Description of LSE Scholarships

Here’s a description of the eligibility criteria and documents required for the Scholarships:

• LSE Undergraduate Support Scheme

International students who are not from a financially strong background and can not meet their educational expenses are eligible to apply for a scholarship under this scheme. The amount will depend on the candidate’s individual circumstances.

LSE Undergraduate Scholarship Application form.	The form has to be filled out following the guidelines and duly submitted.
1 Academic Reference	This document can be submitted with the application, or it can be submitted separately.

• JN Tata Endowment Scholarship

Set up in 1892 by the founder of the Tata group, the JN Tata Endowment encourages young Indians to pursue higher education from abroad with loan scholarships. 

Documents	Details
Statement of Purpose	It should be addressed to “Trustees of the JN Tata Endowment.” It has to reflect clearly why the candidate has chosen the specific course and his/her goals.
Letter of Recommendation	1 LoR required It should be either from a professor of the candidate’s college/university or the employer if the candidate was working.

• Inlaks Foundation Scholarship

Inlaks Shivdasani Scholarships are awarded to young Indians to pursue full-time Master’s/MPhil/Doctoral programmes at top-rated institutions in the USA, UK, and Europe.

Valid Passport	Candidates need to submit a copy of their passports.
English Language Certification	If it’s necessary for their admission, candidates need to acquire the required Certification before applying for the scholarship.
Letters of Recommendation	2 LoRs are mandatory One must be from an academic supervisor/professor.

• Margaret Basu Scholarship

Margaret Basu Scholarship is awarded to students who are currently citizens of India. Applicants need to be accepted by LSE conditionally/unconditionally for a full-time Master’s programme. Recipients are chosen based on their academic merit and financial need.

LSE Graduate Financial Application Form	This form has to be submitted via the Graduate Application Tracker.
Letter of Conditional/Unconditional Acceptance into the chosen course of study	The proof of the candidate’s acceptance has to be submitted while applying for the scholarship.

• Marchant Foundation LLM Scholarship

Marchant Foundation LLM Scholarship resulted from a donation by a former LSE Law Graduate. Primary consideration will be given to Indian applicants currently residing in India. Only when there are no suitable Indian candidates will applicants with UK and EU fee status be considered.

LSE Graduate Financial Support Application Form	This form has to be submitted through the Graduate Application Tracker.
Statement of Purpose	A solid personal statement detailing the candidate’s motivation and goals is required.
Proof of Admission to the chosen course of study	Proof that the candidate has been accepted into the chosen course of study is required.

• Lady Meherbai Tata Education Trust Scholarship

The Lady Meherbai D Tata Education Trust provides scholarships to Indian women for pursuing their education abroad. Candidates need to display a consistently good academic record. They need to apply for or secure admission to reputed foreign universities. Candidates must have relevant work experience of a minimum of 2 years.

Letter of Confirmation	Proof of confirmation of acceptance needs to be submitted.
Course Fee	The details of the Course Fee are required.
Curriculum Vitae	An updated CV detailing the candidate’s educational and work experiences are required.
Financial Statements	The details of the candidate’s financial background are required.

• Rajeeb Mukherjee Memorial Scholarship

Rajeeb Mukherjee Memorial Scholarship is awarded to eligible candidates from India, Bangladesh and Canada as a result of a generous endowment. It would cover the cost of study at LSE.

English Language Certification	TOEFL-iBT – minimum score of 100 is required IELTS – Minimum score of 7.0 is required PTE Academic – Minimum score of 69 is required
Offer of Admission	Proof of acceptance to the chosen course has to be attached to the application.
Academic References	Letters of Recommendation from academic supervisors are required.
Statement of Purpose	An essay detailing the candidate’s personal goals and motivation to study the UG course has to be provided.
Extra Cost	Proof of any extra cost that affects the student has to be submitted. For example, if there are medical expenses involved, then medical bills have to be submitted.
Income Certificate	Income Certificates of parents/spouse/partner have to be submitted

• QS Leadership Scholarship

Offered by Quacquarelli Symonds Ltd, QS Leadership Scholarship is awarded to students who are aspiring to pursue their Master’s at one of the partner institutions of QS. Applicants must have attended at least one of the following QS events – World Grad School Tour, World MBA Tour, Connect a Masters or Connect MBA. They can only apply for this scholarship after being accepted by a university. Selection depends upon merit and proof of social leadership achievements.

Statement of Purpose	A 500-words essay needs to be submitted.  Weightage is given to the format of the essay. Primary emphasis is given to the relevance of the content. Applicants need to mention their full name, QS Event attended and the title of the scholarship in the essay.

• Sir Ratan Tata Post-Doctoral Fellowship for South Asian Students

This Fellowship is a collaboration between LSE and Sir Ratan Tata Trust. Applicants must belong to the SAARC region and should have completed their PhD degree. Another important criterion is that their research work on social science must focus on South Asia.

• Commonwealth Rutherford Fellowship

This Fellowship is awarded to meritorious students from commonwealth countries to pursue their postdoctoral research in the UK. Applicants need to be permanent residents of a commonwealth country. In addition, their research proposal needs to be innovative.

PhD Certificate	Applicants need to attach their PhD Certificate with the application.
Letters of Recommendation	Minimum 2 LoRs are required, one of which must be from the PhD Supervisor.
Proof of Acceptance	A statement from the proposed supervisor in the UK is required.
English Language and Certification	TOEFL and IELTS scores are required.
Passport	A copy of the Passport is required.
