Best Courses to Study Abroad After 12th Science
Universities abroad look at school marks, SAT scores, and English proficiency. JEE and NEET ranks barely register. For a PCM or PCB student who missed those cutoffs by a narrow margin, that alone changes the calculation.

"Germany is free" needs a footnote. RWTH Aachen and most public universities charge no tuition. TU Munich charges EUR 4,000-12,000/year for non-EU students from 2024, while Baden-Württemberg (KIT) charges EUR 3,000/year.
Also: Class 12 alone usually does not get direct entry to a German bachelor's. Most students need a year of Studienkolleg first, or a year at an Indian university, or to take JEE Advanced. German-taught degrees typically require C1 German, not B1.
| Country | Top Universities | Approx. Annual Tuition | Post-Study Work |
|---|---|---|---|
| USA | MIT, Stanford, Georgia Tech | $55,000 - $79,000 (Rs. 52.83-75.88 lakh) | 1-3 years OPT (STEM) |
| Germany | RWTH Aachen | EUR 0, semester fee only (Rs.0-0.82 lakh) | 18-month job-seeker visa |
| Canada | University of Toronto, Waterloo | CAD 45,000-65,000 (Rs.33.31-48.12 lakh) | Up to 3 years PGWP |
| Australia | University of Melbourne, UNSW | AUD 35,000-50,000 (Rs. 23.49-33.56 lakh) | 2-4 years post-study visa |
Tuition sources: MIT, Stanford, Georgia Tech, TU Munich, RWTH Aachen, University of Toronto, Waterloo, University of Melbourne, UNSW.
Salary figure: NACE Salary Survey 2026.
Note: Software engineers coming out of US programs are pulling $94,212 to $130,000+ (Rs.90.49 lakh-1.24 crore) as a starting salary. That figure comes from NACE's 2026 survey, not a guess.

My insight: I tell every PCM student the same thing. TU Munich and RWTH Aachen beat plenty of American state schools on employer surveys, and nobody in India knows that. Most master's programs run entirely in English. Undergrads need B1 German, which is doable in a year if you actually put the work in. The language thing scares people off way more than it should.
Medicine (MBBS) Abroad
NEET qualification is mandatory to practise in India after any foreign MBBS, per NMC's FMGL 2021 rules, separate from whether you got a seat at home. Foreign universities may admit you without it, but NMC won't let you register in India without it.
If your NEET rank didn't get an affordable Indian seat, MBBS abroad remains real, though not every country falls under Rs.50 lakh.
| Country | Approx. Total Fees (6 years) | NMC Recognition | Exam After Return |
|---|---|---|---|
| Russia | RUB 1,500,000-2,200,000 (Rs. 17.10-25.08 lakh) | Yes | FMGE (phasing to NExT) |
| Philippines | PHP 800,000-1,200,000 (Rs. 12.24-18.36 lakh) | Yes | NExT |
| Georgia | GEL 120,000-180,000 (Rs. 46.78-70.16 lakh) | Yes | NExT |
| Germany | EUR 0-30,000 (Rs. 0-32.69 lakh) total for 6 years, at roughly EUR 0-5,000/year | Yes | NExT after return |
| Bangladesh | $25,000 - $35,000 (Rs.24.01-33.62 lakh) | Yes, verify per university | FMGE (phasing to NExT) |
| China | CNY 150,000-250,000 (Rs. 21.45-35.75 lakh) | Yes (select universities) | NExT |
Tuition source: NMC India, Approved Foreign Medical Universities.
Note: NMC does not publish foreign tuition data; confirm the information on each university's page.
Here is the part nobody mentions in the brochure: FMGE/NExT pass rates for students coming back from these programs have hovered under 30% historically. Russia and the Philippines have the most NMC-recognised universities, which is crucial if you plan to practise in India.
My insight: China MBBS keeps coming up because the fees look attractive on paper. What families skip checking is the NExT pass rate for that exact university, not the country average. I have seen the difference between two Chinese universities be huge. Check the pass rate before the fee, not after.
Computer Science
About 280,000 job openings a year in US computer and IT occupations, per the current BLS Outlook. CS grads start around $94,212 per NACE.
| Country | Top Universities | Approx. Annual Tuition | Key Advantage |

Best Courses to Study Abroad After 12th Commerce
Finance, business, accounting, economics. All of it is in demand globally, and commerce students usually hear that far fewer options exist than actually do.
MBA Abroad
Two to five years of work experience is the entry ticket for most MBA programs abroad, and Indian applicants with that background are in a strong position. Here is where the money and the reputation both stack up:
| University | Country | Total Program Fee | Key Strength |
|---|---|---|---|
| Harvard Business School | USA | $155,000 (Rs. 1.48 crore) approx. | IB, consulting, VC |
| INSEAD | France/Singapore | EUR 102,000 (Rs. 1.11 crore) | 1-year MBA; global network |
| London Business School | UK | GBP 107,000 (Rs. 1.35 crore) | Finance, London market |
| Wharton, UPenn | USA | $169,000 (Rs. 1.36 crore) approx. | Finance, entrepreneurship |
| ISB Hyderabad | India/Global | Rs.40-55 lakh | Strong ROI, India-focused |
Tuition sources: HBS, INSEAD, LBS, Wharton, ISB.
GMAC's 2025 recruiter survey put the number at 89% of employers globally planning to hire MBA graduates this year, and starting salaries at the top US programs are already crossing $105,000 (Rs.1.00 crore+). Fresh graduates without work experience should look at MS Finance or MS Business Analytics instead. The MBA door mostly stays shut until you have logged those years.
Finance and Accounting
Investment banking, consulting, and corporate treasury: this career path is the track for commerce students chasing those roles.
| Country | Top Universities | Approx. Fee | Post-Grad Role |
|---|---|---|---|
| USA | MIT Sloan MFin, McCombs MSF | $59,700 - $96,884 (Rs. 57.39-93.06 lakh) total | Financial Analyst, IB Analyst |
| UK | LSE Finance, Imperial Finance | GBP 26,000-42,000 (Rs. 33.04-53.37 lakh) per year | Asset Management, Consulting |
| Singapore | NUS, NTU Finance | SGD 30,000-45,000 (Rs. 22.52-33.78 lakh) | Regional banking |
Tuition sources: MIT Sloan MFin, McCombs MSF, LSE Finance, Imperial Finance.

Best Courses to Study Abroad After 12th Arts
Arts students get overlooked in these conversations far too often. Law and psychology in particular stay oversubscribed year after year at UK and US universities, and for good reason.
Law
A UK LLB takes three years, and you can start right after 12th. It carries recognition across Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and the Commonwealth, which few degrees can claim. The USA does things differently: law is postgraduate only, so a JD requires a completed bachelor's first.
Corporate lawyers at the big US firms clear $170,000+ (Rs.1.63 crore+), and that number is straight from BLS data, not a firm's own marketing. Median US lawyer pay is $151,160 per BLS 2025; big-firm starting pay runs higher, better sourced to NALP.
| Country | Program | Approx. Fee | Top Universities |
|---|---|---|---|
| UK | LLB (3 years) | GBP 20,000-30,000 (Rs. 25.42-38.12 lakh) per year | Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, King's College London |
| USA | JD (post-grad, 3 years) | $60,000 - $77,000 (Rs. 57.63-73.96 lakh) per year | Harvard, Yale, Columbia |
| Australia | LLB / JD | AUD 25,000-40,000 (Rs. 16.78-26.84 lakh) per year | Melbourne, ANU, Sydney |
Tuition sources: Oxford Law, Cambridge Law, UCL Laws, Harvard Law. Salary data: BLS Lawyers Outlook.

Psychology
Admissions run on critical thinking and writing ability. The BLS projects 6% employment growth for psychologists from 2024 to 2034 (corrected: the 12% figure was from an older 2022-2032 projection cycle that BLS has since updated), still faster than the average for all occupations.
| Country | Top Universities | Approx. Annual Tuition | Strength |
|---|---|---|---|
| UK | Oxford, Cambridge, University of Edinburgh | GBP 18,000-28,000 (Rs. 22.87-35.58 lakh) | Research depth, BPS accreditation |
| Canada | University of Toronto, UBC | CAD 25,000-40,000 (Rs. 18.51-29.61 lakh) | PR pathway via Express Entry |
| Australia | University of Melbourne, University of Queensland | AUD 28,000-40,000 (Rs. 18.79-26.84 lakh) | Clinical accreditation, PR pathway |
Tuition sources: University of Edinburgh Psychology, University of Queensland Psychology. Employment data: BLS Psychologists Outlook.

Best Courses to Study Abroad After Graduation
Once you finish your degree, your stream stops mattering. What you want your career to look like takes over.
Data Science and Analytics
BLS projects 33.5% growth for data scientists from 2024 to 2034, and this field doesn't require a degree. Economics grads, statistics grads, and commerce grads with decent quant skills get into the same programs as CS students routinely.
| Country | Top Universities | Total Fee | Starting Salary |
|---|---|---|---|
| USA | Columbia, Carnegie Mellon, UC Berkeley | $50,000 - $80,000 (Rs. 48.03-76.84 lakh) | $96,494 (Rs.92.68 lakh) median |
| Canada | UBC, University of Toronto | CAD 30,000-50,000 (Rs. 22.21-37.02 lakh) | CAD 80,000-110,000 (Rs.59.22-81.43 lakh) |
| UK | Imperial, University of Edinburgh, Warwick | GBP 20,000-35,000 (Rs. 25.42-44.48 lakh) per year | GBP 45,000-70,000 (Rs.57.19-88.96 lakh) |
Tuition sources: Columbia Data Science, Carnegie Mellon MSDS, Imperial Data Science, Warwick Data Science. Salary data: Glassdoor Data Science Salaries 2025.
Are you set on the USA for your MS in Data Science? LeapScholar's full guide has the universities, STEM OPT details, and eligibility.
My insight: BCom and BA Economics students from India are landing at Columbia and Carnegie Mellon for data science now and doing well there. Their stats foundation carries them. If you wrote the program off as an engineer-only field, go back and check the actual admission requirements. They have loosened up more than many people realise.
Business Analytics
You get MBA-level outcomes without the years of work experience. That is the pitch for a master's in business analytics, and it holds up.
| Country | Top Universities | Approx. Total Fee | Key Advantage |
|---|---|---|---|
| USA | UT Austin McCombs MSBA, USC Marshall MSBA | $45,000 - $60,000 (Rs. 43.22-62.43 lakh) | STEM-designated, 36-month OPT |
| UK | Warwick, Imperial | GBP 25,000-35,000 (Rs. 31.77-44.48 lakh) per year | Strong analytics placements |
| Canada | University of Toronto, UBC | CAD 30,000-45,000 (Rs.25.91-37.02 lakh) | PGWP up to 3 years |
Tuition sources: McCombs MSBA, USC Marshall MSBA.

How to Choose Your Course and Country?
- First, your stream is a starting point, not a fixed path. A BCom graduate can land in data science at Columbia.
- Second, the real budget is never just tuition. Add rent, food, visa, and insurance, and confirm which German state or UK deadline group applies before comparing countries.
- Third, the course and country must point the same way. The right course in the wrong country costs years. Check post-study work rights and current PR priorities before committing.

Frequently Asked Questions About Best Courses to Study Abroad
-
What are the best courses to study abroad for Indian students?
Engineering and CS provide the broadest job market. Medicine works if you missed a seat but qualified for NEET. Data science is currently the most flexible option.
-
Is NEET required for MBBS abroad?
Yes, unconditionally, to practise in India. NMC's FMGL 2021 requires NEET qualification before enrolling abroad, regardless of the foreign university's own rules.
-
What are the best courses after 12th in science?
PCM students should look at Engineering and CS; Germany is worth it outside Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. PCB students who qualified for NEET but missed a seat usually go for MBBS abroad, with Russia and the Philippines being the cheapest.
-
Can I study in Germany directly after 12th?
Usually not for a German-taught bachelor's. Most need a year of Studienkolleg first, unless they have JEE Advanced or Indian university experience already.
-
What are the best courses after 12th commerce?
BBA, Finance, and Accounting at the undergrad level in the UK/USA hold up well. An MBA requires 2-5 years of experience, so fresh graduates should instead pursue an MS in Finance or an MS in Business Analytics.
-
Which is the best country after 12th?
The USA wins on depth, loses on cost. Germany suits engineering outside Bavaria/Baden-Württemberg. The UK is well-suited for law and finance; please check the Oxbridge deadline of 15 October. Canada balances cost and post-study work.
-
What is the best country for MBBS abroad?
Russia and the Philippines lead on cost, provided you've qualified for NEET. Georgia has grown but costs more. Germany is almost free, but you need German fluency, which most students lack by 12th grade.
-
What are the best MBA colleges abroad for Indian students?
Harvard, Wharton, LBS, and INSEAD are at the top of most lists. Returning to India? First, compare against ISB Hyderabad.
-
Which courses abroad lead to PR?
Engineering, CS, data science, and nursing show up on skilled-occupation lists in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Healthcare's rising weight in Canada's Express Entry draws make nursing worth considering.
