One unusual holiday I had was during a spontaneous family trip to a temple town in India. It happened about a year ago, during a long weekend. We had no specific plans, but early one morning, my father suggested we go on a road trip. Within an hour, we packed our bags and started driving without deciding the exit destination. After driving for several hours, we ended up in a serene town known as for ancient temples. The atmosphere was peaceful with calm streets, beautiful carvings on the temple walls and the senses of spiritual calmness in the air. We didn't go there for any religious reason, it was more a random exploration. What made the holiday unusual was that we had no fixed itinerary. We just roamed around the temple, complex talked to local people, tried street food and even sat by a small pond inside the temple premises for hours. It wasn't a typical holiday filled with sightseeing and scheduled activities. We spent the entire day simply walking, observing and enjoying the simplicity of the place. This trip was special because it was unplanned, relaxed and different from our usual busy holidays. It taught me that sometimes the best moments come from unexpected experiences. The peaceful vibe of the temple and the bonding with the family made it a truly memorable and unique holiday.

Absolutely! This experience opened my eyes to the joys of spontaneity. I would love to explore more places without a strict plan, as it allows for unexpected adventures and deeper connections with both family and the places we visit.

One of the most unusual holidays I ever had was a trip to a remote village in the Western Ghats. It wasn't a typical vacation spot with resorts or tourist attractions, but my friend invited me to her ancestral home and I thought, why not try something different. We travelled by train and then took a jeep through narrow, bumpy forest roads. There was no internet, very limited electricity and honestly, I was a bit nervous at first, but surprisingly, it turned out to be one of the most refreshing holidays I have ever had. We helped with farming, ate food cooked on firewood stoves and went for long walks surrounded by nothing but nature. The silence was calming and the night sky was full of stars, something that I rarely see back home. It was unusual because I had zero expectations, but ended up gaining so much peace, perspective and appreciation for a slower lifestyle. I still think about that trip when I need a mental break. So whenever I feel I am facing a difficult situation, I will think about this trip and I will think to myself that if I have overcome this trip, then I can overcome anything.

Follow up questions

What was the most memorable experience during your unusual holiday?
The most memorable experience was definitely the long walks in nature. I felt so connected to the environment, and the tranquility was unlike anything I had experienced before. Watching the sunset and stargazing at night was breathtaking, and it made me appreciate the beauty of simplicity.

How did this holiday change your perspective on travel?
This holiday taught me that travel doesn't always have to be about luxury or popular destinations. Sometimes, the most enriching experiences come from immersing yourself in a different lifestyle and connecting with nature. It made me value simplicity and the importance of taking a break from the hustle of daily life.

Would you recommend this type of holiday to others? Why?
Absolutely! I would recommend this type of holiday to anyone looking for a break from their busy lives. It offers a chance to disconnect from technology and reconnect with nature and oneself. It's a refreshing experience that can provide new perspectives and a sense of peace that is hard to find in urban settings.

One unusual holiday I had was a trip to a remote village in the mountains about two years ago. It wasn't a typical tourist spot and we hadn't planned it in advance. A friend of mine invited me to his hometown during a festival and I thought it would be a unique experience. We went by train and then took a long bus ride into the hill. The village was small, peaceful and surrounded by nature. There were no big hotels or restaurants, just simple houses and local food. I stayed with his family who were very welcoming and kind. What made the holiday unusual was how different it was from my normal trips. There was no internet, no mobile signal and no modern entertainment. We spent the time helping with farming activities, joining in the local festival celebrations and even learning traditional dance steps. It was a completely new way of living and I actually enjoyed the simplicity. It was unusual because I expected to be bored but instead I felt refreshed and connected to nature and people in a different way. The trip taught me that sometimes the best experiences come when you step out of your comfort zone. Hence, I really enjoyed that moment with my friend and it was the first and last experience in my life. That's it.

Follow up questions

What activities did you enjoy the most during your holiday?
I really enjoyed helping with the farming activities and participating in the local festival. It was fascinating to learn about their traditions and customs. The traditional dance was also a highlight, as it allowed me to connect with the locals and experience their culture firsthand.

How did the lack of modern amenities affect your experience?
The absence of internet and mobile signals made me feel more present and engaged with my surroundings. It allowed me to disconnect from my usual distractions and truly immerse myself in the village life. I found it refreshing to focus on simple pleasures and connect with people face-to-face.

Would you consider going on a similar holiday again in the future?
Absolutely! This experience opened my eyes to the beauty of simplicity and the importance of stepping out of my comfort zone. I would love to explore more remote places and learn about different cultures, as it enriches my perspective on life.

The city experienced a temperature of minus 2 degrees celsius when we were on the vacation. Moreover the city was surrounded by beautiful gardens with a great dense forest named Pandipura forest. While we were back to home after visiting the Ooty, we thought of going to Mysore to witness the palace with great Mughal architecture and unexpectedly we witnessed the famous Durga temple where we can feel stress-free by the vibes all over the temple surroundings. Then we witnessed the Lepakshi temple where we can see the evidence of existence of Lord Rama and Sita. Furthermore the building, the temple was built on the single floating pillar which was a mesmerizing experience we had through.

One day after break, I was standing and talking there with one of my friends and another friend of mine was running through the hallway and accidentally she pushed my shoulder and my pencil box hit the ground and it broke into multiple pieces to the point that it was not functional anymore.

It Ends With Us is a book I read recently. It's by the author Colleen Hoare. It's mainly a story about two teenagers, Atlas and Lily, and how they just handle their life going through high school, adolescence, and just domestic violence at home. Both of them come from very, very different families. However, they have one common determining factor between them, which is domestic violence. The abuse that they've seen their moms go through is just insane, and they connect through that on a different level. They're actually in the same high school, but they never speak to each other until Atlas actually crashes into an empty house next to Lily's villa. When Atlas is homeless and he doesn't have anywhere to go, he just comes and breaks into the house next to Lily's, and Lily helps him with all the daily necessities like clothes and food, medicines and stuff. Furthermore, their friendship blossoms into love, but it doesn't really fructify as Atlas has to leave. This book really gave me a lot of knowledge about domestic abuse and how to deal with it.

He took me to some archaeological place, historical place, I can tell, where we clicked like a lot of pictures. Of course, I was disappointed because my dress was not suiting the background. That was a different thing. He did not tell me anything. He was like, you just get into the car, I will take you to the next place. Then on that day evening, I had, I've seen the most beautiful sunset I can tell. It was so, my heart was happy dancing inside. I was like, it was so grateful. I did not tell anyone that I'm going to this trip on that day. Only my best friend knew where I was going with whom I was all day. And also, me being the desert lover, he wanted me to taste the best cafe there, which was unfortunately where we did not go because the time was like too late and the cafe was already closed. By around 11.30 or 12 o'clock, he dropped me back to my home and went back to his home. Next day, he had to go for his work, of course. He made me feel very special on that day.
