When I was a kid, I had a little pencil box which had these four buttons which gave the pencil box an operative use. When you press the button, the box would open up. When you press the second button, a little part of it would slide out. Basically it was just a little electronical and a fun thing to have and I owned it when I was in 6th. One day after break, I was standing and talking there with one of my friends and another friend of mine was running through the hallway and accidentally she pushed my shoulder and my pencil box hit the ground and it broke into multiple pieces to the point that it was not functional anymore.

It Ends With Us is a book I read recently. It's by the author Colleen Hoare. It's mainly a story about two teenagers, Atlas and Lily, and how they just handle their life going through high school, adolescence, and just domestic violence at home. Both of them come from very, very different families. However, they have one common determining factor between them, which is domestic violence. The abuse that they've seen their moms go through is just insane, and they connect through that on a different level. They're actually in the same high school, but they never speak to each other until Atlas actually crashes into an empty house next to Lily's villa. When Atlas is homeless and he doesn't have anywhere to go, he just comes and breaks into the house next to Lily's, and Lily helps him with all the daily necessities like clothes and food, medicines and stuff. Furthermore, their friendship blossoms into love, but it doesn't really fructify as Atlas has to leave. This book really gave me a lot of knowledge about domestic abuse and how to deal with it.

Well, after finishing my work, one activity that I usually do is going for an evening walk in the nearby park. I started this habit a couple of years ago because I wanted to stay active after spending most of my sitting at the desk. Sometimes I do meditations for my refreshments so that I can do my work peacefully.

    Band 7

I have many hobbies, but my favorite of them all is painting. I recently picked up this hobby and it has brought me a great sense of relief and catharsis after a stressful day of work. I have a friend who is also an artist and we spend time by the beach or at a promenade where we can sit and paint whatever is in front of us, whether it is mountains or rivers, trees, lighthouses, it doesn't matter. Whatever it is, we enjoy sitting together in serenity and painting. It brings me a lot of peace and it helps me to think clearly. I like to do this hobby when I finish from work. If my friend and I have planned to go somewhere, we go out and we paint together. If not, I come home and in the serenity of my home, I like to paint. I recently started working with acrylic colors and I find them very enjoyable.

After coming back from work, I love to do drawing. I think it's very therapeutic. And I just sit alone, take up a canvas and draw whatever feels right. In my opinion, a more artistic way of drawing, painting, anything that you want, is just not thinking about it too much and just draw whatever that comes to your mind. Paint it however you like. Use different mediums, get creative, have fun with it. This hobby of mine, it makes me calm and peaceful. And I enjoy doing it. Moreover, I think it's a very good hobby for everyone to take up. And it's easy to learn. I have trained in art, in the different art forms from my childhood. And my parents had forced me to learn. But now I think that they did the correct thing of sending me to art school. And it created a very good base for me. So now whenever I feel like drawing, I don't have to see a video to learn a technique. I can just sit without my phone or any screen and draw from whatever comes to my mind.

Whenever I get time after work, I love to meditate and I love to read religious book and ancient texts. So that is something that I very, I find very inspiring. And also at the same time, it gives me peace. So for that, I generally prefer this evening time, generally around 7 p.m. So I sit down and I try to meditate for a while. I focus on my breath. And after 20 minutes or so, then I open my eyes slowly and then I start reading the religious texts. For example, Ramcharitmanas or Ramayana. So I have, I am very fond of them. And I believe that it guides me to choose the right path. It motivates me to move forward no matter what is there in your life. You can always choose the right path and you can always opt for growth and prosperity. So that is how I found them very inspiring. I also prefer reading books like Bhagavad Gita. It guides me in selecting my path in opting for right people in my life. And it also helps me remove negativity or any kind of thought that can have a harmful impact on my behavior. That makes me calm. So I prefer it on a daily basis and every evening I do it like a clock.

    Band 7

After my work, when I come home, I rest for a few minutes or a few hours. After that, my favourite thing in my leisure time is gardening. I have a terrace garden and there are so many flowers and different kinds of plants. I like to spend time with them, like watering the plants and keep caring of the plants, everything. So I think that is the best time, the best leisure time and I never think about anything during that time. So I spend up to one to two hours in my garden. There is a kitchen garden also, so I collect vegetables for my dinner. And I like to spend more time there because that is the refreshment of my mind. So I don't need any meditation or anything to burst my stress. This gardening and this thing, that means the closeness towards the nature, that helps me to overcome my stressful situations and I come out from my depression and all these things. So that is the best thing that ever happened in my life. And there is nobody to help me in my house, nobody to help me. Everybody is busy in their own life and I don't want anybody to help me during my gardening sessions. So I think that is the best time and I enjoy my coffee on the terrace with these flowers and plants. And I talk to them, they reply them. I can feel that emotions of my plants. So I think that is the best time of my life. I always wait for ending of my duty and I come home.

I do craft work after my work. I take around 30-45 minutes, a lot of times, and do the craft works like decorating my home with the things that I make. Currently, I do not have anyone accompanying me in this activity. I do it on my own. It brings me a lot of energy from the rest of the world and it brings the things that bother me out of my way. So, I take pleasure in doing this work and I hope I do not stop doing this. I somehow find time to make it happen.

    Band 7

So off the top of my head, I think the first thing I do when I get back from school or work is to just relax and listen to my favourite music. I mean, I love to jump to my go-to songs and plug on my earphones, sing along with the songs. That is something that I do often. I am a trained singer. I have been trained in Indian Carnatic music for 12 years. So I love to sing and also I would love to try out different styles of music as well. I often tend to sing along with the songs that I hear just to expand my vocal range, to exercise my vocal cords as well as because I just love to sing. Another favourite pastime of mine is to record myself singing different kinds of songs. I often do it with one of my close friends who also loves to sing. We would sit together, learn the song and then we would try to recreate it with our own voices. So that is one of our bonding things, I would say. So listening to music and singing along with it or recording myself singing is the one thing that I do most often once I get back from home and wish to unwind for the day.

The activity that I do after school is mostly reading novels. I have a passion of reading novels. It's like my hobby. I love to explore different genres, different types of novels. See, I usually come home, rest a bit and then start reading my novels. I read it for about 30 minutes which helps me relax and all my tiredness fades away. I just love doing it. I like to do it alone in my room. I keep a dim light on just by myself with a coffee. I love the feeling of flipping my pages, drinking my coffee and imagining what is happening in the novel. It's like a movie going on in my mind. I really really love and adore it. I don't know how to explain. It's such a surreal feeling. I am alive in this world but I get to feel and experience different worlds as well. I love the characters. I imagine them in every way. I have a funny habit of making stories about them and then I feel like I am interacting with them. It's a funny dream. It's my dream to enter into their world. I am sorry to repeat the word well again and again. The recent novel that I am reading is Once Upon a Love. It's a fantasy novel. It's a romance novel and it's for YA, for young girls. I have read the book in just one day, like 400 pages in one day. It's a very exciting thing to read novels and immerse myself into different worlds. It is something that I will continue to do and it's what usually I do after school. I will continue to do it always and then I go to study after completing it.

    Band 7

Every single day after school, I sit down with my mother on the couch in front of the television and unwind about my day to her. We sit and talk for an hour, during which I tell her about my school and all the things that happened throughout my day. I ask her about how her day was and we discuss about my academics and life overall. That session really helps to clear my mind and it makes me more relaxed after a stressful day at school, so it's really helpful. That time with my mom is where we bond with each other and spend time with each other, which I think is a really important part of my day, for which I'm very grateful. After talking for an hour, we have lunch together where we watch our favourite series and that is another time that I cherish about my day.
