Other IELTS Test Centres in India
When applying for the IELTS, applicants must be familiar with the exam norms and IELTS test centre regulations given by the IDP. Negating specific rules can even disqualify the test.
Read the given instructions carefully.
- You must carry your Identity Proof and Passport or National ID (Voter ID, Aadhaar card, Driving license) for the test.
- Your passport number, signature, date of birth, and photograph must sync with your passport and national ID.
- Provide valid proof of identification during registration before the speaking exam.
- Ensure all your electronic devices and other personal belongings are turned off and placed outside the test room. Applicants who do not turn off their phones or keep one in their possession will be disqualified.
- If any conditions interfere with your performance, notify the invigilator or test supervisor promptly on test day.
- You are not allowed to wear a watch inside the IELTS test centres. However, wall clocks will be available in all the test centres. In case of a computer-delivered IELTS Exam, a virtual clock will be visible on your computer screen.
- Stay aware of the time and manage it effectively to attempt all the questions on time.
- Do not impersonate someone else or have someone else copy you.
- Do not attempt to cheat or replicate another candidate’s work.
- During the test, do not use a Dictionary, Spell-checker, Electronic recorder, Bluetooth Devices, or Mobile Phones. Any applicant who violates this rule will be disqualified and asked to leave.
- Once the test has begun, do not speak to other applicants.
- Smoking or eating in the exam hall is strictly prohibited during test hours.
- Do not attempt to recreate any portion of the test in any format or medium. The candidates' test scores will be rendered invalid if they engage in such activities.
- Do not remove any items used during the examination, like exam papers, speaking task cards, response papers, and working papers.

IELTS Test Date Booking: A Step-by-Step Guide
You can apply for your IELTS Exam either online or offline.
The Online application procedure is easier. Make sure to read the instructions carefully before beginning with your application.
The essential steps are listed below:
- Log on to the IELTS IDP India Website
- Choose the option Register for IELTS
- Select your Test Mode (Computer-delivered/Paper-based)
- Select your Test Type (Academic/General)
- Choose your desired Test Location from the available options
- Choose your preferred date and time slot from the list given
- Click on the Register Button, and complete the online registration form
- After completing the registration, you will be prompted to pay the IELTS exam fee of INR 16,250. Complete the payment using your preferred payment method.
- After completing the payment, you will receive a Confirmation Mail with your test details, including the test date, time, and location.
Remember to take a printout of your acknowledgement mail and save the given details for your future reference.
Remark: Try to book your slots early. The test centres can fill up quickly, especially in popular cities.
For offline registration, you can visit your nearest IDP IELTS branch or Referral Partner. The documents required at the time of registration include:
- Photocopy of your Passport ID
- Signed and Dated Declaration Document.
Ensure you have a valid passport before starting with your application.
How to Change Your IELTS Date?
It is possible to change your IELTS Exam Slot after completing your application process. Now, IDP allows you to transfer or reschedule your test online.
You can transfer your test date only if the test date is at least 15 days from the date you are applying for transfer. You need to justify your reason during the application.
You can reschedule the test for 34 days or more without stating any reason.
The allocation of the new Test Date will be at the sole discretion of the Centre and subject to the availability of a slot.
IELTS Slot Change: Online Mode
Given below is the step-wise procedure for changing your IELTS Exam Centre Online:
- Visit the official website of IDP IELTS India
- Login to your account using your credentials
- Select your Transfer Reason
- Upload the first page of your passport
- Upload the last page of your passport
- Upload your supporting documents for the transfer (for example, if your reason is a Medical Emergency, then submit a Medical Certificate)
- After uploading the documents, check for an acknowledgement pop-up
The IDP IELTS team will contact you within 3 working days to confirm your transfer request. If declined, you will receive an email or an SMS informing you. If accepted, you can proceed to book another slot.
- Login again to your account
- Select your preferred test date and city
- Read and accept the terms and conditions
- Upload your passport copy
- Choose your preferred payment gateway, and make the payment online
Once the payment is successful, your IELTS Test Date will be rescheduled to the new Test Date.
IELTS Slot Change: Offline Mode
For Offline Test Transfer, you should submit a request to your IELTS Exam Centre with the following documents.
- Fill and submit the Test Date Transfer & Cancellation/Refund Application Form
- Submit the supporting documents
The Test Date Transfer & Cancellation/Refund Application Form is available from the official website of IELTS IDP India.
The Supporting Documents allocated for your IELTS Date transfer are
- Medical Certificate
- Death/Cremation Certificate
- Letter from a Doctor
- Police FIR
- Passport Renewal Receipt/receipt from the Immigration Department
Request Under Extraordinary Circumstances
If the application for Test Date Transfer & Cancellation/Refund is made less than 15 days before the original test date ( but before starting the test), then the application should fulfil the conditions of Extraordinary Circumstances to be accepted by the Centre. The conditions are listed below:
- Serious illness: Being hospitalised with any serious illness, making the candidate not able to sit the test. This includes severe conditions such as typhoid, jaundice, eye flu, infectious disease, surgery, etc. Please note that conditions such as ordinary viral fever, cough & cold, and stomach upset will not be considered under this.
- Serious injury: Either hospitalised with severe injury or fracture of the hand used for writing.
- Loss or Bereavement: Death of a close family member, hardships/trauma
- Victim of Crime
- Victim of a traffic accident
- Loss of Passport after applying for the test
- Passport submitted to the passport office for any services after applying
For an application to be considered under the category of Extraordinary Circumstances, you must apply in writing, along with the relevant document attested by a first-class government officer.
The documents considered for the application are
- A medical certificate signed by a registered medical practitioner and bearing his registration number
- Hospital admission certificate and discharge summary (in case of hospitalisation)
- Police report/FIR
- A death certificate signed by a registered medical practitioner and bearing her registration number
- Receipt from the passport office detailing the passport number and the expected date of when the passport will be returned
You have to submit either the original or the certified copy of the supporting documents to the Centre. If you submit a certified copy, the original documents must be brought along with the application and shown to the Centre.
The Exam Centre will make the final decision after verifying the submitted documents and considering the availability of test slots.
IELTS Refund Policy
The refund for your IELTS Exam Reschedule is provided as follows:
- If you reschedule your test more than 5 weeks before the test date, you will receive a refund of the application fee, excluding an administration charge.
- If you reschedule your test within 5 weeks of the test date, you will be charged the full fee unless a serious medical reason is given.
- If you provide a Medical Certificate within 5 days of the test date, you will receive a refund of the application fee, excluding the local administration cost.
