Established in 1915, the Xavier University of Louisiana is the only historically black Catholic University in the USA known for providing education to black students. It is a small university located in New Orleans, in Louisiana and enrolls more than 3300 students. Among these students, around 2,512 are undergraduates pursuing arts and science, 187 are graduate students, and 608 students pursue medicinal courses. This university has provided African American students with immense knowledge and known for being the top producers of African American pharmacists. In addition, international students from around 16 countries are accepted into this university. In 2019, according to the AAMC, the Xavier University of Louisiana was awarded the 1st rank in the nation for allowing African American graduates to complete medical schooling. However, it is a private university that offers not only full time and part-time courses but also offers online courses. The university offers more than 50 programs for the students in the field of public health, pharmacy, counselling, educational leadership, health communications, theology, arts, and science. The tuition fees depend on the course a student chooses. However, the average tuition fee for an undergraduate student is USD 15,751, and for graduates, it is USD 8,250. The Xavier University of Louisiana consists of two main colleges: the College of Pharmacy and the College of Arts & Science. The students of the university are offered scholarships and financial aids. ICSP Scholarship, Indian Trust Fellowship, Clark Global Scholarship Program, Civil Society Leadership Award, Stanford Reliance Dhiru bhai Fellowship for Indian Students are some of the scholarship opportunities provided by the private organizations. What are the requirements for participation?

Students are accepted to Xavier University based on their academic abilities and knowledge. To apply for UG and PG programmes, international students must have completed Grade 12. At the end of the semester, students should achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.5.

The following are the curriculum requirements:

  • Science is required for three years.
  • Mathematics for three years
  • English for four years
  • Social Sciences for three years
  • With the exception of English, two years of language study are required.

The university's minimum entry criteria are as follows:

Admission Process

For undergraduate courses, international students can apply online through the Xavier Application or Common Application by creating an account on Common Application, and for postgraduate courses, they can apply through the university's website. To begin an international application, new candidates must first register with their personal information. Applicants will have access to their university applications at any time and will be able to evaluate and track them online.

Steps to Apply for Undergraduate Admissions

Step 1: Go to www.commonapp.org and fill out the Common App form. The candidate must choose between transfer student, first-year student, education professional, parent, or other adults as his or her status. If you're a first-year student, choose that option. Select 'transfer student' if you're transferring from another college or university, and so on.

Step 2: After that, you must establish an account. The candidate must fill in information such as his or her first and last names, email address, password (which must be retyped), home address, phone number, pin code, and other behavioural questions.
Step 3: The third and final stage is to apply to colleges. The shared app gateway has all of the necessary information.
Step 4: A dashboard, colleges, regular app view, college searches, and financial assistance are all displayed on the site.

Candidates can update or make changes to their Common App account by logging in.

Steps to Apply for a Postgraduate Program

Step 1: Go to admit.xavier.edu/account/register and create an account with the institution.
Step 2: Create a password. For verification purposes, a link will be emailed to your email address. Create an account with your email address and your temporary pin.
Step 3: Submit an application for graduate or postgraduate admission. Complete the form and submit it.

After that, submit the application and await the outcome.


On-Campus Accommodation

On-campus housing is available.

  • Brockman Hall, which houses just under 300 first-year students, has largely double rooms, with a few triples and quads thrown in for good measure.
  • Buenger Hall, which houses little over 200 first-year and sophomore students, has two-, three-, and four-bedroom suites.
  • Husman Hall is a close-knit community for first-year students that consists largely of double rooms, with a few triples and quads thrown in for good measure.
  • Kuhlman Hall, which houses first-year students, consists largely of double rooms with a few triples and quads.

  • The average monthly rent for a one-bedroom apartment is USD 700-800, for a two-bedroom apartment is USD 900-1000, for a three-bedroom apartment is USD 950-1050, and for a four-bedroom apartment is USD 750-850.
  • For students, there are 1-4 bedroom flats available.
  • Wifi, laundry, cable, water, electricity, and other major amenities are available.
