  • UBC reports admit rates for international applicants, not Indian applicants.
  • UBC Vancouver’s international undergraduate admit rate was 71% in 2025/26.
  • UBC Vancouver’s international master’s and PhD admit rate was 25%.
  • Indian undergraduate enrollment at UBC Vancouver fell 27% since 2021/22.
  • UBC treats First Division (65%) as the Indian degree minimum.
  • The undergraduate application deadline for September 2027 is 15 January.

What Is the UBC Acceptance Rate for Indian Students? Why No India-Specific Figure Exists

The UBC acceptance rate for Indian students is not published. UBC reports admit rates for international and domestic applicants on each campus, not for individual countries, so any figure labelled as the Indian rate is a third-party estimate. Pages quote 52%, 56%, or 60% without saying which year, campus, or applicant pool they mean. UBC defines its admit rate as offers to the applicant’s preferred program divided by completed applications, and that count includes applicants refused for missing requirements or for lack of space.

The nearest official number is the international rate on the campus you choose: 71% at Vancouver and 82% at Okanagan for undergraduates in 2025/26. That is the UBC acceptance rate for international students, an average across every country.

Counselor insight: Read a UBC percentage as an international average, not a personal forecast. It mixes every curriculum and every program, so it cannot tell you how a CBSE or ISC profile will fare in one degree.

UBC Acceptance Rate for Indian Students: International Admit Rates at Vancouver and Okanagan, 2021 to 2025

UBC's Annual Enrollment Report gives five years of undergraduate admission and yield rates. Yield is registrations divided by offers.

YearVancouver international admitVancouver international yieldVancouver domestic admitOkanagan international admitOkanagan international yield
2021/2245%31%51%73%27%
2022/2351%32%47%72%26%
2023/2456%30%50%73%26%
2024/2568%27%58%80%23%
2025/2671%30%55%82%25%

Two cautions apply. From 2024/25, UBC's Vancouver figures include post-baccalaureate programs and some diplomas and certificates that were not counted before, so part of the jump from 56% to 68% is a counting change. Second, the international applicant pool fell 6% at Vancouver and 10% at Okanagan in 2025/26, which raises the admit rate without making any single degree easier. With a yield near 30%, about seven in ten international applicants who receive an offer do not register.

Is UBC hard to get into for Indian students? The average entering range across all academic courses was 89-91% at Vancouver and 85-87% at Okanagan, and UBC estimates about 13% of admitted applicants would not have been admitted on grades alone.

Counselor insight: Treat Okanagan as a real option, not a fallback. Its international admit rate is higher, and its entering range is lower, but it offers fewer degrees, so check that your program exists there before you rank it.

How UBC Decides the UBC Acceptance Rate for Indian Students: Grades, Personal Profile, and Offers

UBC states that its process is competitive and comparative, so your application is evaluated against every other application for the same degree. It reads your grades in all Grade 11 and Grade 12 academic classes, pays extra attention to courses linked to your degree, and excludes your lowest grade unless that course is a degree requirement. It also looks at whether you chose challenging courses.

The personal profile adds a second layer. UBC scored over 41,500 personal profiles in 2025/26, read by close to 300 trained readers. The Sauder commerce application adds a video interview to its profile. Admissions decisions for high school applicants are made on a continuous basis from November 2026 to June 2027, and you may rank two programs, on one or both campuses.

Counselor insight: Use the second program choice deliberately. A closely related degree on the other campus protects you if your first choice is full, and UBC lets you rank both in a single application.

UBC Acceptance Rate for Indian Students by Program: Engineering, Computer Science, and Commerce

UBC does not publish program-level admit rates that we could find, so the UBC acceptance rate for engineering for Indian students and the UBC computer science acceptance rate for international students cannot be quoted honestly. What UBC does publish is how it judges applicants to these degrees. Engineering applicants enter Applied Science, which is among the most expensive first-year international degrees. Computer Science sits in its own degree stream, and the UBC Sauder commerce acceptance rate for international students depends on the personal profile and video interview as well as grades.

UBC’s entering range of 89-91% is an outcome across admitted students, not a stated minimum.” plus the same editor note

Counselor insight: Read the degree-specific requirement before the average. UBC says requirements depend on your country and your degree, so a strong overall percentage will not rescue a missing required subject.

UBC Acceptance Rate for Indian Students for Masters: Graduate Admit Rates and the 65% Rule

For graduate study, the UBC master's acceptance rate for Indian students is also unpublished, but the international rate is. At Vancouver, international master's and doctoral admit rates were 14%, 16%, 18%, 19% and 25% from 2021/22 to 2025/26, against 40% for domestic applicants, with yield at 46%. Okanagan's international rate was 31%. The international graduate application pool fell 24% at Vancouver in 2025/26, which helps explain the rise.

The minimum is stated more clearly. UBC's standard master's floor is an overall B+ average (76% at UBC) in third and fourth year. For India, UBC lists First Class/Division 1 (65%) or 8 on a 10-point scale, and accepts a three-year degree only with first class standing from a designated Indian institution. Programs can set higher minimums.

See MS in Canada, the cost of a master's in Canada and the winter intake in Canada.

Counselor insight: Treat 65% as the entry ticket, not the target. A 25% international admit rate means most completed applications do not receive offers, so the program's own minimum and your research or work fit matter more.

Why the UBC Acceptance Rate for Indian Students Matters Now: Falling Enrolment and Study Permits

Indian numbers at UBC have fallen. Indian-citizen undergraduates at Vancouver dropped from 1,973 in 2021/22 to 1,448 in 2025/26, a 27% fall, and graduate students from 536 to 285, a 47% fall. At Okanagan, Indian undergraduates fell from 452 to 250. India remains one of UBC's largest international source countries, behind China, but the trend is downward.

UBC links part of this to permits: it says some new international students cannot obtain a study permit in time, or at all, which affects enrollment. From 1 January 2026, master's and doctoral students at public Canadian institutions do not need a provincial attestation letter. Undergraduates still need one in most cases.

See attestation letters.

Counselor insight: Start the permit paperwork the day you accept. UBC advises international applicants to apply as soon as they accept, because a permit can take several months.

Will You Get In? UBC Acceptance Rate for Indian Students Scenarios

If you are a Class XII CBSE student targeting Engineering at Vancouver, you compete against every applicant to Applied Science, and UBC reads all your academic grades. Apply early and rank Okanagan Engineering second.

If you are targeting Commerce at Sauder, plan for the personal profile and video interview as well as marks, since grades alone do not decide the outcome.

If you are a final-year BTech student graduating in 2027, aim for a master's. Check your target program's minimum, since 65% is only the university-level equivalent of the B+ floor.

If you hold a three-year degree, UBC accepts it only with first-class standing from a designated institution. Confirm your institution on the UBC India page before you apply.

Counselor insight: Match your scenario to a deadline today. The International Scholars award deadline falls two months before applications close, so a late decision costs you options.

The English Language Admission Standard offers nine ways to qualify. The test route accepts PTE Academic at 65 overall and the Duolingo English Test at 125. UBC's calendar sets IELTS Academic at 6.5 with no part below 6.0, and tests older than two years are not considered. TOEFL scores moved to a new scale for tests taken on or after 21 January 2026.

Counselor insight: Check the test date against the two-year rule before you book. A strong score taken too early is not accepted, and the 15 February document deadline leaves little room to retake.

UBC Acceptance Rate and Cost: 2026/27 Tuition and Scholarships

UBC’s 2026/27 international first-year tuition at Vancouver varies by degree, and tuition can rise by no more than 3% a year for four years.” followed by a table: Applied Science Engineering CAD 66,199.66 (Rs.45,01,577); Commerce (Sauder) CAD 66,678.30 (Rs.45,34,124); Computer Science and Science CAD 53,082.00 (Rs.36,09,576); Arts CAD 51,530.40 (Rs.35,04,067)

Exchange rate used: Rs.68 per Canadian dollar. Verify the current rate before finalizing your budget.

Counselor insight: Budget from the degree's own tuition, not an average. Engineering and Commerce cost about Rs.10 lakh more per year than Arts, so compare each offer’s actual tuition.

If Your Profile Misses the UBC Acceptance Rate for Indian Students

Marks below the range: Rank a related degree or Okanagan second, and compare other Canadian options in Canadian universities with high acceptance rates.

English score short: UBC offers other routes to the standard, including a waiver request for fully proficient applicants and academic English programs. Ask by 15 February.

Missed the deadline: Winter Session applications close once the deadline passes.

Permit delay: Apply as soon as you accept. Read about the PGWP in Canada when comparing backups.

No offer: Rolling decisions continue until June, so keep documents current while you wait.

Counselor insight: Hold one application outside the most competitive degrees. A realistic Arts or Science application is a stronger fallback than a second Engineering profile.

3 Takeaways on UBC Acceptance Rate for Indian Students

  1. Use UBC's international data, not an invented UBC acceptance rate for Indian students. UBC publishes no India figure, so rely on the campus and program information it does publish.
  2. Prepare grades, the personal profile and English proof early. Applications and English documents have fixed 2027 deadlines, so start early.
  3. Plan for the study permit and keep a backup. Apply for the permit the day you accept and rank a second program.

Frequently Asked Questions About UBC Acceptance Rate for Indian Students

  • What is the UBC acceptance rate for Indian students?

UBC does not publish a rate for Indian applicants. It reports admit rates for international applicants by campus, which were 71% for undergraduates at Vancouver and 82% at Okanagan in 2025/26. Those figures average every country, so they describe the pool, not your own chances in a specific degree.

  • What is the UBC acceptance rate for international students?

For undergraduates in 2025/26, UBC reported a 71% international admit rate at Vancouver and 82% at Okanagan. For master's and doctoral programs, the Vancouver international rate was 25%. These count offers to preferred programs against completed applications, and 2024/25 onward includes some programs not counted before.

  • Is UBC hard to get into for Indian students?

Difficulty depends on the degree. UBC compares you with everyone applying to the same degree, and the average entering range was 89-91% at Vancouver in 2025/26. Engineering and Commerce add degree-specific requirements, and for Commerce, a video interview, so a strong average does not guarantee an offer.

  • What is the UBC acceptance rate for engineering for Indian students?

Engineering-specific rates are not published that we could find. Engineering applicants apply to Applied Science, where 2026/27 international first-year tuition is C$66,199.66. UBC evaluates all academic grades with extra weight on relevant courses, so check the degree's subject requirements for your board.

  • What is the UBC computer science acceptance rate for international students?

UBC does not publish a computer science rate. Computer Science is a separate degree with 2026/27 international first-year tuition of C$53,082. You are compared with other applicants to that degree, so strong mathematics grades and a clear personal profile matter more than the university average.

  • What is the UBC Sauder commerce acceptance rate for international students?

Sauder does not publish an international rate we could find. Applicants complete the personal profile, which for Commerce includes short essays and a video interview, alongside grades. Tuition for 2026/27 is C$66,678.30 for the first-year load, so plan the profile and the budget together.

  • What is the UBC acceptance rate for masters for Indian students?

The Vancouver international graduate admit rate was 25% in 2025/26, up from 14% in 2021/22, against 40% for domestic applicants. UBC’s standard master’s floor is a B+ (76%). For Indian degrees, its India page lists First Division (65%) as the equivalent.

  • Is UBC Okanagan easier to get into than Vancouver?

Its published international admit rate is higher: 82% against 71% in 2025/26, and the entering range is 85-87% against 89-91%. That does not make every degree easier, since Okanagan offers fewer programs. Confirm your degree exists on the campus before you rank it.

  • What if I miss the 15 January UBC deadline?

Winter Session applications for September 2027 are due on 15 January 2027, so a missed deadline means waiting for the next cycle. Use the gap to strengthen grades and your personal profile, and compare other Canadian universities while you decide.
