Although there are numerous instances in which I have worked in a group, but the one which left an impression for me would be when I did my dissertation project in ISER Pune. I was employed under two PhD guides working on a project in Neuropathy. The topic was quite tough and it needed a lot of guidance from my seniors and they were kind enough to walk me through all the procedures. Once everything was done, I started working on the project. Through this opportunity, what I learnt the most was the importance of communication and scheduling. Since I was kept under two PhD guides, most of the procedures or most of the work which I had done was overlapping because of the numerous schedule. So once I got used to the procedure, I made a schedule which helped me with my time management and also kept me in loop with both of them and their work.

Follow up questions

What challenges did you face while working in a group?
One of the main challenges was coordinating between two PhD guides, as their expectations sometimes conflicted. Additionally, managing my time effectively was difficult due to overlapping tasks. However, I learned to communicate openly and adapt my schedule to meet both of their needs.

How did you ensure effective communication within the group?
I made it a point to have regular check-ins with both of my guides. I also used shared documents to keep everyone updated on progress. This way, I could clarify any doubts and ensure that everyone was on the same page, which significantly improved our collaboration.

What skills did you develop while working on this project?
I developed strong time management skills by creating a detailed schedule. I also enhanced my communication skills, learning how to articulate my ideas clearly and listen to feedback. Additionally, I gained a deeper understanding of teamwork dynamics and the importance of flexibility.

I've always been a strong believer in teamwork. Ever since I started my professional career with Deloitte USI, I've always been a part of some or the other team, be it a professional accounting team or even the events committee. Every team has a different experience to offer. You tend to learn a lot about your colleagues, the people you work with, and also the people you interact with. Without teamwork, getting anything done is almost impossible, except for people who love doing stuff on their own. But I do think that teamwork is extremely necessary for your own personal growth, as well as the growth of other individuals. It just makes life easier by dividing the work, and it doesn't really end up burdening one with more than what they can handle.

Follow up questions

What challenges have you faced while working in a team?
One of the main challenges I've faced is differing opinions among team members. Sometimes, it can be difficult to reach a consensus, especially when everyone has strong ideas. However, I've learned that open communication and compromise are key to overcoming these challenges.

How do you think teamwork contributes to personal growth?
Teamwork exposes you to diverse perspectives and skills. It helps you develop communication and collaboration skills, which are essential in any career. Additionally, working with others can boost your confidence and teach you how to handle conflicts constructively.

Can you share a specific project where teamwork was crucial?
Certainly! During a major audit project at Deloitte, our team had to collaborate closely to meet tight deadlines. Each member had specific roles, and we relied on each other's strengths. This experience taught me the importance of trust and accountability in achieving our goals.

When I was a kid, I had a little pencil box which had these four buttons which gave the pencil box an operative use. When you press the button, the box would open up. When you press the second button, a little part of it would slide out. Basically it was just a little electronical and a fun thing to have and I owned it when I was in 6th. One day after break, I was standing and talking there with one of my friends and another friend of mine was running through the hallway and accidentally she pushed my shoulder and my pencil box hit the ground and it broke into multiple pieces to the point that it was not functional anymore.

Answer

It Ends With Us is a book I read recently. It's by the author Colleen Hoare. It's mainly a story about two teenagers, Atlas and Lily, and how they just handle their life going through high school, adolescence, and just domestic violence at home. Both of them come from very, very different families. However, they have one common determining factor between them, which is domestic violence. The abuse that they've seen their moms go through is just insane, and they connect through that on a different level. They're actually in the same high school, but they never speak to each other until Atlas actually crashes into an empty house next to Lily's villa. When Atlas is homeless and he doesn't have anywhere to go, he just comes and breaks into the house next to Lily's, and Lily helps him with all the daily necessities like clothes and food, medicines and stuff. Furthermore, their friendship blossoms into love, but it doesn't really fructify as Atlas has to leave. This book really gave me a lot of knowledge about domestic abuse and how to deal with it.

Recently, I have worked in a group for a project to develop an advanced artificial intelligence. Basically this project needs more than 10 people. Basically, if we have more than 5 people, it's more than enough. It was done in the Hyderabad Tech Park, which is basically located in India. I think working in a group boosts your performance on overall scenario. You can get vast amount of ideas, you can know what are your pros and cons, and we can get to know how the situation can get worsened or how the situation can be in our hands. If you have a group, one person knows more about a particular topic, and same as in the same group, another person can't get the information or how the information the other person has. I think by teaming or working in a group, you can exchange more ideas. Ideas in the sense, as we are working in artificial intelligence model, each person has individual ideas. Every idea can't be same. Depending upon how good the idea, we can choose one. If a single person works, we can't get so many ideas. By working in a group, the major advantage is we can have multiple options. If anything goes wrong also, it can be covered as soon as it happens. For a same project, 10 to 15 people work. Due to that, the efficiency of going wrong or the probability of going wrong gradually decreases. By that, our resources will be saved, our time will be saved.

Band 6-7

There are very few circumstances when I worked in a group, however I remember when I was in my university and I wanted to participate in a science exhibition contest, so I have only four members in my team and we needed four more members to be a part of a group to participate in that exhibition contest, so we asked other team, other classmates to join us, after joining us we started planning what should we make for our science exhibition project, so we decided to made a propeller, while my work was to do assessment or analyze everything about that project and other team members have different works, like some of them, two of them have the material collection and two of them have a propeller to be done, however we made it very beautiful and it was working very well, but somehow the propeller was broken and we were so depressed and shocked what should we do, but we had time to replace that propeller, after replacing that propeller it was working very well, however we couldn't, we didn't won the first prize, but we managed to win the third prize.

Working in a team has always been beneficial for me and it is beneficial for others too. I think working in a team can help you with cooperation and it can boost your morale as well if the team is really supporting. Few years back, me and my team had to switch some of the data center's equipment to somewhere else and we had to done cabling and other stuff as well. It was back in 2021 February, actually I was in a night shift and we immediately had to do some shifting of our network. We worked as a four person team including myself and Mr. Gurinder who was the team lead of the operation and apart from that there were two other persons as well whom I really have known well. Their name was Varun and one was Rahul and we all managed to get it done by all the night. We didn't even stop for one or two hours, we continuously worked for almost all the night and we finished our work at 7.30pm.

After graduating I joined my first company where I was designated the role of a data engineer. The team I worked with consisted of a total of six people where I was the youngest. I felt nervous during the initial days of my time in the team but eventually my seniors were kind enough to help me out through the journey and make it a memorable one. I learned how to work on my skills better and also understood the importance of teamwork.

Band 6-7

So teamwork is one of the most important things in any organization. So ever since I've joined my company, which is Vedanta, I'm working as a project manager in digitalization. So starting initially when I joined Vedanta as a fresher from college, there were a lot of issues with teamwork and my CDO was Ms. Nelema ma'am and she supported me a lot and she taught me how a teamwork works and all of that. Later on, Nelema ma'am left and a new deputy CDO came up. His name is Abir and I have a manager and his name is Gyan Shankar Tiwari. There is a lot of imbalance that is happening in my team right now because of lack of teamwork. All the junior employees are feeling a lot of pressurized whereas the senior employees are not doing any kind of work and they are just chilling around. So there is a lot of burden faced by the junior employees and there are times where the junior employees are feeling frustrated and few of them are also having anxiety and panic attacks due to the behavior of seniors. So it is really important to balance the teamwork and to see that the work is being distributed equally. Apart from that, everybody has their own strengths and weakness. Together when an entire team puts up their strength, each and everybody can count into the work and that's how the work can be done in a better way. For example, in my team, while I'm doing a project of fleet optimization, I have excellent communication skills and stakeholder management skills through which I can put up the good communication and execution of the project. So it is really important.

Band 6-7

I pursued my bachelors in French language from Kochi, so we had a program where we had to teach underprivileged students a foreign language and my class as a group we went to a village in Ernakulam and provided the materials necessary for learning a foreign language and we taught them French for a week. We taught them the basics and the benefits of learning a foreign language. I was taken by the experience as it provided me great satisfaction and fulfillment. It really instilled a sense of confidence and empathy inside me when I saw the situation of students from the underprivileged community. So I tried my best to provide them with the support and care they needed to learn a new language and many of them, many of the students told me that they were very happy to learn a new language, at least a new word or maybe to ask how are you in French. So it really filled me with joy and I was happy to know that I could bring a change in the society at least for a day and it really made me to consider teaching as a profession. So it was an astonishing experience for me as it was my first time teaching children and it was a great opportunity for me.
