I picked up the watch from my garage. It was thrown by my father. It is a long back story. Around a year when I was cleaning my garage and I found out a watch over there. It was not working and I picked that watch and I saw. It was a really good watch I think. The glass was not broken. There were no scratches on that watch. So I picked it up and brought it back to my home. I asked my father about that watch. He said that I had thrown it already because it was not working. After that I asked my father that he had never given it to anyone who takes care of watches. So he denied that I don't want to keep it. If you want to keep it, you can take it. So I have kept it with myself. I have also given it to the person who looks in the watch and he made it working for me. Once I made it work, I looked for the price and I checked the price online. Once I checked it, I was also shocked about that thing. I was over the moon at that time. Because that watch was very expensive. If I recall that it was around 70,000 at that time. Still I told my father about that watch that it is so expensive. He was very happy that I picked it and made it work. I think it was the only time we were on the same page. That my father agreed that you should never throw your things away. You should always try to keep it.

Follow up questions

What do you think about throwing away items that are not working?
I believe that we should be careful about throwing away items, especially if they can be repaired. Sometimes, things that seem useless can have value, either sentimentally or financially. It's always worth checking if something can be fixed before discarding it.

How do you feel about repairing old items instead of buying new ones?
I feel that repairing old items is a great way to save money and reduce waste. It also allows us to appreciate the history and craftsmanship of older items. Plus, it can be satisfying to bring something back to life that was once considered broken.

Have you ever found anything else that someone else discarded?
Yes, I have found a few other items that were thrown away, like books and furniture. Each time, I felt a sense of excitement and curiosity about their history. It’s interesting to think about why someone would discard something that still has potential value.

It was Sunday evening around dawn. I wanted to eat ice cream and naturally I went ahead and got down from my apartment and went to the grocery store. As I made my way towards the grocery store I saw a bunch of kids playing cricket. Naturally I wanted to play with them as it had been a long time since I had played cricket with anyone, be it my friends or be it just some random stranger. I stood there for about half a minute and I watched them play. Fortunately or unfortunately while they were playing one of their balls was shot towards me. It landed next to my feet and I picked the ball. I contemplated for a minute about what to do. One hand I wanted to return the ball to them, on the other hand I wanted to ask them to play. But I knew how we felt when we were children and some older guy asked to play with us. It was not really an ideal condition so despite not wanting to return the ball without asking them to play, I just returned the ball to them with a smile on my face and made my way towards the grocery store. I got ice cream and while returning had another glance at the kids playing cricket, smiled and left home.

Follow up questions

I felt a mix of nostalgia and excitement. It reminded me of my childhood when I used to play cricket with friends. I was happy to see the kids enjoying the game, but I also felt a bit hesitant about interrupting their play.

I believe outdoor games are essential for children's development. They promote physical fitness, teamwork, and social skills. It's great to see kids engaging in activities like cricket, as it helps them build friendships and enjoy their childhood.

Have you ever played cricket with strangers before?
Yes, I have played cricket with strangers in the past. It can be a fun experience as it brings people together, regardless of age or background. Sharing a game creates a sense of community and can lead to new friendships.

While I was going to my mother's house, which is nearby my home only, I found a pack of leftover food, which was really shocking for me because in India, we compare food to God and there was a huge packet of leftover food might be thrown by some brat who doesn't value the importance of food. The food is so important, if we look around us, there are many people who can't afford a single time of food and today's generation is going somewhere else and they don't consider it as important. So, while going back, I saw a stray dog coming towards me, while gazing at his eyes, I could easily judge that he was feeling very hungry. So, I opened the leftover food packet and I fed the dog with the food. I really felt happy and mesmerized when I could see that with that food, I could fill the stomach of someone. The dog was really, really, I could see.

Follow up questions

Why do you think food waste is a significant issue in today's society?
Food waste is a major issue because it reflects a lack of appreciation for resources. Many people are unaware of the struggles faced by those who are food insecure. In a world where so many go hungry, wasting food is not just irresponsible but also morally concerning.

How can individuals contribute to reducing food waste?
Individuals can reduce food waste by planning meals, buying only what they need, and donating excess food. Educating others about the importance of valuing food and sharing leftovers with those in need can also make a significant difference in the community.

What role do you think education plays in addressing food waste?
Education plays a crucial role in addressing food waste by raising awareness about its impact on society and the environment. Teaching people about food sustainability, the importance of sharing, and the value of resources can foster a more responsible attitude towards food consumption.

Follow up questions

Why do you think people litter in public places?
People often litter because they may not understand the impact of their actions on the environment. Some might feel that someone else will clean up after them, while others may not have been taught the importance of keeping public spaces clean. It's a lack of awareness and responsibility.

What can be done to encourage people to keep parks clean?
To encourage cleanliness in parks, we can organize community clean-up events, provide more trash bins, and create awareness campaigns about the importance of keeping the environment clean. Education in schools about environmental responsibility can also play a significant role.

Have you ever participated in any community clean-up activities?
Yes, I have participated in community clean-up activities. It was a great experience to work with others towards a common goal. We collected trash from local parks and beaches, and it felt rewarding to see the immediate impact of our efforts on the environment.

It Ends With Us is a book I read recently. It's by the author Colleen Hoare. It's mainly a story about two teenagers, Atlas and Lily, and how they just handle their life going through high school, adolescence, and just domestic violence at home. Both of them come from very, very different families. However, they have one common determining factor between them, which is domestic violence. The abuse that they've seen their moms go through is just insane, and they connect through that on a different level. They're actually in the same high school, but they never speak to each other until Atlas actually crashes into an empty house next to Lily's villa. When Atlas is homeless and he doesn't have anywhere to go, he just comes and breaks into the house next to Lily's, and Lily helps him with all the daily necessities like clothes and food, medicines and stuff. Furthermore, their friendship blossoms into love, but it doesn't really fructify as Atlas has to leave. This book really gave me a lot of knowledge about domestic abuse and how to deal with it.

One day I was drinking a juice from a local store with my two-wheeler. After some time, a small family came with a car and they stopped there and also ordered a juice and were drinking from their car. After drinking all this juice and all, they left. They had a small baby. So when they were leaving, this baby threw this teddy bear out of the window. But nobody saw. I saw it and I was like, oh my god, his toy fell down and I was really, you know, anxious. And I went and took that teddy bear. It was very cute. It was a white fluffy doll which is having a heart-shaped eyes and it had a large ice cream cone on its hand. It was so fluffy and soft. So I thought of giving, returning it back. But they already had left their car. I have, it was a black Swift. So I took my two-wheeler and after giving the money for my juice, I took my two-wheeler and went after them. After, as it is a car, it had been going through a very, very high speed. So I just went forward and I could not see the car. So I increased my speed and I went after them. After some time, I saw the car. It was in a traffic, there was a traffic jam. Thank god, I was able to get the particular car and I saw the baby. And I was sure that it was the same car. I went and parked on the side of the road and I knocked on the window. They were like, I was trying, they were like I was trying to sell something for them like, you know, in the road. So I showed this teddy bear to the family and they smiled at me and thanked me for returning the teddy bear. So I told them that your child had dropped it when they were drinking the juice. And I was, I wanted to give it back to them. And they thanked me and I was very happy because I could do a favor to them. The baby was also very happy.

The object that I picked was a book, so once my brother was shifting his room so he was throwing a lot of books which was unused by him so I took the book when I was studying in 10th standard which was very long. What I did with that book was I started reading the book, so as a result I started learning new things by reading the book. I learnt a lot of things from the book which where I actually implied them in my current life which made me very to grow my personality over a period of time. It helped me mould my personality.

    Band 6

Usually many people hesitate to take the things which are thrown by other people. So, I was not that type of person who usually don't hesitate. So, I basically took a watch, Cashew G-Shock watch from a bus stand. So, it happened around 3 to 4 months back. One fine day, I was travelling to Madurai. So, once I reached Coimbatore bus station, I was waiting at the lobby. Where I saw a Cashew G-Shock watch which cost around 5000 rupees was there on the floor. So, when I saw it, I have waited for few minutes to check whether if someone came to pick that or not. So, I waited for around 15 minutes. So, no one came to pick that watch. So, I took that watch for just seeing. So, once I saw that, I loved that model and I kept it with me. It cost around 5000 rupees and I like it very much. And basically, its model is Cashew GS7500. It was found in a very good quality and I love it very much than other watches which I have. I am the type of person who really loves watch collection. And I almost have around 20 to 25 watches in my collection. And this is my 26th watch which I got it for free which is a very lucky thing. And I think many people should not hesitate to take these kind of things when it was thrown by other people. And even though it is very useful to me, it doesn't go to any garbage or dump. And many rich people will use to throw those old watches into a dump. So, instead of wasting that watches, we can use it.

    Band 6

So, to describe something that I have picked up that somebody else has thrown, I would go back to my childhood when I used to see these small toys, small toys or these you know, the charms that are fallen by mistake generally. So, and there are kids that throw their old toys sometimes. So, it was a good feeling at that age and these used to be fallen on the road or the park mostly and I used to feel happy and sort of content and it was it was a good feeling as such to you know have something which is something different from your toy collection. So, but I used to just have it for some time and then yeah, that enthusiasm is gone after playing for one or two hours. So, that's childhood I feel.

    Band 6

The thing which I picked up, which was thrown by someone else, was a balloon. It was a red color heart shaped balloon, which was not so big, it was actually a tiny one. I went near the bin, I picked that balloon up and took with me to home. Everyone around me was like, are you mad, why go and pick up a thrown balloon, instead of that we can buy a new one. I was like no, someone just wasted that balloon and I love balloons, I can't make it go to the waste. So I picked that balloon up, so I took that balloon with me to the home and I tied that balloon in my balcony and that balloon was there in my balcony for a total 15 days. And every time I wake up, went into my balcony to see the balloon, I was so happy, it freshen up my mood that when things are not kept with the right person, they eventually throw that things, but when they throw it away, they are taken by someone for whom they are precious, like that balloon, that the previous owner who throw the balloon away, was not able to know the preciousness of that balloon, but for me it was very important, so I pick up that balloon and took it to my home. And for some reason I felt like I was connected with the previous owner by bringing that balloon to my home, because something bad would have happened, because no one can throw a balloon and I brought it to that balloon, but the thing which was bad for him was good for me because I always feel happy and I cherish every time I see that balloon.

    Band 6

In this world, there is a really bad habit of people that they throw things intentionally, which is not good. Throwing things shows that you do not value what you have. You have no respect for the thing that you possess. So in such a case, something similar happened to me last year. When I was on my way back from school, I noticed that there was a packet of biscuits that was thrown on the ground. I was suspecting that it might not be open. So when I actually went to check it, it wasn't open. So I thought better than to waste it, I should rather donate it to some needy person. So near my house, there is a temple. And since I was back from my school, I decided to venture towards there. And I even thought about whether I should pick this thing up or not, whether someone is looking for it or not. But I thought that maybe better than it being thrown in the garbage, I should rather give it to a needy person. I asked the beggars there if they actually wanted. I informed them of its condition, and I thought it would be best not to hide it from them. And when they came to know about it, they were in agreement. So it was in a situation that they have nothing better to get. So it's better than to rot in the garbage, they should get the packet of biscuits. In that sense, I thought it was right to do.

Recently I found a wallet. I found it on the road while walking back home from work. The time was 9pm. There was nothing such an interesting thing in that wallet. So I just checked what was in it. It was a waste of time picking it up from the road and checking it. I felt little weird as everyone around me were watching at me only. I felt little shy because I am a shy person. Everyone was kind of judging me because it was a wallet and everyone was feeling like I am doing such a wrong thing.
