Note on the University of Georgia QS ranking: The 1401+ band belongs to UG in Tbilisi (ug.edu.ge). The University of Georgia (UGA) in the US state of Georgia is a separate institution with its own rankings.

My insight: A band like 1401+ is a floor, not a score. For MBBS, NMC compliance and hospital tie-ups matter far more than a QS band.

Based in Tbilisi, TSU was the first national university in the Caucasus and has 7 faculties.

• Scholarships: Not applicable while admission is closed.
• Eligibility: Regular admission is closed; entry only through exchange or bilateral agreements.
• Best for: Exchange students in sciences, law, and humanities.

Founded in 1922 in Tbilisi, GTU is Georgia’s largest engineering and technology university. It has 13 faculties and 168 programs, and has been a member of the European University Association since 2001.

• Scholarships: Not available for closed admissions.
• Eligibility: Entry only through exchange or bilateral agreements.
• Best for: Engineering and IT exchange students.

UG is a private university in central Tbilisi. It teaches MD, dentistry, business, IT, and nursing in English, and one master's offers an optional UC Berkeley semester.

• Scholarships: None for international applicants; high-GPA students may receive incentives later.
• Eligibility: Class 12 certificate for bachelor's or MD, plus UG's online English and program tests. Indian MD applicants also need NEET for NMC eligibility.
• Best for: MBBS, BBA, or IT students wanting two intakes a year.

Ilia State is a public research university in Tbilisi, set up in 2006. It has topped Georgia in the Times Higher Education rankings every year from 2023 to 2026.

• Scholarships: Not applicable while admission is closed.
• Eligibility: Entry only through exchange or bilateral agreements.
• Best for: Research-focused exchange students.

CU is a private university in Tbilisi that also runs programs in Batumi. It's known for business education and joint bachelor's degrees with Rennes School of Business (France) and Kean University (US).

You might find this resourceful, if you are considering the best European countries to study further down the line, Europe's QS regional ranking in 2026 put CU at 656th among universities in Georgia.

• Scholarships: The Top Three Students Award pays for 100%, 50%, or 30% of tuition for the top three students at every school.
• Eligibility: Class 12 certificate (or bachelor’s for master’s) IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 78 Video interview.
• Best for: BBA, computer science, AI, and cybersecurity students.

GAU is a private university in Tbilisi with five schools, including business, informatics, and medicine. It also runs a double-degree MBA with IPAG Business School in France.

• Scholarships: None for international students
• Eligibility: Academic transcripts and B2-level English, shown through a recognized test or GAU's video interview. Indian MD applicants also need NEET.
• Best for: MBBS aspirants and MBA or cyber security students.

DTMU began in 1989 as AIETI Medical School, Georgia's first non-governmental medical institution. Based in Tbilisi, it has offered a problem-based learning MD since 2014-15.

• Scholarships: None listed for international students; contact admissions directly.
• Eligibility: At least 60% overall in chemistry and biology, a NEET pass (for Indians), a B1 English certificate, and an online interview.
• Best for: MBBS aspirants who prefer a medicine-only university.

Only through narrow exceptions; older lists of the best universities in Georgia, topped by TSU or TSMU, are outdated.

• In December 2025, Education Minister Givi Mikanadze said state universities would stop admitting foreign students, except via bilateral agreements, exchanges, or special programs.
• Private universities stay open. Only 19 of Georgia's 64 higher education institutions are state-run, per the minister.
• A June 2026 bill would require language certificates from foreign applicants; please confirm the final rule.

My insight: Offered a "confirmed seat" at TSU or TSMU? Ask which exception it falls under and ask for the Ministry of Education enrollment order. No order, no study visa.

In Georgia, MBBS is called an MD (Doctor of Medicine), and most Indian students apply to UG, GAU, or DTMU. But a Georgian MD alone won't make you a doctor in India. India's National Medical Commission (NMC) lets you register only if your course meets its FMGL Regulations 2021. Check every rule below before you compare fees.

My insight: Ask for the MD duration in months, on university letterhead. The NMC counts months, not the phrase "six-year program."

Your cost has two parts: yearly tuition paid to the university and rent, food, and bills in Tbilisi. For an MD at GAU, tuition alone comes to Rs.37.17 lakh (GEL 100,699) over six years. Scholarships for new Indian students are rare, so plan the full amount from savings or a loan.

UG's page has shown both $6,000 and $6,500 for MD; please confirm the amount on your offer letter.

My insight: MD tuition at GAU alone is Rs.37.17 lakh (GEL 100,699) for six years, excluding rent and food. Consider the cost of living as a full line item, not “little extras.”

My insight: Start your MEA apostille the week the Class 12 results come out. The queue gets longer every July.

September (fall) is the main intake at the best universities in Georgia, especially for MD. Some also run a spring intake: UG admits international students in fall and spring with no fixed deadline, though registration can take up to two months.

Three things to hold on to before you start applying:

1. Apply to private universities for 2027. State universities will only take you through an exchange.
2. If it's MBBS, check the course length, internship, and teaching language against NMC rules before you pay anything.
3. Plan for six years of rent and food as well as tuition, and get your MEA apostille done as soon as Class 12 results are out.
