Usually a lot of activities help increase your cognitive and analytical skills but this one activity that I feel kinds of waste time and it's not useful because it doesn't help you in any sense. One of them is definitely gossiping about people. I feel it to give you a sense of what it is. It's when few people sit down and talk about someone and just talk bad about them and usually people talk a lot of bad things and it doesn't make sense to me personally because it's not helpful. Usually people do a lot of jealousy or envy someone and it's not a good habit to do because they are not at loss, you are at loss because you are wasting your time doing nothing and additionally it does not help you in any sense. So in conclusion, I would like to say that it's better to invest your time in something that is useful. For example, playing games such as Sudoku, Uno, Monopoly. This would definitely help develop and master your skills in a lot of things. It helps improve your brain function.

I believe activities like reading, learning a new skill, or engaging in sports are far more productive. These activities not only enhance personal growth but also provide a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment.

One of the activity that usually waste most of my time is packing my skincare and body care products while I am travelling. This is probably because I use a lot of products for my skin and body. When it comes to travelling from one place to another place, it usually consumes most of my time rather than packing for my clothes and other things. Moreover, I don't think I can take each and every product from one place to other place while travelling but some products are very necessary and it needs extra care while packing them. So I think I could find a more alternate way to take this safely while packing while moving from one place to other place and furthermore, packing hair care products is also a hassle because all of these bottles and the packaging, it's very complicated and it's rather difficult to pack them in an easy order. In order to keep them safe, it requires a lot more care while packing it. Yeah, I do think packing all of these hair care products, skincare products and body care products wastes my time while packing.

Follow up questions

What strategies could you use to pack more efficiently?
I could create a checklist of essential products to take, prioritize multi-use items, and use travel-sized containers. Additionally, organizing products in separate pouches could save time and make packing easier.

Have you ever considered simplifying your skincare routine?
Yes, I have thought about it. Simplifying my routine by using fewer products or opting for multi-functional products could save time and make packing easier when I travel.

Do you think packing is more challenging for certain types of trips?
Absolutely. For longer trips or trips to different climates, packing becomes more complicated. I need to consider various products for different conditions, which adds to the time spent packing.

When I was a kid, I had a little pencil box which had these four buttons which gave the pencil box an operative use. When you press the button, the box would open up. When you press the second button, a little part of it would slide out. Basically it was just a little electronical and a fun thing to have and I owned it when I was in 6th. One day after break, I was standing and talking there with one of my friends and another friend of mine was running through the hallway and accidentally she pushed my shoulder and my pencil box hit the ground and it broke into multiple pieces to the point that it was not functional anymore.

Answer

It Ends With Us is a book I read recently. It's by the author Colleen Hoare. It's mainly a story about two teenagers, Atlas and Lily, and how they just handle their life going through high school, adolescence, and just domestic violence at home. Both of them come from very, very different families. However, they have one common determining factor between them, which is domestic violence. The abuse that they've seen their moms go through is just insane, and they connect through that on a different level. They're actually in the same high school, but they never speak to each other until Atlas actually crashes into an empty house next to Lily's villa. When Atlas is homeless and he doesn't have anywhere to go, he just comes and breaks into the house next to Lily's, and Lily helps him with all the daily necessities like clothes and food, medicines and stuff. Furthermore, their friendship blossoms into love, but it doesn't really fructify as Atlas has to leave. This book really gave me a lot of knowledge about domestic abuse and how to deal with it.

One activity that I would like to describe which usually wastes my time is watching a lot of web series. So actually the addiction to watching a lot of web series started during the COVID time when life was almost still. And there were a lot of web series that were getting released on a weekly basis. And also there were certain web series where each episode used to get released every weekend. And it used to make me wait for it and want for more of the web series episodes. And also I usually watch the web series to unwind from my hectic work life. And it is also a great source of entertainment. I like to watch web series at least an episode a day which makes me unwind from my day to day activities. And it gives a great relaxation to me. And it takes up most of my time because usually the web series which are being recently made is made a lot more interesting. Where you wouldn't want to stop watching after an episode. You would want to watch more and more of it. Because there is always a cliffhanger at the end of each episode. So you would always want to watch all the episodes in one sitting.

Watching web series can significantly reduce my productivity as I often find myself binge-watching instead of completing tasks. It creates a cycle where I prioritize entertainment over responsibilities, leading to procrastination and stress.

What genres of web series do you prefer and why?

Have you ever tried to limit your web series watching? What happened?
Yes, I tried to limit my watching by setting a specific time for it, but I found it challenging. The temptation to watch just one more episode often led me to break my own rules, highlighting how addictive it can be.

Today I would like to talk about the activities that consumed most of my time. So while I was in China, I bought this gaming console called PlayStation 5. I bought it during my intern year. I carried it from China to India which is my home country. I used to play with the console a lot. I spent most of my time with the console which affected my school performance. I used to get really low grades which made me feel really sad. My parents used to scold me and they were like, what are you doing with your life? You need to study and do your post-graduation. But I got so addicted with the console that I even left studying. That was the thing that greatly affected my life. But after few years, I got to know the importance of studies and then I threw the console away and started studying for my post-graduation. Today I cleared my PLAB exam which is a United Kingdom Medical Licensing exam which helped me do my post-graduation in United Kingdom. The activity that I considered is waste of time scrolling my Instagram website. I usually do when I get a time and I particularly take time out of my schedule, my working duty and I go on scrolling on Instagram and I see the people posting their day-to-day activities. Sometimes just I get involved in that and I started feeling like why they have been so much, they just, why they are so much involved, it influences me and it sometimes depresses me that I don't have that what they possess. So I think this is what makes me think that this activity is waste of time but being just getting in touch with what they are going through is not waste of time but being getting involved and getting influenced by them, their activities will divert our mind moreover it has both advantages that we can keep our mind in peace and get sort of entertainment with that. However, just we must not get completely involved and get influenced by them. Many when I feel like they are showing what only they have to show and the insight is very vast to be seen which they are hiding, so we must not get affected by them. Many people who are very emotional and sensitive, they get affected by that. So I think waste of time.

I think wasting time is something so inevitable for us as human beings and so it is also for me. And for me the activity that wastes most of the time is scrolling through social media and it is mostly Instagram to be specific. This is because the platform has such short format videos that it makes the dopamine rise very immediately and I think people enjoy that high and so do I and it makes me lose track of time. As to answer the question of when I do it, well it is like an addiction now. So whenever I have my phone and I am not doing anything specific or I have just woken up, I would just gravitate towards my phone and open the app like unconsciously even in that. What I mean to say is I wouldn't consciously think about opening the app. My hand would just drag itself and open the app and I would scroll through for example say cat videos and some funny videos but it would waste a lot of time and I would be very lagging behind in my assignments and my projects and then I would have to cram through my studies or I would have to finish my assignments very late or I would be very...

I won't use phone very often since I'm working on shifts so I'll get very less minimal time to use my phone. But whenever I'm having off or any leave, I usually watch phone a lot. I scroll down reels and sometimes I see a game and then I download it and I can start playing. So I think that is a kind of waste of time for me because time is very precious. When I'm watching reels or any social media, I won't think about that. Then when I stop using it and I'll be sitting alone, I'll think why I wasted my time. I would have done some good things, I would have went out, I would have just spoken to other people. And when I'm bored, I usually watch my phone. Okay, so the activity that wastes my time everyday is travelling by local trains. I use local trains everyday for going to the work and I almost spend 3 hours everyday in a local train to and fro. The reason why I use local trains is because there is no other option for travelling when it comes to my city. Mumbai is not a piece of a cake. It requires a lot of hard work and struggle. Due to lack of good transportation available in the city, most of the people in Mumbai usually choose the crowded local trains as the only viable option to travel to their workplace. One of them is me. I travel everyday for 3 hours in a local train as there is no other option available for me. These trains provide a fast and quite viable option, cheaper option to travel but at the same time, it costs 3 hours of our daily lives. This is how I waste my time in the local trains although these trains are a blessing in disguise for a lot of people but at the same time a risk for a lot. Many lose their lives while travelling in the trains. 3 hours are a lot to start a new activity. One can go for a gym, one can learn driving, one can do swimming in that particular time. As I am wasting my time in the local trains, I am not able to concentrate or give my time to other activities. This is why I often feel exhausted when I come back home. I call it a day by only seeing something on the mobile phone and then going to sleep. And everyday it's the same story that is repeating. These 3 hours that I waste in the local trains are not going to come back. And I have to accept this.

Band 6-7

The activity that I think that usually wastes my time is using cell phones and using cell phones means that using social media a lot, getting myself indulgent, scrolling reels, shorts and playing games that keeps my concentration very poor in terms of getting to getting more focused and practical life instead I can focus on reading books, learn new activities, learn new skills which will eventually help me to grow more in my career and which will also help me to achieve majority of my goals. Nowadays people of my age are very very busy scrolling videos and they're not very particular about their career they're just waiting wasting their time on mobile phones, tablets, laptops irrespective of doing good things to enhance their skills, goals and to be focused, to be more disciplined.

Band 6-7

The activity that usually wastes my time is the chore of folding my own clothes. The dresses that have been dried after washing, they need to be folded in a neat manner. But since I am a very busy person and my lifestyle is very hectic, I just keep all the washed clothes in a confined corner instead of neatly packing them in their designated places. So this chore always makes me tired. I just need these clothes to be in their place and I feel like it doesn't matter if they are well packed, although it will look pleasing to our eyes, but the main function or the main reason we have or we wear those clothes is just so they can settle in proper place. And I feel that this chore or this household work doesn't need to consume most of my time because they are not much effective in making use of my time. In my humble opinion, folding clothes can be a chore that can be omitted from our mundane routine. With my busy lifestyle, I don't have things to do which is mundane. And this job of neatly packing the clothes and stuffing them away, it definitely breaks my energy of the day and I will love to omit this routine from my regular daily stuff that I do. Yeah, that's what I have.
