Imperial College London India Future Leaders Scholarship 2026: 10,000 GBP for Indian Master's Students

Imperial College London India Future Leaders Scholarship 2026: 10,000 GBP for Indian Master's Students

There is a scholarship at one of the world's top two universities that gives Indian postgraduate students approximately Rs.12.75 lakh off their tuition fees and does not require a single scholarship form to be considered for it.

Not a typo. Not a catch.

As Imperial puts it, the scholarship is designed to give outstanding Indian graduates "the skills and expertise they need to take the next step in their personal and professional journey." Whether they have a plan to change the world, an exciting innovation to develop, or are ready for the next step on the career ladder, this prestigious master's scholarship offers the best possible start.

Here is everything you need to know.

Currency note: 1 GBP = Rs.127.53 as of April 28, 2026. Always verify the current rate before making any financial decisions.

What This Scholarship is about

The India Future Leaders Scholarship is Imperial's largest-ever direct financial investment in Indian students, running across all four faculties: Engineering, Natural Sciences, Medicine, and the Business School. It supports 30 Indian Master's students over three years, with equal numbers of men and women. The program was launched in November 2023 following a visit by India's minister of science and technology and announced at an event at the British Council in New Delhi.

What the Scholarship Covers

  • Award value: 10,000 GBP towards tuition fees, approximately Rs.12.75 lakh at 1 GBP = Rs.127.53 (April 28, 2026)
  • How it is applied: Directly as a tuition fee reduction, not a stipend or living allowance
  • Duration: One-time award for the one-year program. Not renewable
  • Deferral: Not permitted. The award is for students starting Autumn 2026-27 only

To put this in context: Imperial's international postgraduate tuition typically runs from approximately £39,900 to £55,000+ per year. A £10,000 reduction is roughly 18–25 percent off your total fee.

Who Can Apply: The Full Checklist

Nationality and domicile:

  • Must be an Indian domicile, available to start studies by September or October 2026, and must have applied to and received an offer from Imperial by April 6, 2026, for a one-year full-time MSc or MRes in the Faculty of Engineering, Natural Sciences, Medicine, or Imperial Business School
  • "Indian domicile" means habitually resident in India, not simply an Indian passport holder living abroad

Programs that qualify:

  • One-year full-time MSc or MRes programs in Engineering, Natural Sciences, Medicine, or Imperial Business School
  • MBA, online, and distance learning courses are not eligible under this scholarship
  • Dual degree programs with other institutions are also excluded

English language:

  • Must fulfill Imperial's English language entry requirements by June 30, 2026. Pre-sessional English courses are not supported under this scholarship
  • If your IELTS or equivalent is not yet confirmed, arrange this immediately. Missing the June 30 deadline means losing the award even if you were nominated

Continuing students:

  • This scholarship is not available to continuing students; only new entrants to Imperial in 2026-27 are eligible

How the Application Works

There is no separate application. Each faculty automatically nominates its highest-ranked eligible Indian applicants who hold an offer by April 6. Each faculty nominates three awards in total, with one specifically reserved for the business school. You are notified by email; if you hear nothing by June 30, assume you were not selected.

Here is exactly what happens:

  • You apply for your chosen MSc or MRes at Imperial through the standard admissions process
  • You receive an offer of admission by April 6, 2026
  • Your faculty automatically identifies all eligible Indian-domiciled students with confirmed offers
  • The faculty nominates its highest-ranked eligible candidates for the award
  • Each faculty nominates a total of three awards, with one award specifically reserved for the Imperial College Business School
  • You are informed of the outcome by email

The only action required from you is getting the offer. Everything else is handled by the university.

Key Dates

  • Offer deadline: April 6, 2026; your admission offer must be confirmed by this date
  • Result notification: Successful applicants will be notified by email no later than June 30, 2026. If you do not receive communication by this date, assume your application was unsuccessful
  • English language deadline: June 30, 2026; all language requirements must be confirmed by this date
  • Course start: September or October 2026

For 2027 entry: The program continues. Watch imperial.ac.uk/study/fees-and-funding/scholarships-search for the updated offer deadline, expected in early April 2027.

The One Thing That Actually Determines Your Outcome

Since there is no separate scholarship application, the nomination goes to each faculty's highest-ranked eligible Indian applicants.

Your undergraduate results, research experience, personal statement, and the overall strength of your application are what position you above other candidates.

The scholarship and admission selections are effectively the same process; work that goes into your degree application directly improves your scholarship chances.
