Course Ranking

The California Institute of Technology offers a number of engineering-related courses for those interested. Caltech's engineering programmes are acknowledged by well-known rating agencies. Since 2017, THE (Times Higher Education) has ranked it among the top 10 courses. However, it has fallen from the top spot in 2020 to the seventh spot in 2021. Academic Requirements:

 

Undergraduate:

 

The university accepts admissions from students who have completed the university's approved programme. It contains the following items:

  • Students must obtain an A or B in three courses in IGCSE, AS, and A-Levels
  • International Baccalaureate (IB): Students must achieve an IB exam score of 6 or 7
  • Advanced Placement Courses (AP)
  • Cambridge Pre-University
  • Qualifications in the local education system are comparable to those in the United States


Students must have a solid academic record, particularly in math and science, to be admitted to UG courses, as well as:

  • Completion of a high school curriculum equal to that in the United States
  • Mathematics for four years (including Calculus)
  • Physics for a year
  • Chemistry for a year
  • Three years of English instruction (four years recommended)

 

Aside from that, Caltech expects students to be prepared for the core curriculum, which includes:

  • Students must have taken the most advanced and complicated English classes available
  • Students studying in the United States must have taken at least one course in American history or government. For students studying outside of the United States, it is not compulsory

 

Graduate:

 

For graduate courses, applicants must have a GPA of 3.5 on a scale of 4 to be in the top 5 to 10% of the class. A bachelor's degree or equivalent in a comparable discipline from a tier-1 or tier-2 university or institution, as well as advanced coursework in Math, English, and Science, are necessary. It is essential to highlight that applicants already hold a PhD will not be considered for a second PhD.

 

English Requirements:

 

Admission does not require a minimum score on an English proficiency test. An ESL instructor will examine the overseas applicants' English test scores during orientation. The instructor may recommend that the applicant enrols in an ESL (English as a Second Language) course based on the evaluation. The university accepts the following English tests:

  • DET
  • TOEFL
  • PTE
  • IELTS
  • CAEL

The institute's Career Development Center offers its graduates and alumni specialised career services. Counselling, resume writing seminars and suggestions, pre-health and pre-professional guidance, networking methods, and higher study alternatives are available to students at the centre.
