talking and suddenly we made a plan to go to Goa, meet Goa. Like first time we were about to meet at Goa. So this was the truth I told my friend Neelam. Neelam got shocked when she got to know that I am going to Goa to meet a friend. That too he is a stranger for me and first time I am meeting him, that too in a different place, Goa. So she was shocked. I told her because I know that she is my really good friend and I haven't told this thing to anyone else. So I thought I should tell someone this thing because though I have trust that guy but still if anything happens to me there is someone who knows that where am I or who can keep a track on me so that the guy also get to know that Neelam is her friend and she is telling everything to Neelam. So I told her everything and the basic thing behind telling her all the things is that she can keep an eye on me or just can make a track on me. So she is a very good friend of mine, kinda best friend.

Yes, there have been times when I kept secrets from Neelam, usually to protect her feelings or avoid unnecessary worry. However, I always try to be honest with her because our friendship is built on trust.

My best friend, Deepali, she's one of my best friends, and the moment I felt that I should speak truth to my friend was last year. One year back, I told her that I have been selected for the government job and I am now ready to go for the job, but she was very much surprised at that moment, and she started crying that it's the time to leave, and first of all, she was also unhappy that I have hided from her about this truth, it was a secret that I did not share with anyone, but when I felt that it's time to share with everyone, then I shared the secret with her at that moment, she was totally surprised.

Follow up questions

How did your friend react after you told her the truth?
After I told Deepali about my job selection, she was initially surprised and emotional. She started crying because she realized it was a significant change in our lives. However, once she processed the news, she became supportive and congratulated me, showing her happiness for my achievement.

Why do you think it was important to share this truth with your friend?
I felt it was important to share this truth with Deepali because she is one of my closest friends. Keeping such a significant secret felt wrong, and I wanted her to be part of my journey. I value our friendship, and I believe that sharing important news strengthens our bond.

Have you ever had to keep a secret from your friend before this?
Yes, I have kept secrets from Deepali before, but they were usually minor things. This was the first major secret I kept, and it felt heavy on my conscience. I realized that honesty is crucial in a friendship, and I didn't want to jeopardize our relationship by hiding something so important.

So at first I couldn't say it to her because we were not that close but as we gradually grew closer over a short time I decided that I have to tell her and so when I decided to tell her that I don't like it when she initiates this much physical contact with me. And her reaction was quite what I expected, she was a little weirded out that I was a little like that but she understood it after a little while and I believe that she was quite hurt but it's okay because I had established a boundary between us and I'm glad that I did it. It Ends With Us is a book I read recently. It's by the author Colleen Hoare. It's mainly a story about two teenagers, Atlas and Lily, and how they just handle their life going through high school, adolescence, and just domestic violence at home. Both of them come from very, very different families. However, they have one common determining factor between them, which is domestic violence. The abuse that they've seen their moms go through is just insane, and they connect through that on a different level. They're actually in the same high school, but they never speak to each other until Atlas actually crashes into an empty house next to Lily's villa. When Atlas is homeless and he doesn't have anywhere to go, he just comes and breaks into the house next to Lily's, and Lily helps him with all the daily necessities like clothes and food, medicines and stuff. Furthermore, their friendship blossoms into love, but it doesn't really fructify as Atlas has to leave. This book really gave me a lot of knowledge about domestic abuse and how to deal with it.

Well, there was a time when I gradually started to think that I should give the reality check to my friend. His name is Utkarsh and we became friends when we were in 8th class. So gradually when spending time with him and other friends, I noticed that he is a liar. He usually says lie a lot of times. And for just for his own sake, I started to feel like I have to give him the reality check and tell him the truth. Then I went to him and asked bro are you free for now and I want to tell you something which is pretty important for you and he said yeah you can say. Then I told him that bro you should stop lying because it is very hurtful in long term and it can also reduce your reputation. Well for first, he was kind of sad and also angry and was not accepting the fact. He said he actually became defensive to me and after it, he started to accept the truth and even told me that I should tell him other mistakes and then he moved on.

    Band 6-7

So truth about his lack of skills. My friend name is Roshan, he has been there with me since childhood. So one truth that I actually told him was his lack of skills and experience for looking up for job opportunities. He got rejected from more than 100 companies and he was constantly just applying for just getting into any of those jobs but he was not even clearing the first round of the CV verification and going on for interview. So he just asked me for advice, can you just look at my CV and work experience, what more I can kind of add to my CV so that it comes, it's an eye-catchy CV for the HRs. I kind of pointed out few points, the skills that he need to have for applying for a job role that he is looking for is not adequate, his personal experience like he has not done any research internship or working in any other company or as a full-time job role so he kind of lacks experience so he has to kind of overlap it with using different courses, you have to upgrade his skills to make it an attractive CV for HR and he took my all the advice sportingly as he knew that there are somewhat changes that needs to be required and this was very important for his future as getting unemployed for more than two months is a long period and if he continues to do so then he would not be able to get a job so it was an important truth that I have to tell him.

    Band 6-7

When I was just 18 years old and my best friend Dheeraj Guria was also 18, I told him that you know, don't watch YouTube videos related to stock market that give you advice in which they says that you will make 100% profit by doing this and this. I recently told my friend a very important truth and my friend is trustee and I told her that I'm going to study abroad next year and the truth hits her heart cause she's been with me for nearly six years and now I'm leaving her beside for my education. She first got sad but then she wishes me well. I think it's really hard for her to leave me but for studies we have to compromise ourself. She is happy and that's it.

    Band 6-7

I would like to talk about a time when I had to tell an important truth to my friend Abia. She is one of my closest friends from college. We had been in the same class and shared similar rooms in hostel life and the truth was that besides whatever she studies and she takes so much time for studying. She always studies each and everything very neatly and clearly but her grades always was low. She would burn the midnight oil and it was a tough nut to crack. The problem was her handwriting was very messy and it was very small and it was very difficult to read. So I always tell her to write clearly and more specifically but she she thought that I was offending her and at first she neglected my advice and tried repeating the same mistakes but after realizing that she came and apologized to me. She started improving her writing skills and I sat with her and practiced her for improving her handwriting. Now she has a lot of improvement and her grades are now currently progressively increasing day by day

    Band 6-7

So there was a friend of mine, we both were friends since our childhood and then we did a same job, we become colleagues. So what happened one day, one of my colleagues told me something about my friend and it was about something related to work, about her work. And I did not tell her because I wasn't sure about it and my colleague told me not to tell her. But by mistake, we both, me and my friend were sitting in a cafe and by mistake I told her the truth that my friend told me, that my another colleague told me. At that time, she was shocked and she wasn't able to digest the fact that another colleague of mine has told this about her. And for me, it was really important to tell her because it was something very personal that was a rumor that was being spread and I don't want her identity to be ruined. A guilt inside me was eating me and was pushing me to tell the truth so that the rumor that is spreading of her should be stopped. And that is why I told her all the story that has been made up by a colleague just to disrespect my friend and put her in a situation that she will never forget and yeah, so I told her the truth.

    Band 6-7

Ashan and I were friends since kindergarten. We grew up in the same town. We went to the same school. We liked the same things. Even our parents were friends. We liked the color blue so much that we always wore blue colored clothes. We used to sit on the same bench since kindergarten till high school. She and I were so close that if one of us was absent, the teacher would automatically ask the other where Sneha went or Ashna went. We were that close. Then we stepped into teenagehood where things got a little bit dramatic. As you can imagine, we also fell for the same guy which none of us didn't expect or realize until it was too late. But it was important to tell the truth to her. I've never wanted anything bad for her. She's been my best friend since day one. The one person I care more about in the whole wide world. And of course, I told her the truth. She was upset at first. But we got through it as friends do.

    Band 6-7

So I had a friend and I don't really feel comfortable sharing her name so let's just call her Annie. So I told Annie that I felt left out because she was always hanging out with this other girl and she did hang out a lot with me as well but I felt that she was more connected with the other girl compared to me like I felt they both were closer and I didn't really feel like her actual best friend and I just felt like she was just using me as a second option instead of her actual friend and when I told her that she did try to improve that and she did try to change it about herself and she moreover she told the others like we were in a group at that time so whenever they were talking the others of the group were talking she would say that hey let's include her as well referring to me and it didn't really work but she would still hang out with the other girl and it didn't really work out so in the end I just broke the friendship with her. Now we did, now I do talk to her a lot but we aren't really friends. She does consider me a friend but I don't consider her my friend and I felt that it was important to tell her that because I was really feeling left out and lonely and I had even gotten depressed for quite some time so in the end it didn't really work out. I appreciate her.

    Band 6-7

I am a person who always tried my best to be real with everyone. I remember last time I have to say truth in front of my friend just because it was a scam in our school or in our class. I remember there was a scam going on in our class like our teacher distributed the exam paper saying that it is a scam. I am a person who always tried my best to be real with everyone. I remember last time my friend was under the weather and due to that she was not able to attend school for a long time. But after her recovery she finally come to school and there was a SPY test announced by our teacher. We were a little shocked but we still tried our best to score great in our exams. Even my friend is a topper she used to give her best. She worked down to dust to score higher in every exams. At that time the paper was leaked by our teacher to another student who was weak in that subject. But we was not even aware of that. Moreover we feel like it's a big scam with us because we also burn our midnight oil just to be great at our classes. So it is a partiality with us. So I tell her the truth that it is the teacher's mistake that we are not able to achieve the real marks. We should get it. And after that we went to principal office to discuss this matter and even the teacher got the right punishment he deserves and we get the right marks we deserve.
