When I was a kid, I had a little pencil box which had these four buttons which gave the pencil box an operative use. When you press the button, the box would open up. When you press the second button, a little part of it would slide out. Basically it was just a little electronical and a fun thing to have and I owned it when I was in 6th. One day after break, I was standing and talking there with one of my friends and another friend of mine was running through the hallway and accidentally she pushed my shoulder and my pencil box hit the ground and it broke into multiple pieces to the point that it was not functional anymore.

It Ends With Us is a book I read recently. It's by the author Colleen Hoare. It's mainly a story about two teenagers, Atlas and Lily, and how they just handle their life going through high school, adolescence, and just domestic violence at home. Both of them come from very, very different families. However, they have one common determining factor between them, which is domestic violence. The abuse that they've seen their moms go through is just insane, and they connect through that on a different level. They're actually in the same high school, but they never speak to each other until Atlas actually crashes into an empty house next to Lily's villa. When Atlas is homeless and he doesn't have anywhere to go, he just comes and breaks into the house next to Lily's, and Lily helps him with all the daily necessities like clothes and food, medicines and stuff. Furthermore, their friendship blossoms into love, but it doesn't really fructify as Atlas has to leave. This book really gave me a lot of knowledge about domestic abuse and how to deal with it.

So this person who is trying to protect the environment is none other than my professor Jonathan. I met him during my first years of the bachelor's degree and I think as far as I know he has always tried to protect the environment. In ways like he not only plants the trees, he also makes sure to do proper management for it like the disease and the pest management and also the pruning and thinning management. Moreover, not only he plants trees, he also goes on giving these awareness campaigns on more people to plant trees. He encourages and motivates young students to plant trees. And I think the thing which inspired me the most is he never gives up. Although there is no salary associated with doing this job, as far as I know he is always so keen on helping others understand why environment is so important and how crucial it is for us to protect the environment that is slowly degrading. So he makes awareness campaigns and says that trees are which gave birth to nature and we have to keep the tree breathing so we can breathe. I think that's a great sentence and it should be added into everyone's life mantra and everybody should be inspired and motivated by him to plant more such trees. In addition to it, I have also seen Professor Jonathan making conference calls or setting up seminars for people to understand more about planting trees and also taking care of them with proper management techniques.

I believe the person who protects the environment is my sister contrary to what people think that if you if your mission is to protect the environment you need to have a lot of funds or popularity in your locality or be a celebrity but I don't think that's the case. My sister grows antique plants in my home the species which have been endangered and have been lost to the history books. My sister has somehow miraculously revived them by special methods that she has experimented and developed over the years. She has this unique passion to conserve those endangered species of flowers and fruits and I am awed by it. I don't know how she revived them but it has been done. Furthermore my sister also protests in the streets to stop felling of woods for wood logs and other demands of the country for the nearby park which is my park JP Jay Prakash Narayana Park which is around two kilometers from my home. Moreover my sister hosts webinars and awareness sessions in the city hall public spaces like parks, wellness centers and even gym where the majority of people are men who don't really care about environment. Her pursuit in conserving the environment and protecting it really inspires me and I hope that someday I would do the half of what my sister has done to this community

I think one person who helps to protect the environment who is coming to my mind is Sadhguru. He is an Indian guru and scholar and he basically has done various projects and spearheaded multiple initiatives that revolve around protecting the environment. He launched the Save the Soil movement, which involved him going by a cycle to various countries of the world and educating people about the importance of saving the topsoil because it is essential to save the topsoil in order to protect plants and crops. And apart from that also, he has incorporated sustainability and environmental conservation into every aspect of his daily living. He preaches about sustainability, healthy living, healthy eating, healthy lifestyle and so on and so forth in his foundation, which is Isha Foundation located in the southern state of India. So he has always inspired me because I often listen to his podcasts and his videos that come across, that I come across on YouTube or Instagram and they are really inspiring and they remind us of the importance of inculcating environmental conservation in the little acts. It's about the little things we do every day that count. We don't have to make sustainability a very huge issue or we don't have to practice environmental conservation just for the sake of tokenism, but it has to genuinely stem from a caring and a concern about the environment and about the future generations and how we can incorporate little practices in our everyday life in order to be more responsible citizens and better Samaritans.

So, the person who I have seen who helps protect the environment is my current boss, Akshat Bhatt. Having started his own architectural firm, sustainability is a no-brainer for all of their projects. All of the projects have to be sustainable, somehow contribute to the environment or not affect the environment nearby. For example, while you are constructing or designing a building, our first thought would be how we impact, what the impact the building will have on its nearby surrounding environment. Then the materials we source are to be locally sourced, we try to do as less carbon footprint as possible. Then how the buildings perform, so we look at how efficient the building can be without using natural resources and how it can contribute to protecting the environment. And the last way he works around to protect the environment is by engaging in such programs in the building itself that it contributes to the society overall. So, buildings are spaces which you occupy the most and if you see a building around you that's sustainable, it protects the environment, that is how you also get inspired to protect it.

A person who helps to protect the environment around me is my grandfather. He is the most humble and the most generous person I have ever come across. He is very much sensitive towards environment and he believes giving back to the mother nature because it is the environment who has provided us with everything from water to food and to other resources that we use in our daily life. My grandfather is very much into gardening and he only uses organic manure to plant the trees as well as the saplings. He does not believe in using pesticides and other chemicals that may harm the soil and that may decrease their fertility. He is also very much into kitchen gardening and he plants all the vegetables and leaves at his garden area only and the produce that it gives is just so healthy and so gut friendly that it also keeps him very healthy. I have admired my grandfather ever since I was a kid because I have been seeing him planting trees and plants all around his surroundings and he gives so much to the nature and he is doing so much to the nature which other people are not. He is trying to make a difference and he also promotes other people to get involved into planting more and more trees. He tries to give away small plants and saplings to other people and children as well so that they may as well plant them in front of their houses.

If I were to pick one person who has influenced me the most in the field of environmental conservation, it would be Steve Irwin. Steve Irwin is belovedly called the Crocodile Hunter and I believe he has done more for wildlife preservation in the past 20 years than any other individual. I remember seeing a documentary about his life and his charming personality coupled with how he lived. He was a person who actually practiced what he preached and I respect that. He was able to raise millions of dollars to buy wildlife conservation sanctuaries and every single penny that he raised went into his... It did not benefit his friends or family and he was not corrupt. I feel like that is a lesson that many people who put on a false pretext of conservation these days have to understand and try to follow. I remember seeing a video on social media where he was teasing his son on how to properly handle wildlife and he was able to inculcate that sense of love for the environment within his child at such a small age. Even though Steve Irwin passed away, his son took over his conservation efforts and now manages all of that in Australia and his legacy lives on. I strongly believe that despite his tragic end, he is going to be remembered and he is going to become the face of modern wildlife conservation. He is globally known as a conservation icon and he is a national hero in Australia.

So, here I want to talk about a person who lends their helping hands to save or to protect the environment. It is my friend, her name is Nimi and she takes a lot of actions in order to do, to conduct various activities that saves our environment from pollution. First and foremost, she educates the local people to recycle and reuse plastics. As we know that plastics is the most disastrous pollutant that we find all around our surrounding. Therefore, she conducts various campaigns in order to acknowledge people about the hazards that plastics could create to the soil and it could also reduce the fertility of the soil that we plant our trees or we cultivate and other activities that we do like vegetation and all. They are very inspiring not only just to the elders but also to the youngsters because they keep their jobs or various other opportunities aside and rather than pointing towards their own selfish or self-needs, they are readily helping the society in order to reduce the pollution. Therefore, that is the biggest reason why I have a great revere to that particular person. She also advises others.

I can certainly say that the sanitation workers who look after the sewage treatment and in general sewage maintenance, they are some people who take care of the environment, especially in tropical areas, immensely. Firstly, they take care of day-to-day checks and they make sure that every waste of the entire city is handled, which is not an easy task at all. It's a very complex process which is also definitely underpaid, which is, it is unfortunate, but the work must be done. Recently, in this tropical place I live in, there was a recent agitation and the sanitation workers did not want to continue because they had certain demands. And as they were not being met, we saw a surge in the number of mosquitoes. However, they did come back on duty and we see that the mosquito larvae have reduced and we are directly impacted by the action or inaction by these extremely hard-working folk. I am inspired daily to do something for them, which could be provide meals or a supportive structure, if possible.

    Band 7

I have seen a lot of people that take care of their surroundings by recycling and protecting the environment. But the one I'm going to mention here is my childhood friend who is now contributing heavily towards preserving the diversity of our environment especially by planting the more and more trees. In recent times he has started a really good organization in which he encourages the youngsters to plant a tree daily in order to protect their environment and he addresses all of the effects on the environment that the degradation of trees are having right now. For example, the global warming is really an impressive issue nowadays. Apart from that, the unpredictability of climate has become very hazardous for the remote areas. Like recently in Punjab, the unpredictable weather caused severe rains and now half of the region has been flooded with the heavy amount of water and it has caused a severe damage to the whole vegetation and agricultural land. Apart from that, he always tries to recycle more and more plastic waste that can really cause harm to the environment in order to protect. He has now also contacted with some governmental bodies in order to provide the recycled bins in the specific areas with a lot of garbage in order to inculcate with the prevailing issue of recycling because in my area, many of the people are just throwing away the single-use plastic by using it only once.

    Band 7

Today I would like to talk about one of the people who do a lot to protect the environment. He is a student at our school and I have known him since the day we started school. He is someone who rides a bicycle in the modern era rather than using a car. Moreover, he uses a paper bag to carry his lunch and he always refuses to use plastic bags. He has told us a lot about how hazardous plastic bags are for the environment. Additionally, he always gives us advice on how to manage the amount of water used and how to recycle things. Emphasizing the concepts of 3R, Reduce, Recycle, Reuse, these are the lessons I have learned from him and I feel that he is someone who is not just talking about protecting the environment but is actively doing something to address the problems facing it. Even his small steps can help reduce global warming and I believe he is a valuable source of information for us. Not only for the children but also for the people living nearby. I feel inspired by him and because of his actions, I have started growing plants as much as I can due to the environment issues we face. He has also informed us about the importance of planting trees, explaining that plants provide us with oxygen and a de-oxidized nature, therefore it is essential to grow plants all in all. This is the person who helped to protect the environment.
