Recently we had a seminar conducted in our college about a scientific paper called Mitochondria. I was given the task of telling a vote of thanks at the end of the seminar. I have always been scared of public speaking and talking on the stage because of the judgmental and fearful looks of the people sitting down and it was always hard for me to have eye contact with the audience. So I never wanted to participate in this but my teacher insisted me to take up the role and participate because it actually improves your confidence. So I was trained by my teacher who helped me speak and improve my communication skills after which I have actually felt very confident and very happy to speak fluently and correctly in front of 100 people right there and my communication skills have also increased due to which I am even considering my fund as doing an MC in upcoming events. This led to improvement in my vocabulary and grammatical errors too because when you start speaking in front of many people, you start improving your language and try to make it better. I felt very grateful for my teacher because if not for her I wouldn't have learned the language very well and I wouldn't get past my fear of speaking publicly.

Follow up questions

What techniques did your teacher use to help you improve your public speaking skills?
My teacher used various techniques such as practicing in front of a mirror, recording my speeches, and providing constructive feedback. She also encouraged me to visualize the audience as supportive rather than judgmental, which helped reduce my anxiety.

How has overcoming your fear of public speaking impacted other areas of your life?
Overcoming my fear has boosted my confidence not just in public speaking but also in group discussions and presentations. I find it easier to express my ideas and participate actively in class, which has improved my overall academic performance.

Do you think public speaking is an essential skill in today's world? Why?
Yes, I believe public speaking is crucial today as it enhances communication skills and helps in networking. In professional settings, being able to present ideas clearly can lead to better job opportunities and career advancement.

When I was a kid, I had a little pencil box which had these four buttons which gave the pencil box an operative use. When you press the button, the box would open up. When you press the second button, a little part of it would slide out. Basically it was just a little electronical and a fun thing to have and I owned it when I was in 6th. One day after break, I was standing and talking there with one of my friends and another friend of mine was running through the hallway and accidentally she pushed my shoulder and my pencil box hit the ground and it broke into multiple pieces to the point that it was not functional anymore.

Answer

It Ends With Us is a book I read recently. It's by the author Colleen Hoare. It's mainly a story about two teenagers, Atlas and Lily, and how they just handle their life going through high school, adolescence, and just domestic violence at home. Both of them come from very, very different families. However, they have one common determining factor between them, which is domestic violence. The abuse that they've seen their moms go through is just insane, and they connect through that on a different level. They're actually in the same high school, but they never speak to each other until Atlas actually crashes into an empty house next to Lily's villa. When Atlas is homeless and he doesn't have anywhere to go, he just comes and breaks into the house next to Lily's, and Lily helps him with all the daily necessities like clothes and food, medicines and stuff. Furthermore, their friendship blossoms into love, but it doesn't really fructify as Atlas has to leave. This book really gave me a lot of knowledge about domestic abuse and how to deal with it.

The most difficult skill that was for me to learn was learning data structures and algorithms. Data structure and algorithms is a very important concept in the field of computer science, where they use these concepts to understand how a person is good in solving complex problems by effectively managing and dealing with data. So the skill is based on the concept of problem solving. As a kid, I have always struggled with the ability to problem solve since childhood. So this was a very big challenging task for me. I had to learn this because I wanted to get into the field of computer science very bad and this was one of the metrics they used and I had to accept it and just learn as much as I could. It took me around three years to finally get a grasp on the concept of data structures and algorithms. And when I applied for internships, they asked these questions very rigidly. At first, I struggled in some rounds. After multiple attempts, I finally succeeded and got an internship at a company called Datapoint Solutions. How do I feel about DSA? It's kind of a love-hate relationship, honestly. I do not like problem solving, but it's a requirement in every company. I had to do it regardless so I can achieve my goal of becoming a software engineer.

Band 6-7

The hardest skill I have learned is the travella from football and it is one of the most important skills to learn and also to become a professional footballer it is one of the major assets and travella is a beautiful pass to the other player and I feel travella is one of the most important skills in football and I am a big football fan so I found it very hard during my playing days and after I got to know a few techniques I realized that more practice was needed and that's when I realized I had to do more practice and once when I was thorough with it I could go well and I'm glad that I know the travella completely and I can also explain it to others this is a wonderful skill to learn and it has also been my toughest skill as well

Band 6-7

One of the most difficult skills to learn was programming and I learned it in my school where they taught me from grade 6 to 12. I've been learning Python, I've been learning C, all of which are very useful in my career right now and I've been very thankful to the teachers, my school and everyone who has contributed to my learning progress in my life. I really am in a position where I use most of the time programming. I am a software engineer, so this is one of the most incomprehensible skills which I need currently in my daily life, so this is a very difficult skill when I was learning it. I didn't have exactly the talent to learn it. I did put my hard work in, especially when I was in 10th. I had to write an exam where it was just programming and it was quite hard. It was one of my turning points where I sat down through several nights just to learn programming and not any other subject and I was really trying to get as much as possible in my marks and I did. I feel average, so that's good.

Band 6-7

For me the most difficult skill to learn was dancing. I was a very stiff person in my childhood very stiff body did not have flexible joints so dancing was a big no for me and but I used to love dancing I used to watch people who used to dance well and I used to think oh my god they're so cool wish I could dance like them but it seemed impossible to me especially with that stiff body but as I loved dancing I thought let's get into the practice of dance I started practicing and practicing loving this thing until it came naturally to me and now I am at professional level in dancing I mean I am at advanced level so initially it was very difficult for me to learn but now I feel that I have surpassed my expectations and I dance really better dancing was difficult because it needs a whole lot of things it needs confidence it needs musicality it needs rhythm you have should have a sense of rhythm it needs confidence it needs self-belief strong self-belief and through this process of learning dancing I acquired all the skills dancing taught me the most important life skills and that's why it is very difficult to learn if you're not naturally blessed with it I was not naturally blessed with dancing at all I was a one who could not even clap properly walk properly now I dance with the pro dancers along with the pro dancers so I think dance was initially the most difficult skill for me to learn now I am very comfortable with it yes

Band 6-7

I feel presentation skill isn't a complicated skill. According to me, it is very complicated and you need to be very efficient and confident to be perfect at that skill. I faced the problem during my engineering seminars. I was unable to present due to lack of my communication. Then I started working upon it. Presentation skill depends upon the communication. Your communication is very important. It plays a major role. Moreover gestures are also plays the major role. Not only communication, there are body languages and other behavior acts and your actions and your hand movements and your gestures plays a major role. So you need to always carry forward all these things whenever you are trying to communicate. Communication is a key role in the society for everything. So presentation skill and communication skill, those are the skills which help you through many things, making many things easier and possible to achieve anything. I think I got a better improvement and I'm performing very good now compared to the past and I need to improve more myself and I need to be more confident. So skill of communication is the key how you develop your circle and improve your performances.

When I was like 14 or 15, I tried to learn Kathak, which is an Indian dance form. At that point, I was not at all aware of that dance form, but I was in school, I think I'm in 9th or 10th. I have a female dance teacher, she used to teach us Kathak. Initially, I was good at it, but later she started correcting my posture, which is not at great. My body is pretty tough, and in Kathak, your body needs to be a little softer and calmer. She used to tell me that I was wrong. At that point, I didn't realize where I was doing wrong, but she used to record me in their phone, and then she showed me, see, this is how your posture is wrong. And then I look at it, and then I understand, okay, this is how I was wrong. How I was thinking about that now, I think Kathak is a really beautiful dance form. I really admire people who do it really well, because I know how hard it was, so I can understand how much they practice for their form to be that corrected. Although, I really like how makeup they done while doing Kathak, and beautiful dress, especially that saree. I don't know, they were Kanji or something like that, but I really like the saree as well. The jhoola and everything, everything is so fascinating. I really like Indian culture, to be really honest. That's why I start learning Kathak, although I'm not really good at it. I still remember a few steps, you know, when I was learning that dance form. And I still admire that dance form. I learn different dance forms as well, and I really believe that dancing is one of the difficult things you can do, especially, I'm a gym person, so I used to do gym a lot. So that's how my body become a little stiff. But when you do a dance form, your body needs to be a little calmer and softer. Your moves need to be really soft, and my body is not like that.

Band 6-7

Yes, skill which I felt really difficult was learning my dentistry, like orthodontics. So there will be lot of wire bending and different kinds of wire manipulation things will be there, which I felt very difficult among our dental procedures. So I tried a lot of things by asking seniors help and colleagues help and my professors help everyone. But it felt very difficult for me to achieve that task. At last I achieved at least 70% because of my continuous work on it and learned some techniques on my own by repeatedly doing. I got some new strategies on by my own. So it helped me a lot and now I am feeling very proud of myself because I thought it will be not possible for me. It is impossible like doing, this is like a dream. So my dream came fulfilled because of this. So I have to work on it further also to achieve 100% because this is very essential for me in my career path. There are lot of skills like cementations, tooth preparations and all. So among this, this also plays a crucial role of deciding our capability of doing proper treatment and getting positive feedbacks from the patients. So it means a lot actually.
