Quick Read

  • University of Warsaw does not publish one official acceptance rate.
  • Official 2026 data shows about 28% of registrations qualified.
  • UW medicine drew nearly 33 applicants per seat in 2026.
  • Indian Class 12 applicants need NAWA recognition and B2 English.
  • Indian bachelor’s applicants must also pass a UW entrance exam.
  • Each UW application costs Rs.2,136 (85 PLN) per program.

What Is the University of Warsaw Acceptance Rate in 2027-28?

The University of Warsaw acceptance rate is usually quoted as 20-30%. That figure is an estimate from ranking aggregators, not a number UW publishes. Using UW’s own 2026 admission results, roughly 28% of registrations ended in qualification. For an Indian applicant, though, the percentage matters less than two other questions: which program you choose, and whether your documents meet Poland’s 2025 rules for foreign candidates.

End-to-End Application Support

UW does not admit students to the university as a whole. It admits them program by program. A candidate is admitted when they reach the qualifying threshold set for a program and fall within its seat limit. The competition is therefore local to each program.

The aggregators behind the 20-30% figure acknowledge this. uniRank notes that admission policy and acceptance rate vary by field, degree level and nationality, and refers readers to UW's admission office. EduRank says its 25% figure is its own calculation from admissions, applications and other circumstantial enrollment data.

How the 28% figure is calculated

UW publishes a results summary every July. Here is the official picture for the last three cycles.

Admission cycleCandidates (people)RegistrationsSeats offered / qualified
2024-2530,26156,00924,687 seats offered
2025-2632,000+61,000+21,562 seats offered
2026-27 (preliminary)38,80076,900about 21,600 qualified

For 2024-25, 30,261 people registered in UW's online system and made 56,009 registrations, against 19,899 full-time and 4,788 part-time seats. For 2025-26, more than 32,000 candidates made over 61,000 registrations for a total of 21,562 places. In 2026, 38,800 candidates made and paid for 76,900 registrations, and about 17,300 people qualified for bachelor's and long-cycle programs, plus 4,300 for master's programs.

Dividing about 21,600 qualified candidates by 76,900 registrations gives roughly 28% per application. Measured per person (21,600 of 38,800), about 56% qualified for at least one program. Both numbers are LeapScholar calculations. UW describes the 2026 figures as preliminary and partial.

Counselor insight: Students often read "28%" as their personal chance. It isn't. One student registering for four programs counts four times, which is why the per-person figure is much higher than the per-application one.

University of Warsaw Acceptance Rate by Program

The overall University of Warsaw acceptance rate hides huge differences between programs. UW publishes candidates-per-seat ratios, which convert directly into implied admission odds.

Program (full-time)2025-26 applicants per seat2026-27 applicants per seatImplied 2026-27 rate
Medicine (long-cycle, Polish)23.9532.78 (1,967 for 60 seats)about 3.1%
Business and Management (bachelor's)22.1826.23 (1,049 for 40 seats)about 3.8%
Japanese Studies (bachelor's)20.4419.12 (478 for 25 seats)about 5.2%

UW's 2026 results list medicine at 32.78 applicants per seat, Business and Management at 26.23 and Japanese studies at 19.12. The previous cycle's figures were 23.95, 22.18 and 20.44 respectively.

Popularity by volume is a different measure. Economics-related programs drew 3,494 registrations, management 3,142 and psychology 2,943. Score cut-offs tell a similar story. In the 2025 first round, computer science had the highest threshold at 90.36 points, followed by Japanese studies at 88.55.

A caveat applies to all of this. UW's bachelor's admissions are based on Polish matura exam results, with extra entrance exams for a few programs. These ratios mainly describe the Polish applicant pool. If you are weighing UW against other options, compare it with the top universities in Poland.

Counselor insight: If your only application is Business and Management, you are betting everything on a line under 4%. Register a second program in a related field. It adds only one extra application fee.

Does the University of Warsaw Acceptance Rate Apply to Indian Students?

Only partly. The headline numbers come mostly from Polish candidates competing on matura scores. Indian applicants to English-taught programs are assessed on program-specific criteria and, since 2025, on extra legal requirements. UW also notes that admissions for English-taught programs can run on different dates, set out per program in the Rector's ordinance. In our research, we found no separate University of Warsaw acceptance rate published for Indian or non-EU applicants.

Indian NEET students often confuse two institutions. The University of Warsaw (UW) and the Medical University of Warsaw (WUM) are separate universities. The English-taught, paid medicine program, with 150 seats in its English Division, belongs to WUM. UW's medicine figures above come from its Polish-language admissions.

Counselor insight: Before you write a single line of your SOP, confirm which university actually runs the program on its own admissions portal. We regularly see students who have prepared UW documents for a WUM program.

University of Warsaw Admission Requirements for Indian Students in 2027-28

India is not an EU, EFTA or OECD country, so Indian documents trigger Poland's April 2025 rules. Under that Act, a foreigner applying for bachelor's or long-cycle studies with a school certificate from such a country must provide three things: written information from the director of NAWA about the certificate, proof of B2 knowledge of the teaching language, and a positive entrance exam result. Master's applicants with a degree from such a country need NAWA's written statement on the diploma and B2 language proof.

NAWA is Poland's national agency for academic exchange, and you apply to it online. NAWA issues these statements after a complete application in its SYRENA system, as a digitally signed PDF in Polish, free of charge.

For English proficiency, candidates covered by the Act must submit a document from the ministry's list, which includes TOEFL iBT with at least 72 points. Under the same 2025 regulation, IELTS requires at least 5.5 points. Duolingo is not on the list; see Duolingo accepted universities in Poland. Individual programs may set higher scores, so check each program's page on IRK, UW's online application portal. These rules come from the 2026-27 cycle; UW had not published its 2027-28 admission rules at the time of writing.

DocumentWhat UW asks forIndia-specific details
Class 12 certificate and marksheetSchool-leaving certificate giving access to higher educationCBSE, CISCE or State Board. Legalisation route
NAWA written statementRequired for Indian certificates and degreesApply via SYRENA with scans once board results are out
B2 English certificateDocument from the ministerial listIELTS 5.5+ or TOEFL iBT 72+. Home editions are not accepted
Entrance exam result (bachelor's)Positive resultFormat varies by program
Bachelor's degree and transcripts (master's)Diploma plus NAWA statementThe ministry list also accepts official confirmation that your whole degree was taught in English. Confirm with UW before relying on it
TranslationsSworn translation where required-
Passport and photoIdentity documentsPassport should be valid well beyond your intended visa period
Application fee proofIf requestedPaid per program through IRK

Counselor insight: Missing a document is the less common problem. The common one is timing. Indian board results arrive in May and UW's main round closes in July, so the NAWA application has to go in the week your results are out.

University of Warsaw Fees and Application Costs in INR

Applying is cheap. UW's application fee is 85 PLN per program, or 100 PLN where a written exam, oral exam or interview is required. That works out to Rs.2,136 (85 PLN) or Rs.2,513 (100 PLN) per program. Refunds are possible in set cases, for example if a program does not open because too few candidates applied. Students without a Polish ID number also pay 22 PLN for a student card after qualifying, which is Rs.553 (22 PLN).

Tuition is the bigger cost. UW's 2026-27 fee list sets non-EU fees per program. The table below shows selected programs. These are the latest published fees, so verify the 2027-28 figures once UW releases them.

ProgramAnnual fee for non-EU students
Business and ManagementRs.4,28,000 (โ‚ฌ4,000)
International Relations (bachelor's or master's)Rs.4,60,100 (โ‚ฌ4,300)
International Business ProgramRs.4,49,400 (โ‚ฌ4,200)
Data Science and Business AnalyticsRs.5,24,300 (โ‚ฌ4,900)
Machine LearningRs.3,53,100 (โ‚ฌ3,300)
English StudiesRs.2,35,400 (โ‚ฌ2,200)
Cognitive ScienceRs.5,35,269 (21,300 PLN)
Psychology (long-cycle)Rs.6,93,588 (27,600 PLN)

Exchange rate used: Rs.25.13 per PLN; Rs.107 per EUR. Verify the current rate before finalising your budget.

Budget for living costs too; see cost of living in Poland. To compare UW with cheaper options, see the cheapest universities in the world.

Counselor insight: Families often compare only tuition. Poland's visa application also requires proof of living funds, so plan both amounts before you pay any application fee.

What to Do If Your University of Warsaw Application Goes Wrong

You missed the July round. UW runs a later round for programs with vacant seats. In 2026, September registration closed on 10 September, with results on 22 September. Securing a visa before October from that date is very tight.

Your board results are delayed. In 2026, candidates had until 14 July to enter exam results in their accounts. Email UW's admissions office as soon as a delay seems likely.

Your NAWA statement is not ready. Contact UW admissions immediately.

Your IELTS score is below 5.5. Retake it, or consider TOEFL iBT (72+ required). Duolingo is not accepted.

You did not qualify. Check the second round for vacant seats, and apply in parallel to other Polish universities.

Your program did not open. UW allows fee refunds when a program is not opened due to insufficient candidates.

Your visa is at risk on funds. The VFS India checklist gives an example of at least 10,912 PLN for a 365-day stay, calculated as 701 PLN a month plus 2,500 PLN for return travel, with accommodation costs on top. That is Rs.2,74,219 (10,912 PLN). See the Poland student visa guide.

Counselor insight: Most rejected Indian applications we review failed on documents or timing rather than grades. Fix the paperwork calendar first.

3 Takeaways on University of Warsaw Acceptance Rate

The University of Warsaw acceptance rate is not one number. What decides your outcome is your program choice and your paperwork. Three takeaways:

  1. Judge your odds from the program's applicants-per-seat ratio, not the 20-30% headline, and register for at least two programs.
  2. Book IELTS (5.5+) or TOEFL iBT (72+) before your boards, and apply for NAWA recognition the week your results arrive.
  3. Aim for the June to July 2027 round, because the September round leaves almost no time for your visa.

Frequently Asked Questions About University of Warsaw Acceptance Rate

  • How much does it cost to apply to the University of Warsaw from India?

Each program costs Rs.2,136 (85 PLN) to apply, or Rs.2,513 (100 PLN) if it includes an exam or interview. On top of that, budget for your IELTS or TOEFL fee, document legalisation, and translations. NAWA's recognition statement is free.

  • What happens if I miss the University of Warsaw July deadline?

UW runs a September round for programs that still have vacant seats. In 2026 that registration closed on 10 September, with results on 22 September. The main risk for Indian students is the visa, since obtaining a Polish D visa before early October from a late September result is very difficult.

  • Is the University of Warsaw the same as the Medical University of Warsaw?

They are separate universities. The English-taught medicine program Indian NEET students look for is run by the Medical University of Warsaw (WUM), which offered 150 English Division seats in 2025. UW's medicine program sits within its Polish-language admissions and is among its most competitive.

  • Is IELTS mandatory for the University of Warsaw?

You need a certificate from Poland's ministerial list, and IELTS with at least 5.5 is one accepted option. TOEFL iBT with at least 72 points is another. Home editions are not accepted, and individual programs may set higher requirements. Master's applicants should check whether proof of an English-taught degree is accepted instead.

  • Does the University of Warsaw accept Duolingo?

Duolingo does not appear on the ministerial list UW uses for foreign candidates covered by the April 2025 Act, which includes Indian applicants. Plan for IELTS Academic, TOEFL iBT or a Cambridge qualification instead, and book the test early so your score is ready before IRK registration opens in June 2027.

  • What is the University of Warsaw acceptance rate for international students?

UW does not publish a separate rate for international students. Aggregators estimate 20-30% overall. Official 2026 data suggests about 28% of registrations qualified, but that pool is mostly Polish candidates. For Indian applicants, the more reliable guide is the program's applicants-per-seat ratio and whether you meet the NAWA, B2 and entrance-exam requirements.

  • What is NAWA recognition, and do Indian students need it?

NAWA is Poland's National Agency for Academic Exchange. Since 2025, Indian applicants to UW's bachelor's, long-cycle and master's programs need NAWA's written statement on their certificate or degree. The statement is free, issued online as a signed PDF in Polish, and has no fixed turnaround time.

  • Does the University of Warsaw accept Indian Class 12 marks?

It does, with extra steps. Indian certificates need a written statement from NAWA, Poland's recognition agency, obtained through its online SYRENA system. Bachelor's applicants also need B2 English proof and a positive result in UW's entrance exam for the chosen program. Apply to NAWA as soon as your board results are published.

  • Is the University of Warsaw hard to get into?

It depends entirely on the program. Medicine had about 33 applicants per seat in 2026 and Business and Management about 26, which implies odds under 4%. Many other programs are far less crowded. For Indian applicants, meeting the 2025 document rules is often the bigger hurdle than competition.
