What the DHA TCAM Exam Is and Which Country It Covers
The DHA TCAM exam is the Dubai Health Authority’s licensing test for traditional medicine practitioners who want to practice in Dubai, UAE. DHA’s own documents call the category TCIM, short for Traditional Complementary and Integrative Medicine, while most students still search “TCAM”. Both terms mean the same exams.
Here is the essential information about the DHA exam for this category. DHA offers five TCIM titles: Acupuncture Practitioner, Ayurveda Practitioner, Hijama Therapist, Homeopathy Practitioner, and Unani Practitioner. Prometric runs the exam through centers in more than 160 countries, so applicants taking the DHA TCAM exam in Dubai can take it from India. DHA licenses professionals in all of Dubai, and that is the only place the license is valid. Other authorities regulate the other emirates, so a DHA license does not cover them.

DHA TCAM Exam Eligibility for Indian Degree Holders
DHA TCAM exam eligibility depends on your degree and your experience. The Unified Healthcare Professional Qualification Requirements (PQR) set the rules. For Indian applicants, the three common degrees are mapped to DHA titles below.
| Title | Degree DHA lists | Minimum course | Experience |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ayurveda Practitioner | BAMS | 5 years including internship (4,500 hrs theory and practical, 1,000 hrs internship) | 2 years post-qualification |
| Homeopathy Practitioner | BHMS | 5 years including internship | 2 years post-qualification |
| Unani Practitioner | BUMS (the PQR also lists BEMS) | 4 years including supervised clinical practicum | 2 years post-qualification |
Beyond the degree, DHA expects a valid home-country license or registration, transcripts showing theory and clinical hours, and a valid BLS certificate. Practitioners who stopped clinical work face gap rules: three to under four years need 20 CME credits plus 6 months of training, and a non-UAE national with a gap beyond five years cannot apply. Fresh graduates may receive a trainee restriction if their experience is insufficient.
Counselor insight: Count your 2 years from the day your internship ends, and keep every employer letter on letterhead with dates.
DHA TCAM Exam Pattern, Topics, and Timing by Title
Every TCIM title uses the same format, according to DHA's CBT guideline updated in September 2026. The DHA exam timing is 2 hours per title, and that includes registration, the process introduction, and the exam content, so the time for questions is shorter than the headline figure. Questions are multiple choice, results show Pass or Fail only, and DHA can change content or pass score without updating the guideline.
| Title | Exam code | Questions | Time | Fee | Pass mark |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ayurveda Practitioner | PAY5852 | 100 | 2 hrs | Rs.17,273 (USD 180) | 60% |
| Homeopathy Practitioner | PHO5832 | 100 | 2 hrs | Rs.17,273 (USD 180) | 60% |
| Unani Practitioner | PUN6062 | 100 | 2 hrs | Rs.17,273 (USD 180) | 60% |
| Acupuncture Practitioner | PAC6092 | 100 | 2 hrs | Rs.17,273 (USD 180) | 60% |
| Hijama Therapist | HIJ5862 | 100 | 2 hrs | Rs.17,273 (USD 180) | 60% |
DHA exam topics differ by title. Ayurveda covers Ayurveda philosophy, Dravyaguna Vigyan, Rasashastra, Roga Nidan, Kayachikitsa, Panchakarma, Prasuti Tantra evam Stree Roga, and Samhita Adhyayan, plus pharmacology. Homeopathy covers philosophy, the Organon, Materia Medica, case taking, the Repertory, and therapeutics. Unani covers fundamentals, anatomy and physiology, pathology, pharmacology, regimental therapy, and formulations.
Counselor insight: The guideline also lists Davidson's Principles and Practice of Medicine for Ayurveda and Homeopathy, so plan time for modern medicine topics.
DHA TCAM Exam Requirements: Documents Checklist
The DHA exam requirements on paper are mostly documents. DHA says documents not in English or Arabic must be legally translated and uploaded alongside the originals. On exam day, only your original passport or national ID is required.
Our DataFlow guide covers verification in depth.
| Document | Why DHA asks | India-specific detail |
|---|---|---|
| Passport | Identity; also the only document needed on exam day | Check the expiry date before you apply |
| Degree certificate and transcripts | Qualification check | BAMS, BHMS or BUMS transcripts must show theory and clinical hours |
| Internship hours record | The PQR counts 1,000 internship hours inside the BAMS course and asks for transcripts showing theory and clinical hours | Ask your college for a transcript or certificate that shows internship hours |
| Home registration | The PQR requires a current valid license or registration in your home country or country of last employment | Your Indian state board or council registration for your system of medicine; the PQR does not name the Indian body, so check the Self-Assessment Tool result |
| Good Standing Certificate | Shows no misconduct record | Must be no older than 6 months on the day you apply |
| Experience letters | Proves your 2 years | Employer letterhead with dates and designation |
| BLS certificate | Mandatory for TCIM practitioners | Must be valid on the day of application |
Counselor insight: Make sure your name is spelled identically on your passport, degree, and registration, since each system compares them.
DHA TCAM Exam Rules and Regulations
The DHA exam rules and regulations below come from DHA's Manual for Professional Assessment and its FAQ. The exam fee is non-refundable, including after rescheduling, cancellation, or a no-show. You can reschedule through Prometric at least five calendar days before the exam, and the center may add its own charge. A change inside that window counts as a no-show.
You pass one assessment per position. DHA's FAQ states you have three attempts for each position, with no grace period before reapplying. After a third failure, you need a new qualification meeting the PQR criteria for a higher title. Results appear in your Sheryan account, and you can appeal in writing within one month.
Our DHA Prometric exam guide explains center-day logistics.
Counselor insight: Rescheduling at day six costs far less than a no-show at day four. Put the five-day deadline in your calendar the moment you book.
DHA TCAM Exam Form and Booking Steps
There is no separate paper form. The DHA TCAM exam form is simply your Sheryan application, and the steps below follow DHA's guidelines. Follow the prompts in your Sheryan dashboard for the exact order of verification and booking.
- Check your title and exam mode. Run the free Self-Assessment Tool in Sheryan so DHA confirms the TCIM title and exam for your degree.
- Create your Sheryan account. Log in to your DHA e-service account and open the Health Licensing Service.
- Copy your DHA Unique ID. You need it for the Prometric booking.
- Generate your Eligibility ID. DHA issues it once eligibility is confirmed.
- Schedule at Prometric. DataFlow says you can book while your verification documents are being submitted. Book your exam at the DHA page on Prometric, choosing a center and a slot.
- Check your result, then Get Registered. Pass or Fail appears in Sheryan, and a hiring facility later activates your license.
See our Sheryan DHA license guide
Counselor insight: Do not pay for Prometric before DHA confirms your title. A wrong title means a wrong exam and a lost fee.
DHA TCAM Exam Dates, Schedule, and Planning Calendar
DHA publishes no fixed DHA TCAM exam date or annual calendar. Once you hold an Eligibility ID, you schedule on Prometric's DHA page and choose a center, date, and time from the slots shown. Prometric's India helpline is +91-124-4147700 (Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:30 pm IST), and its center locator shows centers near you. Your paperwork sets the DHA exam schedule, not a national date. This calendar maps to the Indian academic year.
| Stage | Months | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Final professional year | August to June | Run the Self-Assessment Tool and read the PQR for your title |
| Internship (12 months) | July to June | Collect transcripts; complete BLS |
| Post-qualification year 1 | July to June | Work in a clinic; keep letters |
| Post-qualification year 2 | July to June | Finish the 2-year experience; request Good Standing Certificate |
| After year 2 | Any month | Verify documents, generate Eligibility ID, book Prometric |
Counselor insight: Count backward from your intended joining month, and start verification before you complete the full 2 years.
DHA TCAM Exam Fees in Rupees
The DHA TCAM exam fees combine DHA, Prometric, and DataFlow charges. The Prometric fee comes from DHA's guideline, and the credentialing and activation fees come from DHA's service pages, which add Knowledge and Innovation fees at checkout. Only the DataFlow price is unconfirmed.
Figures use Rs.26.13 per AED, with USD converted at 3.6725 AED per dollar.
| Stage | Amount | Paid to |
|---|---|---|
| Self-Assessment Tool | Free | DHA |
| Credentialing (Get Registered) | Rs.5,226 (AED 200) | DHA |
| DataFlow verification | About Rs.24,433 (AED 935), the nurse and allied healthcare package on DataFlow's DHA page; it does not name a TCIM package, so confirm the amount when you open your case | DataFlow |
| DHA TCAM exam (Prometric) | Rs.17,273 (USD 180) | Prometric |
| License activation, 1 year | Rs.26,130 (AED 1,000), the "Nurse and Midwife/Allied Health/T&CM" tier on DHA's activation page; physicians and dentists pay AED 3,000 | DHA, usually via employer |
Before activation, the estimated total is about Rs.46,932 if DataFlow charges AED 935. Late renewal of a TCAM license costs Rs.5,226 (AED 200) a month, per DHA's renewal page.
See our DHA exam cost guide.
Exchange rate used: Rs.26.13 per AED. Verify the current rate before finalizing your budget.
Counselor insight: The exam fee is the smallest cheque. Ask your employer in writing who pays for activation.
Which DHA TCAM Exam Route Fits You: 3 Indian Scenarios
If you are a final-year BAMS student graduating in 2027, you do not yet meet the 2-year experience rule. DHA can give fresh graduates a trainee restriction. Run the Self-Assessment Tool, finish BLS, and plan 2 years of clinical work.
If you are a BHMS graduate with three years of clinic experience, you meet the experience rule. Your exam is Homeopathy Practitioner (PHO5832), so focus on the Organon, Materia Medica, and Repertory.
If you are a BUMS graduate with a three-year gap, the gap rules apply: 20 CME credits and 6 months of training. Your exam is Unani Practitioner (PUN6062).
Counselor insight: Gather letters explaining study, family leave, or other breaks before you apply.
When Your DHA TCAM Exam Plan Goes Wrong
- You fail. You may reapply with no waiting period, but you pay the fee again. After three failures for one position, you need a new qualification.
- You miss or cancel late. Inside the five-day window, the booking counts as a no-show, and the fee is forfeited.
- Your gap passes five years. A non-UAE national cannot apply under the PQR.
- You dispute a result. Write to DHA within one month of receiving it.
- DataFlow comes back negative. Contact DataFlow, which allows re-verification only once.
Counselor insight: Fix the paperwork problem before you rebook anything. A second failure from the same cause costs another fee.
3 Takeaways on the DHA TCAM Exam
Your DHA TCAM exam plan consists of three actions.

- Book Prometric with a five-day buffer. Fees are non-refundable, so protect your slot.

Frequently Asked Questions on DHA TCAM Exam
-
What is the DHA TCAM exam?
The DHA TCAM exam is a computer-based licensing test run by Prometric for Dubai Health Authority. It covers five TCIM titles: Ayurveda, Unani, Homeopathy, Acupuncture, and Hijama. Each has 100 multiple-choice questions in two hours with a 60% pass mark, and the result shows only Pass or Fail.
-
Is it called TCAM or TCIM at DHA?
DHA's official documents use TCIM, which stands for Traditional Complementary and Integrative Medicine. Most students and job boards still say TCAM, and both refer to the same practitioner titles and exams. Search either term, but use TCIM when reading DHA's PQR and CBT guidelines.
-
Who is eligible for the DHA TCAM exam from India?
BAMS, BHMS, and BUMS graduates qualify when their course meets DHA's duration rules, with 2 years of post-qualification experience. You also need a valid home registration, transcripts showing theory and clinical hours, and a valid BLS certificate. Fresh graduates may receive a trainee restriction.
-
How many questions, and what is the pass mark in the DHA TCAM exam?
Every TCIM title has 100 multiple-choice questions with a 60% pass mark. Your result appears as Pass or Fail in Sheryan, and DHA does not share a score. DHA can change content, format, or pass score without updating its guideline, so check the current version before you book.
-
How long is the DHA TCAM exam?
The TCAM exam lasts 2 hours. That time includes registration and the process introduction, so actual question time is shorter. Carry your original passport or national ID to the center, since it is the only document DHA requires for the assessment itself. Confirm your appointment time in your Prometric booking email.
-
How much does the DHA TCAM exam cost in rupees?
The Prometric fee for each TCAM title is Rs.17,273 (USD 180). Add the DHA credentialing fee, DataFlow verification, and license activation for the full cost. Fees are non-refundable, including reschedules and no-shows, so confirm every amount on the live pages before paying.
-
What are the DHA TCAM exam dates?
DHA publishes no fixed annual calendar. Once you hold an Eligibility ID, you choose a date and center at Prometric from available slots. Reschedule at least five calendar days before your appointment, because a change inside that window is treated as a no-show and the fee is lost.
-
Is a DHA TCAM license valid outside Dubai?
A DHA license covers only Dubai, since DHA's jurisdiction is all of Dubai. Other authorities regulate the other emirates, so you need a separate process for them. Confirm your employer's emirate before you start the DHA TCAM exam application.
-
How many attempts do I get for the DHA TCAM exam?
You get three attempts for each position, with no grace period between them. After a third failure, you need a new qualification that meets the PQR criteria for a higher title before you can reapply. A missed slot loses the fee, so prepare before rebooking.
