The IELTS exam offers 48 fixed test dates per year, with exams available up to four times monthly.

These IELTS exam dates are divided between the Academic and General Training modules, with the Academic version available for all 48 test dates and the General Training version offered on 24 dates.

The reading, writing, and listening tests are all conducted on the test date, while the speaking test is typically scheduled a few days before or after the other tests.

Steps to Register for IELTS Exam Dates

Students can appear for the IELTS test as many times as they wish. can register for IELTS exams either online or offline. To register in person, you need to go to the nearest IDP IELTS centre and book your slot.

  • Log in to IDP IELTS official website (​​

  • Select the preferred test – computer-delivered IELTS/ paper-based
  • Book the test type/module – Academic or General Training

How do I Reschedule/Transfer the IELTS Exam Dates?

To reschedule or transfer your IELTS exam dates, follow these steps:

  • Log in to your account on the IELTS IDP India website
  • Select your reason for rescheduling/transfer
  • Upload relevant supporting documents such as a medical certificate, death/cremation certificate or letter from a doctor, police FIR, and passport renewal receipt or receipt from the immigration department
  • Once submitted, check for the acknowledgement
  • Your new date will be confirmed within 3 days. If your request is not accepted, you will be informed via email and SMS
  • Once your request is verified, you will be able to book the test dates and location

Note: You can reschedule your IELTS exam dates only if the test date is at least 15 days from the date you are applying for transfer. For 34 days or more, you can reschedule without stating any reason.

Things to Keep in Mind While Registering for IELTS

IELTS registration is one of the most crucial steps that must be done accurately. Any error in the registration process can potentially lead to the cancellation of the online application.

Valid Passport: 

Students need to upload a scanned copy of their passport while filling out the registration form, and they must also carry the original passport to the test centre on the day of the exam.

Provide Accurate Information: 

Providing accurate and authentic information is crucial while filling out the application form. 

Any discrepancy in the information provided can lead to complications in the future.

Register Early: 

It is recommended to register for the IELTS exam at least three months before the desired test date.

The registration fee for the IELTS exam in India is ₹16,250, and it can be paid through net banking, debit card, or credit card payment during online registration.

Test Cancellation and Refund Policy

If you cannot sit for the test on the selected IELTS exam dates, you have the option to cancel the test. 

A candidate can apply for cancellation only if the test date is at least 15 days from the date on which you are applying for cancellation. 

If the IELTS exam dates are between 15-34 days or in case of payment through offline channels, the candidate can make a request for cancellation by providing supporting documents.

After cancellation is approved, the refund will be processed within 8-10 business days after deducting administrative charges.

Is There An IELTS Test Cancellation Charge?

  • If you cancel the IELTS exam five weeks before the test date, you will receive a refund excluding a 25% administrative fee.
  • If you cancel the IELTS exam within less than five weeks before the test day, you won’t receive a refund.
  • In case you fail to appear for the test, you won’t receive any refund.

Note: While cancelling the test, if you produce a medical certificate within 5 days of the test date, you’ll receive a refund after deducting the 25% administrative fee.

How Much Does It Cost To Reschedule the IELTS Exam?

If you want to reschedule your test date, then you can request a day transfer five weeks before your original test date after deducting your cancellation fee.

Make sure the new test date is within three months of the original test date. For the transfer of the test date, candidates need to pay an administrative charge of INR 3,300 inclusive of all taxes.
