Well, it was a time when I was pursuing my 8th class in Khalsa Public Senior Secondary School where I met a person named Prakash Singh who was my music teacher and after giving my introduction to him, he showed me some music instruments not only to me but also to my other classmates who were interested in this subject. And I find playing tabla very interesting because being a person with artistic endeavour, I love myself expressing artistically. So that's why I found an interest in playing tabla. It was a quite difficult skill that I acquired in 4 years as I got trained from a tabla professional. So I can say this skill was quite difficult to learn because in this skill you need to show the dexterity of your fingers. Over the next 4 years, I learned consistently from that professional. Not only I participated in school events but also during the public events like there are Kirtan Diwan in local Gurdwara Sahibs and also on the bigger levels where competitions are organized among the various schools. I participated all over there and won prizes which made me feel a sense of fulfilment. I felt very proud of myself that I excelled at this skill. Moreover, my homies appreciated me when I was learning this skill because one thing that happened to me that I come connected to the beliefs of Sikhism religion. Before that, I had a haircut but then after that, I grew up my hairs and become Sardar and started tying turban on my head which gave me a different identity than others. When I was a kid, I had a little pencil box which had these four buttons which gave the pencil box an operative use. When you press the button, the box would open up. When you press the second button, a little part of it would slide out. Basically it was just a little electronical and a fun thing to have and I owned it when I was in 6th. One day after break, I was standing and talking there with one of my friends and another friend of mine was running through the hallway and accidentally she pushed my shoulder and my pencil box hit the ground and it broke into multiple pieces to the point that it was not functional anymore.

Answer

It Ends With Us is a book I read recently. It's by the author Colleen Hoare. It's mainly a story about two teenagers, Atlas and Lily, and how they just handle their life going through high school, adolescence, and just domestic violence at home. Both of them come from very, very different families. However, they have one common determining factor between them, which is domestic violence. The abuse that they've seen their moms go through is just insane, and they connect through that on a different level. They're actually in the same high school, but they never speak to each other until Atlas actually crashes into an empty house next to Lily's villa. When Atlas is homeless and he doesn't have anywhere to go, he just comes and breaks into the house next to Lily's, and Lily helps him with all the daily necessities like clothes and food, medicines and stuff. Furthermore, their friendship blossoms into love, but it doesn't really fructify as Atlas has to leave. This book really gave me a lot of knowledge about domestic abuse and how to deal with it.

I think the most essential skill that I've learned over the past few years is communication skills. I'm a doctor by profession, so communicating is a part of my life, and the good I get at it, the more professional success I get. So I picked up this skill in the fag end of my college life, where I was in internship doing daily OP duties. People from multiple aspects of life come to the OP department, so it helps me really connect with those patients easily, and they feel comfortable communicating with me, since I've established the ground rules. It also helps me because I come from a background where I've learned five languages, so that I think was a very important part of my professional development over the years. I think it really mattered to me when I moved from college to the outside world, where these skills have helped me connect with different people from different aspects of life.

The hardest skill I had to learn was how to style my hair. I have curly hair so it's a lot different from how you style baby or straight hair. I saw my roommate doing it she had wonderful curls and she asked me you have curly hair why don't you why don't you start using it. I said I kind of don't know how to do it and she taught me step by step how to proceed with the whole routine. It was a wonderful experience. She was really patient with me so she was a really great teacher. There are a lot of steps involved and I'm glad to say I learned it because now my curls look really nice. They have great definition and hold and it's really bouncy. Everyone compliments me for my hair now. It's actually wonderful. It's very mesmerizing to think that different types of hair require different care. There are a lot of people in India who don't understand this concept that there are people who have curly hair but still they choose to brush it out and make their hair poofy like Hagrid in Harry Potter which is a big no for me. I used to do it and my father still prefers me to do that but now it just doesn't look dry anymore. It looks lively, it looks bouncy and it looks very very shiny which is something I have never gotten from any other products be it shampoo or conditioner. So it was an overall great experience.

Band 6-7

One of the most challenging skills I learnt was public speaking. It's a skill that involved presenting ideas confidently in front of an audience and for me, it was extremely intimidating at first. I learnt it during my first year of college when I joined a debate club. Initially, I was terrified of speaking in front of others because I feared being judged or making mistakes. To overcome this, I started by watching videos of great speakers to understand their techniques. Then I practiced in front of a mirror which helped me to gain a bit of confidence that most impactful part of my learning process was participating in small club meetings where I had to deliver speech on random topics. What made it difficult was managing my nerves and organizing my thought and pressure. I remember struggling over words, forgetting my points and even shaking at times. It was also tough to receive concentrative, correct designs from others as it made me to realize how much I need to improve. Now I feel much more comfortable in public speaking and this skill has helped me in many areas of life including presentations and group discussion. It taught me the values of preservation and how stepping out of my comfort zone can lead to my personal growth.

Yeah, I would like to talk about a skill which I have learnt recently. It was a driving skill. Since I had to go to my office by car every day and my husband had to drop me, it is a bit difficult for him because in the traffic he used to get stuck and he used to get late for his work. So, we decided to learn driving that I should go for some driving class and I should be able to drive by myself and I should be able to take the car to office so that we both can save our time. So, we have searched a lot of driving schools which were nearby. So, one day when we were walking around our apartment, we could see one driving school board. So, immediately I have collected their number and I called that person and the person who had picked my call he said that I can join the course from the next day. Then, immediately I thought okay let me just don't waste time again and I selected the morning slots. The class was around 7 to 8 in the morning. So, I have just rescheduled all my activity and I started going for the preparation of driving skills. Then, daily I went for one hour. Initially, I felt it is a bit difficult for me but within the time course of 2 weeks, time I felt I could easily handle the driving. So, now after 2 weeks course, then I could get the learner's driving lessons. Then again after 3 months, I went for the original driving test and I got cleared. Now, I could take my vehicle alone by myself and I can go anywhere at least within 10 kilometers or so. So, I feel more confident.

Last year, I had displaced from my original country, Sudan, because of war. I came here, at Saudi Arabia, and I was seeking for opportunity, a job opportunity, and it was very difficult. So I decided to learn a new skill, that was data analysis, using SQL tool. It was very difficult first time. I learned it from Google, using Coursera, using Coursera program. At first, it was very hard, and very difficult, and it took long time, but finally, it was very, very beautiful. It's amazing skill, and I happy. I'm very happy, because I learned it.

Band 6-7

A difficult skill that I have learned in these past years would be singing. So ever since I was a young girl, I knew that I had this natural talent in me to be able to sing melodious tunes. But at the same time, in order to sing a song, it takes more than talent. Just as to be intelligent, it takes more than intellect, for singing, you need more than that natural talent to sing in a tune or in a rhythm. First, you need to know the music. That is the basic. And we often ignore the most basic parts of anything, any skill that you start. So I started listening to a lot of songs and identifying those basic roots, those basic notes in the songs. Moreover, I had to take some classes to identify pitch and all of these areas.

Band 6-7
