To book IELTS slot, it is recommended to do so much in advance to avoid the last-minute rush. However, the IELTS administration allows you to book IELTS slot 72 hours before the computer-based test is scheduled. But you may not get your preferred location/slot in this case.
Book IELTS Slot: Step-by-Step Process
To book IELTS slot for the computer-based test, the dates are available 3 times a day and 7 days a week, whereas the Paper Test is administered 4 times a month or 48 times a year.
Book IELTS Slot: Online
Step 1: Visit the official IELTS website or the website of the IELTS-affiliated body: IDP India.
Step 2: Select the ‘Register for test’ option and create a profile using your details.
Step 3: After creating a profile, you will be asked to select the exam format (computer-based or paper-based) and the type of exam (IELTS Academic or IELTS General Training).
Step 4: Choose your preferred test centre and exam date.
Step 5: Pay the fees using a card, net banking, or a mobile wallet.
Step 6: You will receive an email confirmation of the payment. Check the details of the test slot that you have booked.

Book IELTS Slot: Rescheduling & Cancellation
If, for any reason, you think you cannot take the IELTS test, it is critical to act fast and reschedule or cancel your test to ensure that your money is not wasted.
Rescheduling the test:
- You can reschedule or book an IELTS slot within 34+ days from the test date without stating any reason.
- To reschedule within 15 days of the exam, you must provide a valid reason and supporting documents (medical transcripts, police report, passport issues, death in the family, etc.).
- If you wish to change your test date or reschedule your IELTS exam, you must raise a request at least 5 weeks before your already booked test date.
- Ensure that you choose a new test date within 3 months of your initial test date. If your preferred test date falls beyond this 3-month window, it will be considered a cancellation rather than a transfer.
Remember: You will have to pay INR 3,300 to reschedule the test date, which can only be done only once.
Cancelling the test:
- You will receive a refund without an administration fee if you cancel your test 5+ weeks from the test date.
- You may not receive any refund if you cancel the test 5 weeks or less from the test date without a valid medical reason.
- Fill out the request for cancellation on the IELTS website to move forward. Remember that a separate cancellation fee will be levied, and refunds will be processed within 8-10 days.
