What Is the UNSW Acceptance Rate? Why Published Figures Range from 22% to 76%

The UNSW acceptance rate for international students is not stated on any UNSW admissions page we reviewed, so every percentage you see online is a third-party estimate. Sites quote anywhere from 22% to 76%, usually with no source and no definition. An acceptance rate changes depending on whether it counts offers per application or enrollments per offer. Treat these numbers as unverified, including the ones that appear most often.

UNSW describes its own process in plainer terms: applications are prioritised according to academic merit and subject to program availability. That makes the acceptance rate at UNSW a moving target. One comparison shows why a single number misleads. In UNSW’s 2027 entry table, Aviation (Management) has an indicative International ATAR of 75, while Actuarial Studies sits at 97.

UNSW Acceptance Rate 2027: What Indian Students Actually Need to Get In

End-to-End Application Support

Is UNSW hard to get into? For Commerce, Law and Computer Science, the entry bands run high. Is UNSW prestigious? The QS World University Rankings 2027 placed UNSW 19th globally and first in Australia, and it belongs to the Group of Eight universities in Australia. So is UNSW a good university for Indian students? The ranking supports its reputation, but fit still depends on your program and budget.

Counselor insight: Check the program row, not the headline percentage. UNSW's table calls its scores a guide and says actual requirements may be higher or lower.

How the UNSW Acceptance Rate Is Decided: Merit, Capacity and Offer Rounds

UNSW makes offers in grouped rounds, and each round reflects how many places a program has left. For the Term 1 2027 undergraduate entry, the last application deadline was 24 September 2026, with a release on 19 November 2026 and acceptance closing on 24 December 2026. Additional offers can follow subject to capacity. Postgraduate rounds for Term 2 and Term 3 2027 are still open.

Two rules matter for Indian applicants. First, UNSW adds 5 points to the International ATAR of undergraduate applicants from eligible countries under its International Admissions Diversity Pathway, provided the score is at least 75. The pathway excludes medicine. UNSW says it uses the same country list as the International Student Award, and its India page confirms that all Indian students are eligible for that award. Second, UNSW accepts CBSE predicted results for full offers when the predicted total is 2 points above the required score, on a letter carrying the school stamp and the principal's signature.

Counselor insight: Ask your school for a predicted figure at least 2 points above the indicative score. A letter without the stamp or signature does not meet UNSW's format.

UNSW Acceptance Rate by Program for Indian Students: CBSE, ISC, and State Board Scores

UNSW publishes entry scores by program, and those scores answer questions such as the UNSW acceptance rate for engineering, law, business, and architecture better than any percentage. The table converts UNSW's 2027 international undergraduate entry table into the boards Indian students use. The entry band column is LeapScholar's grouping of the International ATAR.

State board results count only from Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka. The CBSE figure averages English or Hindi plus your best four other subjects, while ISC uses English and the best three. UNSW says every score is a guide only, and Aviation (Flying) adds separate selection criteria and a medical certificate.

The same table answers several search questions. The UNSW acceptance rate for international students' engineering question points to the Engineering (Hons) row, where UNSW's footnote groups Aerospace, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, and Software majors, so the UNSW aerospace engineering acceptance rate follows the same 81% CBSE guide. UNSW publishes entry scores, not acceptance rates for these programmes. As a CBSE guide, the UNSW business school acceptance rate question points to Commerce at 85%, Combined Law (the UNSW law acceptance rate question) at 85%, Architectural Studies at 81%, Actuarial Studies at 90% and Aviation (Management) at 75%.

Compare the best engineering universities in Australia if you want options.

Counselor insight: List more than one program preference in your first application. UNSW states that program changes after applying are not available and need a new application.

UNSW Medicine Acceptance Rate for International Students: Scores, Tests, and Interview Places

The UNSW medicine acceptance rate for international students is not published, but the selection rules are. For the Bachelor of Medical Studies/Doctor of Medicine, UNSW asks for an academic rank equivalent to an ATAR of 96, a UCAT ANZ score at or above the 50th percentile or an ISAT score of at least 165, and an interview. UNSW reports about 300 interview places a year for international applicants. Scores are not averaged.

For February 2027, direct applications close on 30 November 2026, and the final ISAT window runs from 26 October to 6 November 2026. Registration for that window closed on 12 October 2026. Predicted results are not accepted for Medicine and Health programs.

Counselor insight: Do not read 300 interview places as 300 seats. They are the number of candidates UNSW will interview, and offers go only to the top-ranked among them.

UNSW AGSM Acceptance Rate and Postgraduate Entry for Indian Graduates

UNSW does not publish a UNSW AGSM acceptance rate or a postgraduate acceptance rate that we could find. Postgraduate coursework entry is set on each degree page, and UNSW's admissions calculator advises that applicants within 5% of the listed requirement should consider applying. If your final results are incomplete, UNSW considers offers on 6 of 8 semesters with a weighted average mark 5 points above the advertised level, or on 7 of 8 semesters with a mark 2 points above it.

For course context, see Master of Information Technology in Australia and MBA fees in Australia.

Counselor insight: If you are a final-year BTech student, work out which semesters will count before you apply. One extra completed semester lowers the required mark by 3 points.

Will You Get In? UNSW Acceptance Rate Scenarios for Indian Students

If you are a Class 12 CBSE student sitting boards in February and March 2027 and aiming for September 2027 entry to Engineering (Hons), UNSW's guide lists 81% for CBSE. Ask your school for a predicted-grade letter dated after 1 November 2026 showing at least 83%.

If you are a final-year BTech student graduating in May 2027, target a Term 3 2027 postgraduate round. Apply with six completed semesters only if your weighted average is 5 points above the advertised level.

If you studied under a state board outside Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu or Karnataka, UNSW does not accept that certificate for direct entry. The UNSW College diploma route uses state categories instead: 75% minimum for Category A states such as Delhi, Gujarat, and Kerala, and 85% for Category B states such as Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh.

If you are targeting UNSW Medicine, you need an ATAR-equivalent of 96, an ISAT or UCAT ANZ result and an interview. The table lists 89% for CBSE.

UNSW Acceptance Rate Documents and English Requirements for Indian Applicants

English scores vary by faculty. UNSW asks for IELTS 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each band for Engineering, and 7.0 with 6.0 in each band for Business, Law, and Medicine. PTE Academic is 64 for Engineering and 65 for Business and Law. TOEFL iBT is 90 for Engineering and 94 for Business and Law, taken as TOEFL for Australia. CBSE English Core can meet the requirement with a C1 grade or B2 for Business, but not for Law or Medicine.

See our guides to the IELTS score for Australia, PTE requirements and the Genuine Student requirement.

Counselor insight: Book the English test early. UNSW accepts results only from the last two years and does not accept IELTS Online.

UNSW Acceptance Rate and Cost: 2027 Fees, the 20% Award and Scholarships

Tuition is charged per unit of credit, and 48 units make a standard full-time year. UNSW's 2027 undergraduate rates and the yearly totals are below.

Program area2027 cost per unitYearly tuition
EngineeringA$1,330Rs.42,77,280 (A$63,840)
Business (Commerce)A$1,240Rs.39,87,840 (A$59,520)
LawA$1,145Rs.36,82,320 (A$54,960)
MedicineA$2,175Rs.69,94,800 (A$104,400)

A Student Services and Amenities Fee is added, and postgraduate rates sit on the same page. The International Student Award gives 20% off tuition each year of the program, which is about Rs.8,55,456 (A12,768) a year in Engineering. The International Science Coursework Scholarship covers full tuition or A$20,000 a year, which is Rs.13,40,000.

See UNSW scholarships for Indian students and the cost of living in Australia.

Exchange rate used: Rs.67 per Australian dollar. Verify the current rate before finalizing your budget.

Counselor insight: The International Student Award needs a personal statement of up to 500 words. Draft it before you submit your application.

When Your Score Misses the UNSW Acceptance Rate Bar: Low Marks, Missed Deadlines and Visa Delays

Marks below the guide: Apply anyway, since UNSW calls its table a guide, list a second-preference program, and consider the UNSW College foundation or diploma route.

Missed offer deadline: UNSW asks you to reapply once an offer lapses. It grants extensions only in extreme special circumstances and does not accept waiting for another university as a reason.

Genuine Student check: If UNSW asks for the declaration or assessment, finish it before acceptance. Read our GS requirements guide.

Visa delays: UNSW advises you to submit your student visa application as soon as you receive your Confirmation of Enrolment, since processing can run longer. Review the Australian student visa rejection rates.

Backup options: Compare Australian universities with high acceptance rates and Level 1 universities in Australia.

Counselor insight: Accept an offer inside its window even if another result is pending. UNSW does not treat a pending outcome elsewhere as a reason to extend.

3 Takeaways on UNSW Acceptance Rate

  1. Use your program's entry score, not a headline UNSW acceptance rate. UNSW publishes no overall figure, so compare your CBSE, ISC, or state board percentage with the 2027 row for your course.
  2. Apply early in a grouped round and list backup preferences. Offers follow merit and capacity, and program changes after applying need a new application.
  3. Prepare English and Genuine Student documents before you apply. A valid test result and a correctly formatted predicted-grade letter keep your offer moving.

Frequently Asked Questions About Acceptance Rate at UNSW

What is the UNSW acceptance rate for international students?

The admissions pages we reviewed do not state an official acceptance rate for international students. Third-party estimates range from 22% to 76% and carry no source. UNSW says offers are prioritized by academic merit and program availability, so your program's entry score in the 2027 table is a more reliable guide than any single percentage.

Is UNSW hard to get into for Indian students?

Difficulty depends on the program. UNSW's 2027 guide lists indicative CBSE scores from 75% for Aviation (Management) to 90% for Actuarial Studies, with Engineering (Hons) at 81%. Medicine adds an entrance test and interview. Applicants close to a listed score can still apply, since UNSW describes the table as a guide only.

What is the UNSW acceptance rate for engineering for international students?

An indicative International ATAR of 89 is the only engineering benchmark UNSW publishes. Its 2027 table converts that to 81% for CBSE, 90% for ISC and 96% for state boards from Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka. Aerospace, Civil, Software, and other engineering majors are listed together in the table footnote.

What is the UNSW acceptance rate for medicine for international students?

Medicine has no published offer rate. UNSW reports about 300 interview places a year for international applicants, and offers go to the top-ranked candidates across academic score, UCAT ANZ, or ISAT, and interviews. A high score in one area cannot make up for a low score in another.

What is the UNSW acceptance rate for law?

A law acceptance rate has not been published. The 2027 table lists Combined Law at an International ATAR of 92, which equals 85% for CBSE and 92% for ISC. English requirements are higher than engineering, at IELTS 7.0 with 6.0 in each band, and predicted results are not accepted for Law and Justice programs.

What is the acceptance rate for UNSW architecture, actuarial, and aviation?

Entry scores, not acceptance rates, are what UNSW gives for these programs. Architectural Studies is listed at 81% for CBSE, Actuarial Studies at 90%, and Aviation (Management) at 75%. Actuarial is among the most selective at an International ATAR of 97. Aviation (Flying) also needs separate selection criteria and a medical certificate.

What is the UNSW AGSM acceptance rate?

An AGSM acceptance rate is not published that we could find. AGSM courses sit on a separate fee scale and were excluded from earlier International Student Award terms, so verify current terms. Confirm academic and work experience requirements on the AGSM program page before applying.

Is UNSW prestigious, and is it a good university?

Rankings support its standing: UNSW placed 19th in the QS World University Rankings 2027 and first in Australia, and first in Australia for employment outcomes in the same ranking. It is a Group of Eight member. The right choice still depends on your program, budget, and post-study work plans.

What happens if I miss my UNSW offer acceptance deadline?

A lapsed offer is treated as closed, and UNSW asks you to reapply. Extensions are approved only in extreme special circumstances, and waiting for another university's result is not accepted as a reason. Most international offers carry an 8-week acceptance window, so note the expiry date in the applicant portal on the day your offer arrives.

Which Indian boards does UNSW accept for undergraduate entry?

UNSW accepts CBSE (AISSCE), the Indian School Certificate (ISC), and state board certificates from Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka for direct entry. Higher secondary certificates from other states are not accepted for direct entry, though UNSW College diplomas use state categories. CBSE predicted results are accepted for most programs, but not for Law or Medicine.
