NTU Singapore Acceptance Rate 2026-27: The Real Entry Bar for Indian Students

Quick Read

  • NTU Singapore does not publish an official acceptance rate.
  • Indian Standard 12 applicants need at least 90% overall.
  • That 90% excludes languages, Home Science, Art and Fashion Design.
  • JEE-Main is not required; JEE-Advanced ranking is valued.
  • Non-subsidised tuition runs SGD 36,350 to SGD 45,600 yearly.

What Is the NTU Singapore Acceptance Rate?

There is no official NTU Singapore acceptance rate. Nanyang Technological University does not publish one, and the figures circulating online were never calculated by the university.

What NTU does publish, on the same page where you would expect a percentage, is a warning. Its India Standard 12 admissions page states plainly that admission is highly competitive, especially for non-citizens, due to limited places available, that the admission point varies from year to year and between different programs; and that meeting the minimum requirements to apply does not guarantee admission to any of the programs in NTU (NTU India Standard 12).

End-to-End Application Support

The closest thing NTU has to published selectivity data is its Indicative Grade Profile. That document covers only applicants presenting Singapore-Cambridge GCE A-Level results or a Singapore polytechnic diploma. Indian Standard 12 does not appear in it at all. NTU also attaches its own caveat to the IGP, noting that grade profiles may vary from year to year depending on the number and performance of applicants and the number of places available, and that meeting the previous year's grade or GPA does not guarantee admission for the current year.

If you are still deciding between destinations rather than universities, our study in Singapore guide for Indian students sets out the wider picture.

Counselor insight: Searching an acceptance rate is almost always self-assessment rather than research. The risk with NTU specifically is self-elimination. A student with 92% reads "36% acceptance rate" on an aggregator, decides a top-15 world university is out of reach, and never applies, even though they clear NTU's published bar. Check yourself against the actual number further down this page before you write NTU off.

The Number NTU Actually Publishes for Indian Students

Indian Standard 12 applicants need at least 90% in all subjects. That is the published minimum to apply, and it is calculated differently from the aggregate printed on your marksheet.

RequirementOfficial standardWhat this means for you
Academic minimumAt least 90% in all subjects including English, but excluding other languages and technical subjects such as Home Science, Art and Fashion Design, in the Standard 12 Board examYour Hindi, Sanskrit, French, Home Science, Art or Fashion Design marks do not count towards this
EnglishRequired within the 90%English is explicitly included, unlike your second language
English proficiency testNot required if English was your medium of studies. NTU states that taking a test in this case will not enhance your chancesMost CBSE, ICSE and English-medium state board students need no test at all
English test alternatives (if English was a second language)IELTS overall 6.0 with 6 in Writing and speaking; TOEFL iBT 90 with 25 Speaking for tests taken before 2026, or overall 4.5 with 4.5 Speaking from January 2026 onwards; SAT 1250; PTE Academic 55 overall with 55 Speaking; ACT with Writing composite 30 in one sitting; C1 Advanced; or IGCSE O-Level English at first language, grade A or 7 of 9Note the changed TOEFL scale for 2026 tests
NTU Entrance ExaminationNot required for India Standard 12You are exempt
Mathematics prerequisiteFor accountancy, business, communication studies, economics, psychology, sport science and management, and mathematics at Standard 12 is required if additional mathematics does not appear on your standard 10 result slip. India Standard 10 Mathematics is not equivalent to Additional MathematicsThis disqualifies many commerce and humanities applicants who dropped Maths
Mathematics, stricter casesFor Applied Computing in Finance, any science program or double major requiring Senior High Mathematics, business mathematics, or Applied Mathematics at Standard 12 is insufficientCore Mathematics is needed, not the business variant
Improvement ExamAll previously taken subjects must be retaken in the same sitting. NTU does not combine three subjects from a 2026 Improvement exam with two taken earlierA partial improvement attempt will not be counted
Olympiad direct admissionMedallists of the International Science Olympiads in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Informatics, Astronomy, Astronomy and Astrophysics, Artificial Intelligence and Nuclear Science are considered more favourably for related programmes. Indian-conducted Olympiads including iOS, iiO and iOM do not countOnly the genuine international rounds qualify

Counselor insight: The Additional Mathematics rule quietly ends more NTU applications from Indian commerce students than the percentage bar does. If you are eyeing Nanyang Business School or Economics and you dropped Mathematics after Standard 10, check your Standard 10 result slip today. Business Mathematics at Standard 12 will not rescue a Science or Applied Computing in Finance application either

NTU Fees for Indian Students in INR: Both Tracks

Non-subsidised NTU tuition for international students starts at SGD 36,350 per year. What most fee tables online miss is that Indian students have two entirely different price tracks, and the gap between them is larger than most families expect.

Program bandWith MOE Tuition Grant (per year)Without Tuition Grant (per year)
Most programs, lab-basedSGD 21,400 (Rs.16,13,132)SGD 40,600 (Rs.30,60,428)
Most programs, non-lab-basedSGD 21,400 (Rs.16,13,132)SGD 36,350 (Rs.27,40,063)
Accountancy, Business, Applied Computing in Finance and related double degreesSGD 21,800 (Rs.16,43,284)SGD 45,600 (Rs.34,37,328)
Medicine (LKCMedicine)SGD 91,250 (Rs.68,78,425)Not offered

Figures are NTU's official AY2026 rates for students accepting a program offer in 2026, inclusive of the prevailing 9% GST for international students. Your annual rate is fixed at the 2026 level for the duration of your degree.

On a lab-based program, the tuition grant saves you Rs.14,47,296 a year, or roughly Rs.57.89 lakh across a four-year degree. On the business band the annual saving is Rs.17,94,044. That is not a discount to shrug at.

Tuition is not the whole bill. Living costs, the ICA security deposit that Indian nationals must furnish before the Student's Pass is issued, and visa fees all sit on top. Our guides to the cost of studying in Singapore and Singapore student visa fees break those out, and our Singapore scholarships guide covers what can realistically be shaved off.

Exchange rate used throughout: 1 SGD = Rs.75.38. Verify the current rate before finalising your budget.

Counselor insight: Run the Tuition Grant maths both ways before you reject the bond out of hand. Families instinctively prefer the no-strings column. But if your plan already involves working a few years before an MS or MBA, a Singapore tech or finance job absorbs the obligation and the Rs.57 lakh saving is real money, not a theoretical discount. The families who regret the decision are usually the ones who made it emotionally in July.

NTU Application Timeline for Indian Students

NTU runs one intake per academic year, with term commencing in late July. The AY2026 application window has closed, so the calendar below maps the next cycle.

MonthAction
September to November 2026Shortlist programs. Check your Standard 10 slip for Additional Mathematics if targeting Business, economics, or psychology.
November 2026Book an English test only if English appears as a second language on your transcript
December 2026 to February 2027Application window typically opens. The form must be completed in one session; you cannot save and return
Before applyingPrepare passport number, address, Standard 10 marksheet, Standard 12 marksheet or admit card, and any English test score sheet
At submissionPay the application fee and upload supporting documents. Your file is not processed until both are received
March 2027Standard 12 board exams. If your results will arrive after 1 April, you are not eligible for LKCMedicine or the Renaissance Engineering Programme in that exercise
May to June 2027Results declared. Key in and upload your Standard 12 result slip within 3 days of the official release date via the Check Status link. Miss this and your application is deemed incomplete and will not be processed
June to July 2027Offer decisions. Confirm whether you are accepting with or without the MOE Tuition Grant by the stated deadline
July 2027SOLAR+ Student's Pass application, security deposit arrangement, accommodation
Late July 2027Term commences

The three-day rule is the single most avoidable failure point in this entire process. It is not a soft guideline. Our Singapore study visa guide and the application process walkthrough for UG and PG courses cover the steps after your offer.

Counselor insight: Set a phone alarm for your board result date and a second one for 48 hours later. Every year a handful of Indian students with qualifying scores lose their NTU application because the result came out during a family celebration and nobody logged into Check Status until day four.

What to Do If NTU Rejects You or You Miss the Bar

You are below 90%. NTU is a hard threshold, not a holistic reach. Redirect the application energy to SMU, SUTD or the strong private institutions rather than appealing a published minimum.

Your aggregate clears but the excluding-languages calculation does not. Apply anyway if you have the slot, and treat it as a reach. Have two alternatives already in motion.

You missed the three-day results upload. The application is deemed incomplete and will not be processed. There is no partial credit here. Your realistic option is the next admissions exercise, which is a full year away given the single annual intake.

Your English test band fell short. Retake the specific component rather than the whole test where your provider allows it, and check whether your medium-of-instruction status exempts you entirely before booking anything.

You were rejected outright. NTU says the admission point varies by year and by programme. A rejection from a double degree or double major, which NTU flags as more competitive than single degree programmes, is not the same signal as a rejection from a single degree. Reapplying to a single degree in the next cycle is a legitimate strategy.

You have an offer but the Tuition Grant bond is unacceptable at home. You can accept without the grant. Confirm the full-fee figure for your specific band from the table above and get the education loan file moving before the July acceptance deadline. If the full fee is genuinely out of range, our list of cheaper universities in Singapore is a more useful place to spend the next fortnight than an appeal.

Counselor insight: Because NTU has one intake a year, a lost cycle costs twelve months, not four. That changes the calculus on rushing a weak application. If your file is not ready by the deadline, a deliberate reapplication next cycle usually beats a hurried one now.

3 Takeaways on NTU Singapore Acceptance Rate

Three things to do with what you have read:

  1. Stop looking for an NTU Singapore acceptance rate and recalculate your own percentage instead. Strip out your second language and any technical subject, then check the remainder against 90%. That number decides your application.
  2. Check your Standard 10 result slip for additional mathematics before you shortlist programs. For business, accountancy, economics, and psychology, that prerequisite ends more Indian applications than the percentage bar does.
  3. Put your board result date and a 48-hour follow-up in your calendar now. The three-day upload window voids otherwise qualifying applications every single year.

Frequently Asked Questions About NTU Singapore Acceptance Rate

  • Does a strong SOP or extracurricular profile improve my chances at NTU?

NTU states that the primary factor in the admission decision is high school academic performance and that decisions are made with actual results only. Outside the Olympiad direct-admission route and the aptitude-based admissions framework, there is no documented pathway where a personal statement offsets a board percentage below the published bar.

  • Should I take the MOE Tuition Grant or pay full fees?

The grant cuts a lab-based program from SGD 40,600 to SGD 21,400 a year, saving roughly Rs.14.47 lakh annually, in exchange for a service obligation to work for a Singapore-registered employer after graduation. If your plans already involve working in Singapore or Asia before further study, the maths strongly favours the grant. You must opt in on the admission application form.

  • What happens if my board results are released late?

You must key in and upload your Standard 12 result slip within three calendar days of the official release date via NTU's Check Status link. If you miss it, your application is deemed incomplete and will not be processed. Separately, applicants whose results arrive after 1 April are not eligible for LKCMedicine or the Renaissance Engineering Programme in that admissions exercise.

  • How many intakes does NTU Singapore have?

NTU runs a single intake per academic year for undergraduate admissions, with term commencing in late July. This is a meaningful practical difference from universities offering multiple entry points: a missed deadline or an incomplete file costs a full twelve months rather than a semester. Some postgraduate coursework programs follow different cycles.

  • Can I get into NTU Singapore without IELTS?

If English was your medium of studies, no proficiency test is needed, and NTU states that taking one will not enhance your chances. Most CBSE, ICSE and English-medium state board students fall into this category. A test is only required if English is shown as a second language on your transcript, in which case IELTS 6.0, TOEFL, PTE, SAT or ACT alternatives apply.

  • Is JEE required for admission to NTU Singapore?

JEE-Main is not required, and NTU states it will not enhance your chances of admission. A good ranking in JEE-Advanced is valued. Sitting JEE-Main solely to strengthen an NTU application is wasted effort. There is also no NTU Entrance Examination for India Standard 12 applicants, who are exempt.

  • What percentage do I need in Class 12 for NTU Singapore?

At least 90% in all subjects including English. The calculation excludes other languages and technical subjects such as Home Science, Art and Fashion Design, which makes it stricter than your marksheet aggregate. Recalculate without your second language before assuming you qualify. Some aggregator pages quote 60%, which is incorrect.

  • Is NTU easier to get into than NUS?

Neither university publishes an overall acceptance rate, so the widely quoted comparison of NTU at 36% against NUS at 5-10% is two estimates measured against each other. What is verifiable is that the two set different documented requirements for Indian Standard 12. Compare the published entry criteria and program prerequisites at each rather than trusting a ratio.

  • What is the NTU Singapore acceptance rate for Indian students?

No official figure exists. NTU publishes no acceptance rate for any nationality, and its Indicative Grade Profile covers only Singapore A-Level and polytechnic applicants. The number NTU does publish for Indian applicants is a minimum of 90% in all subjects including English, excluding other languages and technical subjects, in the Standard 12 board exam.
