Chevening in India: Your Chance to Study in the UK for Free
The Chevening Scholarship is among the most respected and highly coveted awards worldwide, giving aspiring leaders the chance to study in the UK.
Applications are now open for the 2026–2027 intake, and you have until 7 October 2025 at noon (UTC) to apply. If you’ve been waiting for a big break to study abroad without breaking the bank, this is it.
So, what exactly is Chevening?
Chevening is not your average scholarship. It’s the UK government’s international scholarships programme, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and a few partner organisations. Every year, it selects future leaders from all over the world and gives them the chance to study in the UK with everything covered.
What’s included?
- university tuition fees
- a monthly stipend
- travel costs to and from the UK
- an arrival allowance
- a homeward departure allowance
- the cost of one visa application
- a travel grant to attend Chevening events in the UK
From the moment you land, you can focus on your studies and experiences instead of worrying about money.
Who can apply?
You’ll need to meet Chevening’s eligibility requirements, which include having a solid academic background, leadership qualities, and a clear plan for how you’ll use your experience to make a difference once you return home.
- be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory.
- Commit to returning to your home country for at least two years after your scholarship ends.
- Have at least two years of work experience (2,800 hours).
- Hold an undergraduate degree
- Apply to three different and eligible UK university courses. You must have received an unconditional offer from at least one of these course choices by the references and education documents deadline listed on the application timeline.
How to apply?
All applications are submitted online. Here’s the short version:
- Go to the official Chevening website and start your application
- Apply to any three universities covered by the Chevening Scholarship
- Have a valid email address and phone number ready
- Make a note of your unique access code
- Keep an eye on the official timeline so you don’t miss any deadlines
- Take your time to craft thoughtful, well-structured answers
- Upload the required documents
- You must provide two names as referees while applying for Chevening scholarships
If your application is shortlisted, you will be invited to an in-person interview with the nearest British embassy representative.
Why is it worth it?
This is more than a scholarship. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to live, study, and grow in one of the world’s most dynamic countries. You’ll gain a world-class education, form friendships and professional relationships that will last a lifetime, and come back with the skills and confidence to lead change.
If you’ve ever dreamed of studying in the UK but thought it was out of reach, Chevening could be the door that opens for you. The only question is whether you’ll step through it.
