Who Is Eligible?

The eligibility requirements are clear and must all be met before you can apply. Check every point carefully.

Undergraduate applicants must:

• Hold an offer for an eligible undergraduate degree programme at the University's Newcastle city centre campus for the 2026/27 academic year
• Already have or expect to receive a minimum of ABB at A level or equivalent
• Accept Newcastle University as firm choice with UCAS by 5th June 2026
• Be assessed as international for tuition fee purposes

Postgraduate applicants must:

• Hold an offer for an eligible Master's degree programme at the University's Newcastle city centre campus for the 2026/27 academic year
• Already have or expect to receive the equivalent of an upper second-class UK honours degree or above
• Be assessed as international for tuition fee purposes

For both levels, candidates are assessed on:

Important restriction to know before applying:

Successful applicants cannot be in receipt of a VCES award and an award from any of the following scholarship schemes operated by the university: Vice-Chancellor's International Scholarships, Newcastle University GREAT Scholarships, Elite Sports Scholarships, International Family Discount, Alumni Progression Scholarship, Alumni Progression Discount, Vice-Chancellor's INTO Scholarships, INTO Enhanced Progression Scholarships, Newcastle University Foundation Scholarships, or faculty and school scholarships.

If you hold more than one Newcastle award, you will receive the higher-value one. The lower-value award is reallocated to another student.

The Deadlines:

The VCES runs on a two-deadline system. Submitting your application in the first round ensures a quicker response and allows it to be reviewed before the majority of submissions arrive.

Application deadlines:

• First deadline: 26 February 2026
• Second deadline (undergraduate): 2 April 2026
• Second deadline (postgraduate): 26 May 2026

The first round has passed. But the postgraduate second deadline, May 26, 2026, is still open at the time of writing. If you hold a postgraduate offer from Newcastle and have not yet applied for this scholarship, that is your window, and it is closing.

Newcastle promises to notify you of the outcome within four weeks if you apply before midnight UK time on the first closing date. If you apply after the first but before the second closing date, you'll get your result four to six weeks after the second closing date.

How to Apply: Step by Step

The scholarship application is completely separate from your course application. Applying for your course does not automatically enter you into scholarship consideration.

Step 1: Secure your university offer first

You must already hold a conditional or unconditional offer from Newcastle before you can apply. Apply through UCAS for undergraduate or directly through the Newcastle admissions portal for postgraduate and wait for your offer to come through.

Step 2: Log into the Apply to Newcastle Portal

Applications must be submitted through the university's Apply to Newcastle Portal under the scholarship applications section. Once logged in, navigate to scholarship applications and complete the VCES form.

Step 3: Prepare your supporting materials clearly

Your scholarship application should demonstrate:

• Your full academic record and predicted or confirmed grades
• Why you chose Newcastle and your specific program: This needs to be specific to Newcastle, not a generic answer that could apply anywhere
• Extracurricular activities, projects, research, or work experience that show commitment beyond grades
• A clear sense of your professional or academic direction and why this degree is the right next step
