Indian students researching this scholarship are usually also looking at Germany’s DAAD scholarships or Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees. The difference is scope, not generosity. DAAD funds a monthly stipend on top of Germany’s already low or zero public-university tuition, but you’re still competing for a limited number of DAAD-specific grants rather than blanket coverage across the university system. Erasmus Mundus fully funds selected students, but only within specific joint program cohorts run by a consortium of universities, so your choice of course is narrower than what Stipendium Hungaricum’s roughly 900 courses offer.

Stipendium Hungaricum’s advantage for Indian students is breadth: one bilateral agreement covers bachelor’s through PhD, across nearly all of Hungary’s public universities, with a fixed, government-backed benefits package rather than a grant that varies by professor or project. • Class 12, expecting 2027 results, targeting a bachelor’s: shortlist English-taught programs now. Bachelor’s seats fill through both academic merit and entrance tests, so early shortlisting buys you prep time. Action item: request your provisional Class 12 marksheet or a bonafide certificate from school the moment results are declared, since Tempus’s technical check won’t wait for your original certificate to arrive by post.
• Final-year graduate, mid-2027, targeting a master’s: your motivation letter should connect your specialization to a specific Hungarian department’s research focus, not a generic “study in Europe” narrative. Action item: email the department’s admissions contact (listed on the Study Finder program page) before you submit, asking one specific question about the syllabus. A reply you can reference in your letter is worth more than a generic compliment about the university.
• Master’s holder applying for a PhD: Line up a research plan and two LORs before touching the form, and contact your prospective supervisor directly first.
