University of Greenwich Automatic Scholarships 2026: What Indian Students Must Know
The University of Greenwich runs two flagship scholarships that require no separate application, no essays, and no panel decision. You apply for your course, meet the deadline, pay your deposit through Flywire, and the scholarship is automatically awarded. Here is everything Indian students need to know before the next cycle.
Why the University of Greenwich Is Worth Your Attention
The University of Greenwich has over 25,000 students from 130 countries across campuses in London and Medway, including its iconic Greenwich campus at the Old Royal Naval College. Around 30 percent of its student body is international, which means excellent support infrastructure for students arriving from India.
The university offers three intakes every year: January, April, and September. September is the primary intake with the widest course selection. January and April carry a smaller range but are genuine options for students who missed the September window.
The Two Automatic Scholarships
Greenwich runs two flagship automatic scholarships for international students. Both are applied as tuition fee discounts, meaning they reduce what you owe rather than arriving as a bank transfer. Here is exactly what each one covers.
Scholarship 1: Early Applicant Undergraduate Scholarship: Up to GBP7,000
This is an automatic award of GBP 7,000 for new international undergraduates split across three years of study.
The discount breakdown:
- Year 1: GBP 3,500 off tuition (approximately Rs.4.37 lakh)
- Year 2: GBP 2,000 off tuition (approximately Rs.2.50 lakh)
- Year 3: GBP 1,500 off tuition (approximately Rs.1.87 lakh)
(Currency note: INR conversions are at GBP 1 = Rs.125, as of April 8, 2026.)
Who qualifies:
- Self-funded international fee-payers joining the university for the first time on one of its UK campuses in September 2026
- EU nationals are not eligible for this award
- Chinese nationals are not eligible for this award
- Sponsored students are not eligible
- Must not be receiving any other University of Greenwich scholarship or bursary
The most common mistake: paying the deposit outside of Flywire. The university only requires payment through the Flywire platform.
This rule is non-negotiable. The university is explicit about it on every scholarship page. It does not matter if your amount is correct or your timing is right. Pay through any other platform and you lose the scholarship entirely.
Scholarship 2: Early Applicant Postgraduate Scholarship: GBP 3,500
The Early Applicant Postgraduate Scholarship offers a tuition fee discount of GBP 3,500 (approximately Rs. 4.36 lakh), applied automatically to.
Who qualifies:
- Self-funded international fee-paying students
- Applying for a full-time postgraduate taught course for September 2026
- Students on MRes, PhD, or MPhil courses are not eligible
- Students on partner courses including UGIC, are not eligible
- Cannot be combined with any other University of Greenwich scholarship or bursary
How it works: No separate application is required. The university will automatically award the scholarship if you meet all the eligibility criteria and deadlines.
The Deadline Picture: What Has Passed, What Is Still Open
April 2026 Intake: The Honest Warning
If you are planning to join Greenwich in April 2026, you need to know this upfront.
The International Scholarship Award is non-deferrable and cannot be transferred to a later intake, including but not limited to April 2026 or intake 2026/27.
The automatic scholarships described above are tied specifically to the September intake. Students joining in April 2026 are not eligible for the Early Applicant Scholarship awards. The International Scholarship Award window for January and April intakes has also now closed.
If you are joining in April 2026: Contact the university directly at intscholarships@gre.ac.uk to understand what financial support, if any, is available in this cycle.
September 2026 Intake: Where Things Stand Right Now
Here is the full deadline table for September 2026:
Scholarship | Application Deadline | Status | Deposit Deadline |
| Early Applicant UG (via UCAS) | 14 January 2026 | Passed | 3 June 2026 |
| Early Applicant UG (direct or agent) | 27 March 2026 | Passed | 1 May 2026 |
| Early Applicant PG (direct or agent) | 27 March 2026 | Passed | 1 May 2026 |
The March 27 application deadline has now passed for students targeting September 2026.
However, one important date is still open:
Students applying to courses that require interviews will still receive the full 28-day decision period after their offer is issued, provided the application was submitted by 27 March 2026.
This means if you applied before March 27 and are still waiting for your offer, you have 28 days from the date your offer arrives to accept it and pay your deposit. The May 1 deadline applies to students who already have their offer in hand.
If you applied before March 27: Check your offer status immediately. Pay your GBP 3,000 deposit via Flywire before May 1, 2026, to secure the automatic scholarship.
Planning for September 2027: Your Full Runway Starts Now
If you missed September 2026, the 2027 cycle gives you ample time to plan. Based on the 2026 pattern, here is what to expect:
Expected September 2027 Timeline:
Step | Expected Window |
| UCAS application deadline | Mid-January 2027 |
| Direct or agent application deadline | Late March 2027 |
| Deposit deadline (via Flywire only) | Early May 2027 |
| Course start | September 2027 |
What to do right now if you are targeting September 2027:
- Research your course now, not in January. The scholarship is automatic, but it only triggers if you apply by the deadline. Missing the deadline by even one day disqualifies the award.
- Decide your application route early. If applying via UCAS, the January deadline comes faster than most students expect. If applying directly or through an agent, you have until March, but do not treat that as a reason to wait.
- Prepare your GBP 3,000 deposit in advance. The deposit must be paid via Flywire and must have cleared into the university's bank account by the deadline. Sending money the day before and hoping it clears is a risk not worth taking.
- Do not combine scholarships. This scholarship cannot be combined with any other scholarship award or bursary from the University of Greenwich. If you apply for and receive a different award first, you lose access to the automatic scholarship.
Other Financial Support Available at Greenwich
Beyond the two automatic Early Applicant scholarships, Greenwich offers additional awards worth knowing about.
International Scholarship Award: Up to GBP 2,500: Available to international students from India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nigeria, and Ghana who hold an offer for the January 2026 intake. A September 2026 round has not yet been announced, so keep an eye on the scholarship page.
Regional Scholarship Award: GBP 2,500: Currently available for the January 2026 intake only, for students domiciled in the Americas, MENA, East Asia, Central Asia, East Africa, and Europe (excluding the EU). This award is automatic; no separate application is needed. A September 2026 version has not yet been confirmed.
Note: This scholarship is only applicable for one year of an undergraduate degree.
The One Rule That Catches Students Out Every Year
It is worth repeating because this single mistake costs students their scholarship more often than any other.
Deposit payments need to be made through the official University of Greenwich Flywire platform only and must have cleared into the university's bank account by the relevant deposit payment deadline. Deposit payments made outside of this platform are not eligible.
The amount and timing can both be correct. But if you pay through your bank directly, through a different transfer service, or through any platform that is not Flywire, the scholarship is forfeited. No exceptions.
Always pay through Flywire. Always confirm the payment has cleared, not just been sent.
Thinking About Greenwich for 2026 or 2027?
Whether you are checking if the May 1 deposit window still applies to you or building a proper plan for September 2027 from scratch, getting the strategy right from the start is what separates students who land automatic scholarships from students who just miss them.
