University of Münster: Key Scholarship and Admission Deadlines Indian Students Need to Know in 2026

What Studying at Münster Actually Costs

Germany does not charge tuition fees at public universities. The only mandatory payment at Münster is a semester fee of approximately EUR 335 (₹37,366) per semester, which covers a public transport ticket valid across Münster and surrounding areas, student services, and university facilities. The semester fee is roughly ₹75,000 per year, not per month.

Scholarship 1: ProTalent, EUR 300 Per Month (Rs. 33,462)

ProTalent is Münster's own recurring scholarship program, funded through alumni donations matched by Germany's state scholarship system. It awards EUR 300 per month (approximately Rs. 33,462) to high-achieving students across all 15 faculties.

Who can apply:

• Currently enrolled students at the University of Münster
• Good to very good academic results in your degree so far, or first-year students whose prior performance suggests strong academic potential
• Social commitment, extracurricular involvement, and personal circumstances are all considered alongside grades

One thing Indian students must check: Some ProTalent subprograms carry German citizenship requirements. Verify your eligibility on the ProTalent website before investing time in the application.

Deadline and timing:

• The 2025-26 window ran from 16 June to 6 July 2025
• The 2026-27 window is expected in May or June 2026, following the same annual pattern 
• Funding year runs 1 October to 30 September
• Applications go through the ProTalent website at protalent.de; check it now and set up a notification if the window has not yet opened

Scholarship 2: Mathematics Münster Visit Scholarship, Up to EUR 850 Per Month (Rs.94,809)

This is for international mathematics master's students who want to spend 2 to 6 months at Münster working on their thesis or a related research project, mentored by a Mathematics Münster researcher. 

What the funding covers:

• Monthly payment of up to EUR 850 (approximately Rs.94,809)
• Semester fees at Münster
• Travel allowance depending on country of origin

Who can apply:

• Mathematics master's students in their second year at any recognised international university
• Must not have spent more than 12 months in Germany in the last 3 years
• English proficiency at B2 level required
• Must remain enrolled as a master's student at your home institution throughout the stay

Deadlines:

• The spring 2026 call closed on May 15, 2026
• The next deadline is November 15, 2026; this is the cycle to target now

Scholarship 3: Mathematics Münster Study Abroad Scholarship, EUR 500 to EUR 850 Per Month

This is the outbound version, for students already enrolled in the MSc Mathematics program at Münster who want to do a semester at another university globally, including in India. 

What the funding covers:

• Monthly top-up of EUR 500 to EUR 850 (approximately Rs. 55,770 to Rs. 94,809) on top of any existing support
• A lump sum toward travel costs
• Tuition fees at the host institution, if they cannot be waived

Who can apply:

• Must be enrolled in the MSc Mathematics programme at Münster
• Must have completed at least one year of the programme, but must not have finished the master's thesis
• Must return to Münster to complete the degree after the stay
• A parallel application to PROMOS or a similar program is mandatory. If no such option exists for your destination country, a written justification is accepted

Deadlines:

• Spring 2026 deadline: May 15, 2026 , now passed
• Next deadline: November 15, 2026

Scholarship 4: Graduation Scholarship, Up to EUR 1,500 (Rs.1,67,310)

A one-time grant for international students in their final phase of study at Münster who need financial support to complete their degree. Open to master's and doctoral students. 

What it covers:

• Up to EUR 1,500 (approximately Rs. 1,67,310), paid as a one-time grant
• For students writing their final thesis in Germany

Who can apply:

• International students enrolled at Münster in any programme
• Expected to graduate within the next 12 months at the time of application
• Financial need is assessed alongside academic standing

Deadline:

• The 2026 call ran from 1 to 28 February 2026 and is now closed
• The 2027 call will open in February 2027; set a reminder for January 2027 

Admission Deadlines for Students Not Yet Enrolled

• Non-restricted master's programmes: apply by 15 July 2026
• Restricted-admission master's programmes: apply by 15 July 2026, with some extending to 15 September 2026
• Master of Business Development: apply by 5 June 2026 for early admission notification, or by the final deadline of 15 July 2026

Summer Semester 2027 (March 2027 start):

• Master's programmes: apply from November 2026, deadline 15 January 2027
• Some programmes extend to 15 March 2027

A Few Things to Know Before You Apply

1. Language is the deciding factor. Most master's programs at Münster are taught in German. English-taught options exist primarily in mathematics, business, economics, and selected sciences. German-medium programs require DSH-2 certification or equivalent. 

2. English proficiency certificates accepted: IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, TELC, and UNIcert. Requirements vary by program.

3. Look beyond Münster's own scholarships. Indian students enrolled at Münster can also apply for DAAD bilateral scholarships, including DFG-ICSSR joint research grants for social science students and IGSTC research fellowships for STEM students. These run as separate applications and are worth pursuing in parallel.
