IELTS, or International English Language Testing System, is a popular English language proficiency test students write to pursue an international degree. IELTS is accepted in almost all universities and colleges in the UK, U.S., Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. IELTS exam is mainly conducted to measure the ability of the test-takers’ communication skills in the four basic English language skills like speaking, listening, reading and writing.
IDP India conducts IELTS exams every year. You can book the test for computer based or paper-based exam. The IELTS exam dates are allocated on a first-come first-serve basis. It’s best to book the test centers and exam dates beforehand to avoid any delay. IELTS exam dates are available up to four times a month making a total of 48 fixed test dates in one year. The IELTS exam dates are available for Academic and General Training module in different dates. The IELTS Academic version is available for all 48 IELTS exam dates and the General Training version is available on 24 dates.
In order to make it convenient for students, the tests are conducted on saturdays and thursdays. While the reading, writing, and listening tests take place on the test date, the speaking test usually takes place a few days before or after.
Earlier both IDP IELTS and British Council used to conduct the IELTS test across India, however, now only IDP IELTS organizes the test. You can either visit their website to book the test or check the IELTS exam dates to select the most convenient date.

Students can appear for the IELTS test as many times as they wish. However, they must register each time with a fee of ₹15,500. One can register for IELTS exams either online or offline. To register in person, you need to go to the nearest IDP IELTS centre and book your slot.

IELTS registration is one of the most crucial steps that must be done accurately. Any error in the registration process can potentially lead to the cancellation of the online application. Here are some important points that students need to remember while registering for IELTS tests:

If you cannot sit for the test on the selected IELTS exam dates, you have the option to cancel the test. A candidate can apply for cancellation only if the test date is at least 15 days from the date on which you are applying for cancellation.
If the IELTS exam dates are between 15-34 days or in case of payment through offline channels, the candidate can make a request for cancellation by providing supporting documents. After cancellation is approved, the refund will be processed within 8-10 business days after deducting administrative charges.
While cancelling the test, if you produce a medical certificate within 5 days of the test date, you’ll receive a refund after deducting the 25% administrative fee.
If you want to reschedule your test date, then you can request a day transfer five weeks before your original test date after deducting your cancellation fee.
Make sure the new test date is within three months of the original test date. For transfer of the test date, candidates need to pay an administrative charge of INR 3,300 inclusive of all taxes.

In case you cannot attend the IELTS Exam due to a medical emergency, you must provide a medical certificate 5 days before your test date to receive a refund (excluding the administrative cost). You will lose the refund if you do not attend the exam without prior notice.
