I recently had an experience when I got bored with others. I felt the need of getting to know new people, to have new experiences in my life. I had stopped socializing for quite some time but I understood the importance of it. So I began socializing with my office colleagues again and found a bunch of people who have the same mindset as mine. I got to have new experiences with them and also learned a lot from them. I got to enjoy and have fun with them in the office hours and I'm glad I interacted with them.

Normally, I am a person who does not get bored pretty easily because I love to engage and converse with people about any topic like psychology, sociology, business, economics, or any other subject. Even though I'm not passionate about it, I still like to talk to people about their hobbies and listen to them and just have a nice little conversation with them. However, I do recall this one instance when I did get bored. It was a few years ago at one of my friend's gatherings. We were all sitting together in a circle and we were conversing about different things like where we plan to go for college, what we would like to do in the future. And I remember this one friend of mine who had chemistry as a subject brought up this very theoretical question related to chemistry and physics, which I do not have as a subject. I remember, I recall not knowing anything about this topic because these are subjects that I'm not really passionate about. And I was, and I got really bored with others because I could not, I was not able to contribute to any of the discussion that they were having. Nonetheless, even though I was not really passionate about it, I still tried to contribute to the topics, but it was a time that I remember being really bored.

When I was a kid, I had a little pencil box which had these four buttons which gave the pencil box an operative use. When you press the button, the box would open up. When you press the second button, a little part of it would slide out. Basically it was just a little electronical and a fun thing to have and I owned it when I was in 6th. One day after break, I was standing and talking there with one of my friends and another friend of mine was running through the hallway and accidentally she pushed my shoulder and my pencil box hit the ground and it broke into multiple pieces to the point that it was not functional anymore.

Answer

It Ends With Us is a book I read recently. It's by the author Colleen Hoare. It's mainly a story about two teenagers, Atlas and Lily, and how they just handle their life going through high school, adolescence, and just domestic violence at home. Both of them come from very, very different families. However, they have one common determining factor between them, which is domestic violence. The abuse that they've seen their moms go through is just insane, and they connect through that on a different level. They're actually in the same high school, but they never speak to each other until Atlas actually crashes into an empty house next to Lily's villa. When Atlas is homeless and he doesn't have anywhere to go, he just comes and breaks into the house next to Lily's, and Lily helps him with all the daily necessities like clothes and food, medicines and stuff. Furthermore, their friendship blossoms into love, but it doesn't really fructify as Atlas has to leave. This book really gave me a lot of knowledge about domestic abuse and how to deal with it.

So, I would like to talk about a recent event which happened on 5th December, 2024. I went to a family wedding at Chhatarpur Farms. The wedding was really well organized and managed by my uncle. However, I got a little bored in the wedding because none of my cousins could come to the wedding. All my cousins are either abroad or they were busy with their exams coming up. One of my favourite cousins who used to always come to the wedding and we used to enjoy and eat a lot at wedding had his CAT exams coming up and all the elderly people were there in the wedding. They were amongst themselves chit-chatting and going through it. I felt really annoyed by the fact that none of my closest cousins, the partner in crime, were not there so that we could have a joyful day. I wanted to have a gala time with the people around me but due to the fact that everyone was busy with their jobs and exams, they could not reach to the moment. I was disheartened and I just went along with my mother and father who were there with me at the time when I was feeling a little monotony in the wedding. However, at the end of the day, I just enjoyed a bit by dancing.

Well, it happened around 5 years back when I was with my couple of college friends. It was initial years of college and they were discussing about football and they were so much deep dived into the conversation that they started discussing technical terms of football and like the dimensions of the field, what type of shots the players should play and how the goal keeping should be done and so yeah it was completely an alien topic for me because I was never interested into football and to be true till today as well I am not so much of a football fanatic to be true like people generally are and for sake of entertainment I can just watch the matches but yeah discussing it at length like what should be the strategy or how the particular player should be playing, who should be the striker, who should be the midfielder, who should be the defender, who should be the goalkeeper and what should be the valid rules, why the player got yellow card or red card so that is something like I am not so much interested or keen to listen about. So the entire conversation of around an hour or so was around these things only of a particular football match which I believed had happened between two clubs and their whole discussion was like the strategies which should have been incorporated by the losing team.

Follow up questions

What do you usually do when you feel bored in a conversation?
When I feel bored in a conversation, I try to change the topic to something I find interesting. If that doesn't work, I might nod along and give short responses while my mind wanders, or I might excuse myself politely if it's appropriate.

How do you think people can avoid boring conversations?
To avoid boring conversations, people can ask open-ended questions that engage others and encourage diverse topics. It's also helpful to gauge the interests of everyone involved and steer the discussion towards common interests to keep it lively and engaging.

Have you ever tried to learn about a topic to join in a conversation?
Yes, there have been times when I've tried to learn about a topic just to participate in conversations. For instance, I once read up on a popular TV show that my friends were discussing, which helped me contribute to the conversation and feel more included.

Band 6-7

Recently, I felt a sense of bored feeling when I am around with my office colleagues. The reason behind my boredom is because of the toxic office culture and the humbugs they spread around the office. Initially, we were very good friends, a group of six members in a team and then gradually it decreased to four and now we are three. All this is because we didn't have a common topic to discuss other than office politics and projects because most of them in the group lacks knowledge about history, politics and also about sports. So I didn't feel a common ground between me and the rest of the team members. So myself, I restricted the frequency of talking with them and even I tried to initiate common grounds but it all went in vain. So whenever I am around my office

Band 6-7

Well, I don't really remember the time when I got bored because I don't get often, I don't really interact with the people if I'm getting bored. But as far as I can remember, there was this one time that I was sitting at my institute and it was late, so not a lot of people were there. And my friends were also gone, but I had to wait for my parents to come pick me up as they were in Delhi. So I was waiting, when I was waiting for him, I was with this one person, which I won't call as a friend, but more of my acquaintance. Additionally, we were talking about things, we were trying to know each other more, he was new to me, so we exchanged information in which level he was and why he was doing Spanish and vice versa, he asked me the same things and why I was waiting there without my friends, what I was doing for them. So we talked about that, then as I got out of topics, I didn't have, I didn't have anything to talk about, so I tried to mould the conversation into an interesting one and I asked about whether he likes travelling or whether he likes books and everything, but I guess the reason why I got bored was he wasn't actually asking me any questions and I don't like a single-sided conversation, it feels like I was taking an interview and I was asking all the questions, whereas he was just giving the answers of the questions and doing nothing else.

Band 6-7

It happened around 3 months ago, I was with my friends on a chilly Saturday night evening we thought of having drinks and enjoy with each other but they brought their girlfriends with them so it made it kind of awkward not having them only but also their girlfriends because I wasn't comfortable with them and then again they were talking about having lunch at Rony's place and all and I was fairly single at that time so I didn't have anybody so I was getting constantly bored because of their conversation I thought we would chill watch some sports and drink the night away but the plan didn't work out according to my thought and I got bored out of it eventually I left the place and booked a cab and went to home straight away.

Band 6-7

So I was in ninth grade when everyone was interested in sports, like football and cricket. But I was interested in science and basketball. I love playing basketball even to this day, even though there isn't a single court, single basketball court in the city. So I spent some time with my friends playing basketball in other cities like Bangalore. Whenever I get a chance to go to Bangalore or Mumbai with my friends, I do enjoy playing basketball a lot. And I'm also really interested in science. So during the time of the festival called Kumbh Mela in my school, people were interested in sports and stuff that was not interesting to me. And seldom did I get bored, but there was a time where indeed I got really bored and really felt miserable. I was really dreadful because I was not interested in stuff that they were interested in. And the girls and boys in the class were even teasing me because I'm not interested in cricket. Cricket is a great sport played in India and people really enjoy cricket no matter where they're from in India. But I don't like cricket at all. I like basketball and science. So one of the reasons why people often get bored is that they tend to feel that everyone should be interested in what they are interested in. But that is not the case because people are different and people should know how to cope with this and should have a variety of interest about different topics, sports.

Band 6-7

So, the one time I felt really bored about with my friends would be the time after my 12th grade when there was a corona period going on after 2020. I was really alone and depressed at that time because there was nobody to talk to and my friends were also ignoring me that time. So I was really demotivated and really low during that time. So it was a phase of my life where my family suffered from corona, where grandmom and dad were severely infected from corona and they were quarantined in my house. None of my friends and relatives spoke to us due to this reason. They used to call us during the day time regarding some of the other issues but they never tackled speaking to me or asking me what I was or what my family was going through. That hampered a lot to us during that phase due to which I had severe panic attacks and other different kinds of mental illness as well. It also came through the way that my studies were affected as there was a lockdown for a brief period of time where my friends were trying to enroll in some online courses but I was doing nothing. So due to the idleness of me and my family not doing well, I felt really bored and ungrateful of the situation that I was in. And cherry on the top, my parents even, my dad had corona so my parents were not even staying together. My mom went to my uncle's house and stayed there for a brief period of time due to which everything was on my head. I was alone. I tried seeking help from my friends. I contacted 2 or 3 of them but all of them backed off at the end moment and I was left all alone. This is because maybe they were not true friends to me or I expected too much from them which resulted in me getting bored or resulted in me getting really affected by whatever the behavior they portrayed towards me. I considered all of my friends really closed and thought that

Band 6-7

I am extrovert so there have been very few times when I have a good mood good and bored however I will remember a time when I want to my cousin's place and got bored it was during the last year winter break I had a free holiday from university so I made plan to visit my cousin who had just come back from his army training his name is Imran and he is 26 year old see see he won't sorry he want to want to join the Bangladesh army ever since he was a child I was I was extremely excited to meet him as we both had not seen each other for the last five years so I went to his place and he started talking about our childhood childhood we got nostalgic thinking about our memories suddenly he got a call from his friend saying they will have a get together he insisted I come along with him to the party I was unwilling but he he pursued me and we both got ready and went to the party

Band 6-7
