Duolingo English Test Booking: Registration, Cost, Dates

Duolingo English Test is flexible and can be given from anywhere and at any time in the right test conditions. Thus, one does not need to worry about the location of the test centre before booking the exam.
 

You just need to follow the Duolingo English test booking process as follows:
 

• Go to the Duolingo website.
• Click on ‘Sign Up’ and enter the required details. You can also sign-up via your google account.
• Click on continue and fill in basic information on why you are giving this test, which country you intend to study in, and when do you plan to take the test.
• Duolingo will then ask you if you want to purchase 2 tests (@ 100$) or one (@ 59$)

• Next you can choose on how soon you want your results. Same day results (within 12 hours) will cost you 33$ additionally but if you have planned it well and are okay to wait for 2 days then you should choose the free option.

• It will then ask you to fill in your payment details and complete the payment.

You can now take the test anytime within 21 days of your booking. Just log into your account, and when you’re ready, start the test. It's that easy! No need to worry about strict schedules, just find a time that works best for you within those 21 days and go for it.

Unlike the IELTS and the TOEFL, the DET test dates are available throughout the year. Be it a weekend or a holiday, you will always be able to give the DET as per your convenience.

Another interesting fact is that you don't need to go to any test centre to give the Duolingo English Test.

For example, the University of California accepts applications in all intakes, but not all courses are available year-round. Therefore, always verify the admission timeline for your specific course.

Once your goals are clear, you can book the test 2-3 months before the admission deadlines (or as per your preference). This will give you ample time to focus on other aspects of your study abroad journey.

In case you do not score well in the first attempt, then planning and giving the exam in advance will also give you the opportunity to practice more Duolingo questions before retaking it.

Remember, DET scores are valid for two years. Even if there's a delay, you can still use your Duolingo test scores to gain admission to your dream university.

The best part about Duolingo is it is much more affordable than IELTS or TOEFL. It costs just INR 5,020 (59$) for a single test. Plus, if you book two tests together, you'll pay only INR 8,508 ($100) total, which means just INR 4,254 ($50) per test. This makes your wallet easy and gives you flexibility!

Note: Duolingo has increased the fees to 70$ as of Feb 2025 but allows some users to book the exam still at 59$. You should register on the website and check the price it shows for you.

Rescheduling or cancelling your Duolingo test is super easy, and the best part is that there's no fee for rescheduling. However, remember you need to reschedule within 21 days of paying the fee. If you miss this window, you must register and pay the fee again.

Here's a quick process of rescheduling/cancelling the Duolingo test: 
 

• Visit Duolingo's Official Site: Just head over to the Duolingo website to get started.
• Log In as a Registered User: Log in with your username and password.
• Navigate to the Test Cancel Option: Look for and click on the option to cancel or reschedule your test.
• Submit Your Details and Select 'Cancellation': Fill in the necessary details and hit 'Cancellation'.
• Confirm and Log Out: Confirm your cancellation or rescheduling, and then log out.
   

Cancellation won’t cost you anything extra, but keep in mind that you won’t get a refund on the fees you’ve already paid. So, make sure to plan ahead! By staying on top of that 21-day window, you can dodge extra charges and be fully prepared for your test.
