Oxford, Cambridge and Edinburgh sit outside London, so UKVI expects lower living funds for them than for Imperial and UCL.

Imperial is the highest-ranked UK university in QS 2027 and teaches only science, engineering, medicine and business, so it is among the top ranking universities in UK for masters for technical fields. The Department of Computing runs MSc Computing, MSc Advanced Computing and an AI and machine learning MSc, and Imperial Business School runs MSc Business Analytics. Entry is selective: the MSc Computing page asks for a first-class degree. As a London university, it falls under the higher UKVI living-funds rate.

Counselor insight: Apply to Imperial when your target role is specific, such as machine learning engineer or quantitative analyst. At this fee, a vague plan costs more than a well-chosen shortlist.

Oxford's taught masters are compact and research-led. Computer science applicants look at the MSc in Computer Science and the MSc in Advanced Computer Science, and the Oxford Internet Institute runs the MSc in Social Data Science. Deadlines listed by Oxford departments for 2027-28 entry include 2 December 2026 and 26 January 2027, and Oxford says most scholarships need a December or January application. Cambridge offers one-year MPhil and MSc routes, including the MPhil in Advanced Computer Science and the MPhil in Finance at Cambridge Judge Business School. Cambridge does not publish a comparable university-wide offer rate for taught masters that we could verify, so treat any single percentage you see online with caution. Counselor insight: Cambridge works best as a serious application, not a hopeful one. Apply when you can point to a research topic and a course that fits it.

UCL is the broadest of the London options. Applicants look at MSc Computer Science, MSc Data Science and programmes in economics, education and architecture. UCL's India page asks for a first-class or high second-class degree, with a minimum of 6.5 to 8.5 out of 10, or 55% to 70%, depending on your institution and grading scale. Overseas offer holders pay a fee deposit of 10% of the first-year fee.

Edinburgh's School of Informatics runs MSc Data Science and MSc Artificial Intelligence, which makes it a frequent pick for data science shortlists. QS credits Edinburgh with strong scores for international research network and sustainability. It sits outside London, so the UKVI living-funds rate is the lower one.

Counselor insight: For data science or AI on a tighter budget, compare Edinburgh with a London option on total cost, not tuition alone.

Overall rank is a weak guide for a one-year course. Match the subject first, then check the university.

The Immigration Health Surcharge is £776 per year for students, and a part-year of six months or less is charged at half, so a visa of about 16 months comes to £1,164.
