UoM and Salford do not publish an official single acceptance rate; figures shown are commonly cited estimates and vary significantly by course.
Exchange rate used: Rs.127per GBP (as of May 2026). Verify the current rate before finalizing your budget.
Counselor insight: Manchester Metropolitan University and University of Manchester are the same. They're totally different schools, with different rankings, different admission rates, different career prospects. UoM is a Russell Group university. MMU is a modern university with strong industrial links in business, health sciences, and the creative arts. The decision is not solely based on the name but on the academic profile.

Courses and Entry Requirements for Universities in Manchester
The University of Manchester
UoM is ranked QS #40 globally in 2027 (down from #35 in 2026), scoring 84.6 and placing 7th in the UK, and has produced 26 Nobel laureates. It is the strongest choice for Indian students who want a globally recognized degree and plan to apply for graduate roles in the UK or return to India at a senior level.
Courses Indian students most apply to:
- MSc Computer Science (conversion): for non-CS graduates pivoting into tech
- MSc Data Science: students report Rs.63,50,000–95,25,000 (£50,000–£75,000) starting salaries in the UK
- MBA (Alliance Manchester Business School): September intake only; requires GMAT and relevant work experience
- MSc International Business: popular with BCom and BBA graduates

Note: the £22,000–£26,000 UG band in this row is the university's own published range; it does not match the £22,000–£35,000 range shown in the overview table above, which spans UG through select specialist courses. Check your specific course page for the exact figure.
Entry requirements: 60% aggregate or above in a relevant Indian bachelor's degree. Most admissions to competitive MSc programs in CS and Data Science are from tier 1 universities, with 65-75% of them coming from these institutions. IELTS: 6.5 overall, no band less than 6.0 for most MSc programs; 7.0 for MBA and law.
Counselor insight: Indian applicants with a 55–59% aggregate are not automatically disqualified, but every other part of the application must be strong: work experience, SOP, and two academic references. An IIT tag alone will not carry a borderline application.
Scholarships for 2027 entry: The University of Manchester now offers 350+ Global Futures Scholarships worth up to Rs.12,70,000 (£10,000) each for the 2027 intake, up from 330 the previous year. Deadlines fall in March–April 2027 and vary by course; check your country profile on the official scholarships page closer to applying.
Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU)
MMU has over 38,000 students and an acceptance rate of 73%, making it the most practical choice for Indian students with a 55–65% aggregate. Its city center location also makes part-time work access straightforward.
Courses Indian students most apply to:
- MSc Business Management: Rs.22,86,000 (£18,000) per year; strong intake from Indian BCom graduates
- MSc Data Analytics: growing intake among engineering graduates
- BSc and MSc Nursing: one of few universities in Manchester offering nursing to international students
- BA Architecture: five-year program with strong studio culture
Entry requirements: 55-60% in Indian grading (equivalent to second-class honors). IELTS: 6.0 overall, with no band below 5.5 for most programs; 6.5 for Nursing.
Counselor insight: MMU's January intake is a genuine advantage that Indian students underuse. If you missed the September window, MMU runs a January intake for Business and social science programs. It can save you a full year of waiting.
University of Salford
Salford sits in Greater Manchester, a short Metrolink ride from the city centre. Its Salford Quays campus is directly next to MediaCityUK, where the BBC and ITV operate. This makes it the right first choice for students targeting careers in media, architecture, and civil engineering: not a fallback.
Courses and fees:
| Program | Annual Fee (INR) | Annual Fee (GBP) |
| BSc Civil Engineering | Rs.21,59,000 | £17,000 |
| MSc Project Management | Rs.22,86,000 | £18,000 |
| BA Media and Performance | Rs.20,32,000 | £16,000 |
| MSc Architecture | Rs.24,13,000 | £19,000 |
Entry requirements: 55–60% in an Indian bachelor's degree. IELTS 6.0 for most programs.
University of Greater Manchester
The University of Greater Manchester (formerly the University of Bolton, renamed in December 2024) is a public university based in Bolton, a 25-minute train ride from Manchester city centre. It ranked #1 for teaching quality in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2025, making it a strong option for Indian students who prioritize classroom learning and small-group teaching over research reputation.
Courses Indian students apply to:
- MSc International Management: practical-focused, strong employability outcomes
- MBA: Rs.22,22,500 (£17,500) per year; January and September intakes available
- BSc Computing and Artificial Intelligence: growing intake of Indian engineering graduates
- BSc Nursing: one of few Greater Manchester institutions offering nursing to international students
Tuition fees: Rs.22,22,500 (£17,500) per year for most UG and PG programs.
Entry requirements: 60% or above in Class 12 for undergraduate programs; 65% or above in a three-year Indian bachelor's degree for postgraduate. IELTS 6.0 minimum, 6.5 for Nursing.
Counselor insight: The Sept 2026 deadline for this university closed on 20 July 2026. For 2027-28, treat late June as your working deadline and confirm the exact date on the official admissions page as soon as applications open.

Counselor insight: Indian LLB graduates who want to practice in the UK must complete the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE), not just an LLB. The University of Law offers integrated SQE preparation, which makes it more practical for Indian students with a law career goal in England and Wales than a standard LLB at a general university.
BPP University, Manchester
BPP University is a private university with a campus in Manchester. Its specialty is professional education in law, business, finance, and health. It is a good choice for Indian students who prefer career-oriented programs, flexible intake options, and lower prices than research-led colleges. BPP accepts rolling applications for the majority of its postgraduate courses, which is perfect for students who missed the normal September deadline.
Courses Indian students apply to:
- MSc Business Management / MSc Finance: Rs.13,97,000–19,05,000 (£11,000–£15,000) per year
- LLB Law (3-year): Rs.13,97,000 (£11,000) per year

- Artist Diploma (postgraduate): Rs.26,67,000 (£21,000) per year

Arden University, Manchester
Arden University's Manchester campus offers a flexible, largely online delivery model that suits Indian students who want a UK degree while managing costs. Arden holds degree-awarding powers from the UK's Office for Students and accepts rolling applications throughout the year. It is best suited for working professionals or students who need a low-cost, flexible pathway into a UK qualification.
Courses Indian students apply to:

- Tuition: Rs.28,57,500–38,10,000 (£22,500–£30,000)
- Living costs (12 months): Rs.11,81,100–19,65,960 (£9,300–£15,480)
- UK Student Visa fee: Rs.70,866 (£558)

Check: Full breakdown of MS study costs in the UK
Counselor insight: Indian students consistently underestimate the IHS. For a 1-year MSc starting in September 2027, the IHS is £776 for the course year, plus the Graduate Route application period. Budget Rs.1–1.5 lakh for IHS alone. Pay it when completing your visa application at gov.uk, not separately.
The UK Graduate Route Is Changing: What This Means for Your Timeline
This is the single biggest change affecting anyone planning to study in Manchester right now, and it is confirmed, not proposed.
From 1 January 2027, the Graduate Route (post-study work visa) drops from 2 years to 18 months for bachelor's and master's graduates. PhD graduates will keep 3 years. The trigger is your Graduate Route application date, not your graduation date or course start date.
- Apply for the Graduate Route on or before 31 December 2026 → you still get the full 2 years.
- Apply on or after 1 January 2027 → you will get 18 months.
- A one-year MSc starting September 2027 finishes around September 2028. Since the Graduate Route can only be applied for after your course ends and your results are confirmed, virtually every 2027-28 MSc entrant will apply after the January 2027 cutoff and receive 18 months, not 2 years.
- This information is confirmed via the Statement of Changes to the Immigration Rules (14 October 2025) and Home Office caseworker guidance (updated 11 November 2025). It is not a proposal.
Plan your UK job search from the first day of your course, not after graduation.
Scholarships for Indian Students at Universities in Manchester
Apply to university scholarships when you accept your offer. Most close within weeks of the offer round.
| Scholarship | University | Value | Eligibility |
| Global Futures Scholarship | University of Manchester | Rs.10,16,000–12,70,000 (£8,000–£10,000) | International students with strong academic record; most one-year MSc programs are eligible; 350+ awards for 2027 entry, up from 330; apply once holding an offer |
| President's Doctoral Scholar Award | University of Manchester | Full tuition + stipend | PhD applicants with outstanding academic record |
| Alliance MBS Excellence Scholarship | University of Manchester | Rs.6,35,000–12,70,000 (£5,000–£10,000) | MBA applicants with strong GMAT score |
| International Excellence Scholarship | MMU | Rs.3,17,500 (£2,500) per year | International students with 65%+ in bachelor's degree |
| Salford International Excellence Award | University of Salford | Rs.1,90,500–3,81,000 (£1,500–£3,000) | First-year international students |
| Chevening Scholarship (2027-28 cycle) | UK Government | Full funding | Indian nationals with 2 years' work experience can apply. 2027-28 applications are open now and close on 6 October 2026. This is a firm deadline; extensions will not be granted. |
| Commonwealth Scholarship | Commonwealth Scholarship Commission | Full funding | Indian nationals for PhD and select Masters; apply at cscuk.fcdo.gov.uk |
Counselor insight: Indian applicants heavily underuse Chevening because they assume they won't qualify. It selects based on leadership potential, not just grades. I have seen applicants with 62% averages receive Chevening offers because their professional experience was genuinely compelling. With the 2027-28 window closing on 6 October 2026, apply now even if your grades are borderline; waiting means losing a full year.

Manchester vs Other UK Cities: A Quick Cost Check
If you are still deciding between cities, not just between Manchester universities, here is the short version: Manchester tuition and living costs are roughly 30-40% lower than London for a comparable course, mainly on rent. Manchester sits closer to Birmingham and Leeds on total cost but has more employer presence (MediaCityUK, professional services, and tech) than either. If your priority is minimizing total spend while keeping strong graduate outcomes, Manchester is one of the most efficient UK city choices for Indian students; if your priority is a specific research specialism only offered in London or Edinburgh, cost should not be the deciding factor.
3 Things to Do Before Applying to Universities in Manchester
- Confirm your target intake is September 2027, not 2026: most 2026-27 Manchester application deadlines have already closed, and fee/scholarship figures for 2027-28 should be verified on the official course page before you apply.
- Budget for an 18-month Graduate Route, not 2 years, since the trigger is your visa application date, and almost every September 2027 entrant applies after the 1 January 2027 cutoff.
- Build your visa and IHS costs into your budget before accepting an offer. Your first-year spend will increase by Rs.2-4 lakh with IHS, visa application fees, TB tests, and biometric appointments. Students starting a one-year MSc in September 2026 will graduate around September 2027 and will apply for the Graduate Route after 1 January 2027, meaning they will get 18 months, not 2 years. PhD graduates retain 3 years regardless. Plan your UK job search accordingly from day one of your course.
