There is no Master of Pharmacy degree in Singapore. If you have been searching for an M Pharm, rename the target now, because the degree that exists is the Master of Science (Pharmaceutical Science and Technology), or MPST, run by the NUS Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

NUS has run the MPST since 2008. It began as a part-time program created in response to directions from the Economic Development Board to train science, pharmacy, and engineering staff for Singapore’s pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industry, specifically in formulation, process and product development, quality assurance, and regulatory affairs. The full-time version launched in AY2022/2023 and is open to overseas applicants.

The full-time MPST requires 40 units, made up of 16 units of core courses and 24 units of electives, with a minimum GPA of 3.00 to graduate. Electives cluster around drug discovery, pharmaceutical process and technology, product development and management, innovation, and a research and internship track. Candidature runs from a minimum of two semesters to a maximum of four.

One practical detail worth knowing before you plan your week: NUS states that classes for most MPST courses are typically held on weekday evenings or on Saturdays.

The MSc in Medical Pharmacology is the closest alternative, one year full-time with tracks in clinical pharmacology, translational pharmacology, and pharmacology education.

Eligibility for a Masters in Pharmacy in Singapore

For direct admission to the full-time MPST, NUS requires at least 2nd Class Lower Honours, or the equivalent, in one of six degrees:

• BSc (Honours) in Chemistry
• BSc (Honours) in Life Sciences
• BApplSc (Honours) in Food Science and Technology
• BApplSc (Honours) in Applied Chemistry (Drug Option)
• BSc in Pharmacy (Honours)
• BEng (Honours) in Chemical Engineering

Other qualifications are assessed as equivalents, case by case. This is where Indian applicants need to pay attention, because NUS says something specific about them: submitting GRE General Test results is not mandatory, but it is recommended for candidates who do not meet the stipulated degree or honors classification or who hold equivalent degrees from overseas universities. Read as written, that puts most Indian applicants in the category NUS is advising to take the GRE. Scores are valid for 2.5 years and must not have expired at the point of application.

On English, applicants whose undergraduate instruction was not in English must submit IELTS with a minimum overall band of 6, or TOEFL iBT at 85 for tests taken before 21 January 2026 and 4.5 for tests taken from that date. Scores are valid for two years. NUS does not accept Home Editions of IELTS or TOEFL, and does not accept digitally issued IELTS scores. Only physical test score reports are eligible.

Counselor insight: Ask your IELTS centre for the printed Test Report Form when you book, not after results day. Indian candidates increasingly receive only the electronic result, then discover at upload time that NUS will not take it, and a reprint plus courier can eat three weeks you do not have in March.

Fees and Total Cost of a Masters in Pharmacy in Singapore in INR

NUS has published the MPST full-time fee for both the AY2026/2027 and AY2027/2028 cohorts, so unlike most Singapore programs, there is no guesswork for the August 2027 intake.

The fees page states that the acceptance fee is non-refundable and non-transferable and is applied to offset the Semester 1 bill. Miscellaneous student fees are payable every regular semester on top of tuition. If you have to repeat or add a course, you pay 10% of the full programme fee for a 4-unit course and 20% for an 8-unit course.

For a sense of direction, the AY2025/2026 cohort paid S$53,791.50 for the same program, so the published AY2027/28 figure is already about 6% higher.

Add living costs. NUS advises international students to budget a minimum of S$19,500 a year, around S$1,800 (Rs.1,35,936) a month. At application stage you also need financial documents showing at least S$30,000 (Rs.22,65,600) available, either in your own account or in a sponsor's with a declaration letter.

On that basis, one year of a masters in pharmacy in Singapore comes to roughly Rs.57.82 lakh, before flights. The Student's Pass adds a S$60 (Rs.4,531) issuance fee and, for most Indian passport holders, a S$30 (Rs.2,266) multiple journey visa fee payable to ICA.

Counselor insight: The two instalments are not equal. Semester 2 is about Rs.4.1 lakh heavier than Semester 1. A loan disbursed in two equal tranches will leave you short in January, which is exactly when you are also paying rent renewals, so structure the disbursal unevenly from the start.

Scholarships and Funding for Masters in Pharmacy in Singapore

The honest answer here is short, and it is not what most pages imply.

The NUS Master's by Coursework Enhanced Tuition Fee Rebate gives a 40% tuition reduction to full-time Singaporeans and Singapore permanent residents enrolling from AY2024 to AY2028. Indian students are outside it.

The NUS ASEAN Master's Scholarship covers full tuition for the normal candidature and is bond-free, but the first eligibility condition is citizenship of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Timor-Leste, the Philippines, Thailand or Vietnam. It also requires an undergraduate semester at NUS under the DiscoverNUS scheme and a degree from a partner university in that country. An Indian applicant fails the first condition.

That leaves self-funding, an Indian education loan, or employer sponsorship. Which is precisely why the S$30,000 financial document threshold sits at application stage rather than after the offer. Counselor insight: Get your loan sanction letter dated before you accept the offer. The acceptance fee of Rs.4,11,584 falls due on acceptance and is not returned if your Student's Pass is later refused.

Application Process and Documents Needed for Masters in Pharmacy in Singapore

Applications go through the NUS Graduate Admission System. Everything is uploaded as PDF, nothing is posted, no changes are allowed once submitted, and NUS states that inaccurate or incomplete applications will not be processed. The university has also engaged no external agencies for graduate recruitment, so apply directly.

Once you submit, the system emails your referees a report link automatically, so their addresses need to be correct at submission.

What to Do When Things Go Wrong

• Your degree is not one of the six listed. Apply anyway with GRE General Test scores attached, which is exactly the case NUS says the GRE is for. Equivalence is assessed case by case.
• Your IELTS came through digitally only. Request the physical test report form immediately. Digital and Home Edition results are not accepted.
• Your GRE is more than 2.5 years old. It has expired for this purpose and will not be considered. Retest before the cycle you are targeting.
• You missed the early cycle. The regular cycle from 1 October 2026 to 15 March 2027 is a full second chance, with an outcome by 30 June 2027.
• Your application was rejected as incomplete. No changes are allowed after submission, so the fix is a clean application in the next cycle, not an appeal.
• You are in Year 3 with fewer than five semesters of records. The early cycle asks for at least five semesters of academic records, so the regular cycle may suit you better.
• The acceptance fee is due before your loan clears. Keep this amount in a separate liquid account. It is non-refundable and non-transferable.
