Tuition and semester fees: Rs.32.7K to Rs.54.5K (EUR 300–500) per semester at most public universities. Baden-Württemberg universities (KIT, Stuttgart) additionally charge Rs.1.64L (EUR 1,500) per semester.

Blocked account: Germany's Federal Foreign Office requires proof that you can financially support yourself in Germany as part of the visa application. For 2026, this is Rs.12.98L (EUR 11,904) per year, disbursed as Rs.1.08L (EUR 992) per month once you land.

The total cost of MTech in Germany for Indian students, including tuition and living expenses over 2 years, typically ranges from Rs.24L to Rs.32L, with living costs constituting the majority rather than tuition. The tuition gap between a "free" university and a Baden-Württemberg one (roughly Rs.6.54L over two years) is smaller than most applicants assume.

Counselor insight: Students consistently under-budget health insurance and the shared-flat deposit (Kaution), which can be 2–3 months' rent upfront. Add a Rs.1L buffer beyond the blocked account minimum.

Masters in Germany for Indian students cost drops significantly once a scholarship covers part or all of the living-cost gap, but timing matters more than the amount, since most windows close 10 to 12 months before intake.

• Apply to DAAD before you have a university offer in hand. Its deadlines fall 10 to 12 months ahead of intake, so waiting for admission results means missing the window entirely.
• Deutschlandstipendium and most university-specific awards are applied for only after you enroll, so treat them as a semester-1 task, not a pre-departure one.
• Most funders, DAAD included, don't allow you to hold two publicly funded German scholarships at once. Pick your strongest-fit option rather than applying everywhere and hoping to stack awards.
• If your German is still at A1/A2, Avicenna-Studienwerk and party-affiliated foundations (Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung) are not realistic near-term options. Prioritise DAAD or university-specific scholarships instead, and revisit language-gated funding once you've reached B2.

Counselor insight: DAAD rejection doesn't mean no funding. Every TU9 university runs its scholarship or fee-waiver process in parallel, and most students never check theirs because they assume DAAD is the only route. Ask your international office about internal funding the same week you accept an offer.

Missed the uni-assist deadline: Some programs keep a rolling window past July 15; check with the international office before assuming rejection. Otherwise, use the extra months to strengthen GATE or IELTS.

IELTS or GATE score below cut-off: Retake before your next cycle. A low GATE score alone usually qualifies you if English and SOP are strong.

APS certificate delayed: Contact the APS office with your reference number. Submit Uni-Assist with at least a receipt of APS submission where the university allows it.

Visa appointment unavailable in peak season: Book the day you receive your admission letter; check nearby consulates for earlier slots.

Blocked account funds delayed: International transfers can take 5–10 working days. Fund the account at least 3 weeks before your visa appointment.
