How to Apply: Step by Step
- Program first, scholarship second. Every Heidelberg scholarship requires existing enrollment or a concurrent program application. You cannot apply for the scholarship independently.
- Apply to your program at https://www.uni-heidelberg.de/en/study/application-enrolment. Indian students must obtain an APS Certificate from the German Embassy in New Delhi (apsindo.com) before applying. Processing takes 4–8 weeks. Do not begin your Heidelberg application without this.
- Match the scholarship to your level and subject: Amirana for Medicine, DAAD for MScIH, Hans-Peter Wild for MINT, Deutschlandstipendium for any enrolled student.
- Prepare your documents:
- Academic transcripts from all institutions
- Statement of purpose or motivation letter
- Two letters of recommendation
- Research proposal (PhD and some master's programs)
- Language proof: IELTS 6.5 for English-medium programs, TestDaF or DSH for German-medium
- CV
- Submit before the program deadline: For UG programs: July 15, 2026. For MScIH DAAD track: October 15, 2026. All others: check the official scholarship page directly.
The Mistake That Costs Most Applicants
Students apply for the scholarship before confirming whether it is available for their specific program. Heidelberg's scholarships are program-specific. Start with your program application. Then identify the scholarship that fits your level and subject area. Doing it the other way around wastes preparation time on an award you may not be eligible for.
