Reading Skills and General Knowledge This section tests your proficiency in reading and analyzing English materials from current affairs, classic and contemporary fiction, and scientific non-fiction. Logical Reasoning Anticipate questions that assess your ability to construct a logical argument from provided statements, whether they are expressed in words or symbols. Biology carries the single highest weight in the IMAT exam syllabus. Topics include:

• Chemistry of living organisms and the biological role of weak interactions
• Organic molecules and enzyme function
• Cell theory, cell structure, and the cell membrane
• Cell cycle, mitosis, and meiosis
• Genetics: Mendelian, classical, molecular, and human genetics
• Mutation, natural and artificial selection, and evolutionary theory
• Biotechnology and recombinant DNA
• Human and animal anatomy and physiology, including homeostasis
• Bioenergetics: ATP, photosynthesis, glycolysis, respiration, and fermentation

Counselor Insight: Don't treat the general knowledge section as an afterthought just because it's only 4 questions. For EU-equivalent candidates chasing the 20-point qualifying threshold, the general knowledge section often provides the fastest marks to pick up, especially if they stay current with science and world affairs reading.

Looking at the IMAT section-wise weightage, Biology (23) and Chemistry (15) together account for 38 of the 60 questions, roughly 63% of the IMAT exam syllabus sitting in these two subjects.
