Duolingo Accepted Universities in Poland: The Short Answer for 2027-28
If you hold an Indian passport and an Indian qualification, there are effectively no Duolingo accepted universities in Poland for the 2027-28 intake. Polish law now restricts non-EU applicants to a fixed catalogue of language documents set by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and the Duolingo English Test is not in it.

The clearest proof sits on the University of Wrocลaw's admissions site, which publishes two separate tables. The table for candidates from outside the EU lists Cambridge, IELTS, Trinity College London, TOEFL iBT, TOEIC, Pearson, LanguageCert, LCCI and telc, along with diploma-based exemptions. Duolingo does not appear anywhere in it. The table for EU, EEA and Swiss citizens, further down the same page, does include the Duolingo English Test. Same university, same programs, two different rules, and Indian students fall on the side where Duolingo does not count.
Private universities are not a workaround. Vistula University answers the question in its own FAQ with a single word: no. It accepts internationally recognised certificates such as IELTS, TOEFL and TOEIC instead.
This is not a case of a few universities choosing differently. It is national policy, and it applies to public and private institutions alike.
Counselor insight: Before you spend anything, check which table on the university's language page applies to you. Students skim the first table they see, which is almost always the EU one, and conclude that their test is fine. Read to the bottom of the page and look for the heading that mentions non-EU candidates or the ministerial regulation.
What Changed in Polish Law, and When
Poland rebuilt its student admission rules in 2025 to stop misuse of the student visa route.
Two instruments matter. The first is the Act of 4 April 2025 amending certain acts in order to eliminate irregularities in the visa system of the Republic of Poland, which introduced additional recruitment requirements for foreign candidates holding documents issued outside the EU, OECD, EFTA and EEA. The second is the Regulation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of 30 July 2025 on the types of documents confirming knowledge of the language of instruction, published in the Journal of Laws as item 1045.
The practical effects, as Polish universities themselves describe them:
- A minimum of B2 in the language of instruction is now mandatory for all candidates and all programs, verified across four skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking.
- Universities can no longer rely on internal interviews or informal placement tests. Admission is based exclusively on documents listed in the official ministerial catalogue.
- The rules came into force at the end of July 2025 and apply nationwide, introduced by government policy rather than by individual universities.
- The B2 requirement is verified during university admissions and again checked by Polish consulates when issuing visas.
The University of Wrocลaw told applicants ahead of the change that the Duolingo English Test would probably no longer be accepted and recommended IELTS, TOEFL, Pearson and Cambridge as the visa-safe options. The published non-EU list confirms what happened.
Counselor insight: Because the consulate re-checks language proficiency, a workaround at admission stage does not survive the visa stage. Students who get an offer on a document outside the catalogue can still be refused later, which is the worst possible point to discover the problem.

Two rules in the fine print catch Indian students out. First, only certificates testing all four skills are accepted, so if your exam let you choose components, you must have taken all of them. Second, Wrocลaw states that certificates cannot be older than three years, which is stricter than the two-year validity most tests carry.

Why So Many Websites still list Duolingo Accepted Universities in Poland
Almost every list you will find naming Duolingo accepted universities in Poland was written before August 2025 and never updated.
Three things keep the confusion alive. Polish universities did accept the Duolingo English Test from non-EU applicants in earlier cycles, so the old pages were once accurate. Global directories and aggregator listicles update slowly, so institutions still appear on Duolingo-friendly lists long after their national rules change. And several universities keep publishing two tables on one page, one for EU citizens and one for everyone else, so a page that genuinely does mention Duolingo can be quoted out of context.
You will see specific figures repeated across sites, such as Vistula University at 95 or a general Poland minimum of 120. Neither is supported by an official Polish source today, and Vistula's own FAQ contradicts the first one outright.
What this Costs Indian Students in Rupees
The financial evidence for a Polish student visa is set in zลoty. Under the rules published on the European Commission's immigration portal, a single student must show financial resources exceeding Rs.19,602 (776 PLN) per month after deduction of residence costs, plus Rs.63,150 (2,500 PLN) for return travel when arriving from a non-EU country. Accommodation costs sit on top of the monthly figure rather than inside it, so a student paying dormitory charges must show those as well.
On the test itself, switching from Duolingo to a listed exam is the main added cost. IELTS and TOEFL in India cost several times what the Duolingo English Test does, and unlike Duolingo they require a test centre visit and a booked slot. Budget for the fee, travel to the centre and a possible retake rather than the fee alone.

What to Do if You Already Booked or Paid for Duolingo
You paid but have not sat the test. Do not cancel out of frustration. The Duolingo English Test is valid in dozens of other destinations, so use it for applications to Ireland, the Netherlands, the UK or the USA and book a listed test for Poland separately.
You already have a Duolingo score. It will not satisfy the Polish requirement for a non-EU applicant. Book IELTS, TOEFL, PTE Academic or a Cambridge exam now, and treat the Duolingo score as a backup for other countries. Your certificate did not test all four skills. It will be rejected even if the exam itself is on the list. Retake with all components selected.
Your certificate is more than three years old. Universities such as Wrocลaw will not accept it. Check the age limit on the specific university page, not the test provider's validity rule.
You missed NAWA recognition. Recognition is now mandatory for Indian qualifications, so an application without it stalls. Start it immediately and speak to the admissions office about a later intake rather than assuming your file will be processed.
Your Indian marksheets are delayed. Apply with provisional documents where permitted, and tell the admissions office in writing before the deadline rather than after it.
