Year frame used throughout: Winter 2027/28 (applications between early 2027 and July 2027, depending on program), with Summer 2027 as the secondary route. University of Bremen Acceptance Rate: What Is Published and What Is Not
The University of Bremen does not publish one institution-wide acceptance rate. The acceptance rate of University of Bremen you see online is an estimate, and the estimates disagree.
The nearest official data is enrolment, not selection. The university reported that 4,468 new students started in winter 2024/25, with 3,156 in undergraduate and 1,312 in master’s programs. That tells you how many seats were filled, not how many applied.

Counselor insight: When a page quotes one clean percentage for a German public university, ask what it divides by what. Applications, applicants and offers are three different counts.
University of Bremen Acceptance Rate for Masters
Your odds depend mostly on whether your program has restricted or open admission. Bremen's master's page explains that for restricted programs, proof of credits is due by the end of the application period, and for open ones two weeks after lectures start.
| Feature | Restricted-admission master's | Open-admission master's |
|---|---|---|
| Selection | Ranked, limited seats | Admission if requirements are met |
| Competition level | Higher | Lower |
| Credit proof due | By end of application period | Two weeks after lectures start |
| Example | MSc Ecology, limited to 25 students | Programs without a seat cap |
| Who it suits | Strong, subject-matched profiles | Profiles meeting formal rules |
A few programs are small. The MSc Ecology page states that places are limited to 25. That is a very different University of Bremen acceptance rate for masters from an open program, even though both sit under one university name.
For more options, see open admission universities in Germany in our public universities in Germany guide.
Counselor insight: Applicants often check only the headline deadline. Check whether the program is capped, because that decides how much your grades and motivation letter matter.
University of Bremen Acceptance Rate for International Students: Requirements and Documents
The University of Bremen admission requirements for international students are set program by program. A bachelor's degree is required, and each program sets a minimum number of credits at the time of application. Bremen's master's program list shows, for example, 120 credits for Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Systems, 130 for Management Information Systems and 135 for Ecology, and some programs add a minimum grade (for example 2.3 for Digital Media and Society, on the German scale). The MSc Management Information Systems page asks for a degree of at least 180 ECTS plus defined credits in computer science and business basics. Bremen checks your university's accreditation and your degree using the Anabin database, so a 3-year Indian bachelor's is judged against each program's own credit minimum; ask the program coordinator before you apply.
The University of Bremen IELTS requirement depends on the language level your program sets. The Bremen Language Centre lists:
| Level | IELTS Academic (guidance) | TOEFL iBT |
|---|---|---|
| English B2 | Band 5.5 to 6.5 | 72 to 94 |
| English C1 | Band 7.0 to 8.0 | 95 or more |
The bands are for guidance, and the level printed on your certificate is what counts. Some programs set B2 at application and C1 at enrolment, as the Management Information Systems page does. Bremen's master's FAQ also accepts a medium-of-instruction letter from your university for B2 or C1 if your bachelor's was taught entirely in English, so you may not need a test.
Read our IELTS score for Germany guide before booking a test.
| Document | India-specific detail |
|---|---|
| Bachelor's degree certificate and marksheets | You may apply in the final phase of your bachelor's; the program sets the date by which the degree must be proven |
| Transcript | Official transcript of records and degree certificate issued by your university (printouts from a student portal are not accepted); documents not in German or English need translation for enrolment |
| English test | IELTS or TOEFL at the program's level |
| CV and motivation letter | Motivation letter where the admission regulations require it; CV helps the committee |
| APS certificate | Must be available at the time of application; Bremen's master's FAQ says applications without it are rejected |
Bremen states that conditional admission without sufficient German skills is not possible for German-taught programs, so English-taught programs are the realistic route for most Indian applicants.
See how to apply to German universities.
Counselor insight: "IELTS 7" appears on many portals as Bremen's rule. For a B2 program, 5.5 to 6.5 is the official guidance, so check before you spend on a retake.
University of Bremen Admission Deadline and Admission Portal: MOIN Timeline
For master's programs, international students apply directly to the University of Bremen, through the University of Bremen admission portal, called MOIN. The portal opens about six weeks before the deadline, an application is valid only for the semester you chose, and you can apply to only one master's program per semester. Bremen's pages state that processing undergraduate applications is free of charge, and the master's FAQ lists no application fee.
| Program (example) | Admission | Winter application period |
|---|---|---|
| Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Systems | Restricted | 1 February to 15 March |
| Digital Media and Society | Restricted | 1 February to 15 March |
| International Relations: Global Politics and Social Theory | Restricted | 1 December to 1 February |
| Biochemistry and Molecular Biology | Restricted | 1 December to 15 January |
| Ecology, Marine Biology, Space Engineering | Restricted | 1 March to 30 April |
| Management Information Systems | Restricted | 1 April to 31 May |
| Business Studies (BWL), Economics of Global Challenges | Open | 1 April to 31 May |
| Physics, Environmental Physics, Systems Engineering | Open | 1 May to 15 July |
| Summer-semester applications, most programs | Varies | 1 December to 15 January |
| Summer-start programs (Communication and Information Technology) | Open | 1 August to 15 October of the previous year |
| Bachelor's, uni-assist preliminary review (recommended) | n/a | 6 June (winter), 1 December (summer) |
| Bachelor's, MOIN application | n/a | 15 July (winter), 15 January (summer) |
Restricted means Bremen offers a limited number of places and ranks applicants against each other, so meeting the requirements does not guarantee a place. Open means you are admitted if you meet the requirements.
Dates are from Bremen's master's program list as published for the current cycle, which also shows some winter 2026/27 deadlines extended to 15 July or 15 September 2026. Expect the same pattern for 2027/28, and check your program's entry when Bremen updates it. This is the University of Bremen application deadline pattern; the University of Bremen masters application deadline is set on each program's entry in the master's portal.
See our Winter intake in Germany and Summer intake in Germany pages.
Counselor insight: Deadlines inside one university differ by program. Students who fix one date in their head, usually 15 July, miss the earlier ones: several restricted programs close in March or April.
University of Bremen Acceptance Rate vs Constructor University and Hochschule Bremen
"Bremen" covers several institutions, and acceptance figures get mixed between them.
| Institution | Type | Tuition | Published acceptance rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| University of Bremen | Public | Check program page | None |
| Constructor University (formerly Jacobs University Bremen) | Private, English-medium | 20,000 euros per year (10,000 per semester), about Rs.22 lakh, per Constructor's 2026-27 master's cost sheet | None; aggregators estimate 47% without a source |
| Hochschule Bremen (Bremen University of Applied Sciences) | Public, applied sciences | Check program page | None |
| Hochschule Bremerhaven | Public, applied sciences | Check program page | None |
The Jacobs University Bremen acceptance rate for international students has no official figure either. Constructor runs rolling admission through its own portal and is a different budget decision from a public university. Constructor's cost sheet adds a small university fee and a semester ticket, notes that financing options may reduce tuition, and cites the same 11,904-euro blocked account for visa applicants. For the Bremen University of Applied Sciences ranking, QS's Hochschule Bremen profile shows it at #180 in the QS Europe University Rankings, Western Europe table for 2026, with no QS world rank listed. Hochschule Bremerhaven lists 15 July for winter and 15 January for summer for most master's programs, with applicants holding non-EU degrees starting via uni-assist.
Among Universities in Bremen for international students, the public route is cheaper, while Constructor offers rolling admission at private-university prices.
Our universities of applied sciences in Germany guide covers the applied-sciences route.
Counselor insight: Check which institution a figure is about. A rate quoted for "Bremen" may describe Constructor, Hochschule Bremen or the University of Bremen.
University of Bremen Acceptance Rate for Law and the “UB Law School” Question
"UB law school acceptance rate" can mean the University at Buffalo in the US or the University of Bremen. Bremen's Student Office handles applications for bachelor's, teacher training and law, and law there leads to the first state examination, which most Indian applicants will not target. For an English-taught route, Bremen's list shows a restricted Transnational Law master's that asks for 210 credits at application, English C1 at enrolment and applications from 1 March to 30 April. No law acceptance rate is published. For Buffalo, use that university's own admissions pages.
Counselor insight: If you meant a law degree for a career in India, a Germany-focused law route may not fit; ask a counselor before applying.
Which Applicant Profile Fits? University of Bremen Acceptance Rate Decision Guide
- If you are a final-year BTech student graduating May 2027: apply to an open-admission English-taught master's, such as Physics or Mathematics (both English B2 on Bremen's list), for Winter 2027/28, and arrange your provisional certificate and English test by the program's deadline.
Read study in Germany without IELTS if your test is not ready. - If you are a graduate with strong grades and subject match: a capped program such as MSc Ecology is realistic, but Bremen accepts only one master's application per semester, so place your backups at other universities.
- If your English score sits around IELTS 6.0: choose a B2 program, since a C1 program needs 7.0 or higher.
- If you want a private, rolling-admission route: compare Constructor University, but budget for tuition.

For admission questions, the Student Office (SfS) handles applications. Its master's team is on +49 421 218-61111 and its bachelor's team on +49 421 218-61110, both listed with office hours on the master's program page. The university's general contact page lists only the main number, +49 421 218-1. For University of Bremen admission email contact, the master's FAQ lists master@vw.uni-bremen.de, and it must be used within the deadline to reopen a wrongly submitted application. The University of Bremen admission office is the Student Office at Bibliothekstraรe 1, 28359 Bremen, ground floor of the VWG building. Your University of Bremen admission letter is made available in your MOIN account, with an email alert, and is not sent by post. To enrol you then pay the semester fee by the stated deadline, return the signed acceptance and send paper copies of the required documents to the Student Office; email submissions are not accepted.
Counselor insight: Check your MOIN account weekly after the deadline, because requests for missing documents arrive there and have their own time limits.
If Your University of Bremen Application Is Incomplete or Rejected
- The Student Office finds the file incomplete: Bremen rejects applications that miss formal requirements before selection, and the MSc Ecology page says the same, so submit everything early. Without an APS certificate, Indian applications are rejected.
- Selection takes longer than expected: the MSc Ecology page quotes 6 to 8 weeks after the deadline, and the master's FAQ says reviews can take several weeks or months.
- Rejected from a capped program: apply the next cycle to an open program, or compare options in our Humboldt University Berlin acceptance rate guide.
- English certificate arrives late: the MSc Ecology page allows proof of the degree and the language certificate up to two weeks after the study course starts, but other programs set their own rules, such as B2 at application and C1 at enrolment.
Counselor insight: Do not wait for the results of one program before preparing the next. Bremen takes one master's application per semester, so run your backup applications at other universities in parallel.
