GRE Accepted Universities in Australia: The Verified 2027-28 List
Four Australian institutions name the GRE in their published entry requirements for 2027-28, and the conditions attached to it differ so sharply that treating them as one list will cost you money. Before you look at any table of GRE accepted universities in Australia, three phrases need separating.
Required means your application is incomplete without a GRE score. Accepted as an alternative means the GRE is one of several routes in, and you only need it if the other routes are closed to you. Not used means the university’s admissions office will not read the score even if you send it.

Read the table twice. The only university on it that will reject an Indian applicant for not having a GRE score is the University of Melbourne, and only in specific faculties. Everywhere else, the test is either optional or irrelevant.
Counselor insight: Students send us shortlists of eight Australian programs and ask which GRE score to target. In nine cases out of ten, not one program on the list names the test. Before you book anything, open the entry requirements page of each specific program, use Ctrl+F, and search for "GRE". If the word is absent, your GRE plan is finished.
Why the GRE Scores on Most “GRE Accepted Universities in Australia” Lists Don’t Exist
The same table appears on six different sites: ANU at Verbal 160 and Quantitative 160, Melbourne at 154 and 158, Sydney at 304, and UQ, Monash, UWA and Adelaide all at exactly 305. The uniformity is the giveaway. Not one of those figures appears on any Australian university's own admissions page.
One number is real. UNSW's 2021 AGSM admissions policy accepted GRE scores case by case at minimum Verbal 148, Quantitative 156 and overall 307. That archived PDF is where "UNSW GRE 307" comes from. The current AGSM page has replaced it with academic excellence shown through strong results or a strong GMAT or GRE score, and publishes no cutoff. An aggregator copied an old PDF, everyone copied the aggregator, and a retired number became "the GRE score for Australia".
Counselor insight: If you are studying three months to hit 305 for Monash, you are chasing a requirement that does not exist while your statement of purpose and financial documentation, the two things that actually decide Australian outcomes, sit untouched.
GRE Cost, Score Reports and Documents for Indian Applicants
ETS lists the GRE General Test at Rs.25,522 ($249) for all areas of the world outside China, with the fee having increased effective 1 August 2026. Rescheduling costs Rs.5,650 ($55), changing your test centre costs Rs.5,650 ($55), each additional score report beyond the free allocation costs Rs.4,150 ($40), score reinstatement costs Rs.5,000 ($50), and a score review for the Analytical Writing measure costs Rs.5,900 ($60). The GRE Subject Test is Rs.20,033 ($199). Test takers in India register through the ETS India website rather than the global site.
You select up to four score recipients free on test day. Select them on the day. Adding them later costs Rs.4,150 each, which is how a Rs.25,522 test quietly becomes a Rs.42,000 one.

Exchange rate used: Rs.68.18 per AUD 1 for tuition figures. GRE fees are quoted directly in INR by ETS. Verify both before budgeting.
Counselor insight: Book the GRE only after you have written confirmation of the requirement from the program page, saved as a PDF with the date. Entry requirements change between handbook years, and an offer dispute is much easier to resolve when you can show what the page said on the day you applied.
When Things Go Wrong at GRE Accepted Universities in Australia
Your score lands below the Melbourne MBA's 310. You can retest, but the calendar is tight and the floor is only a floor. A 312 in a cohort averaging 695 GMAT is not a strong application on its own. Strengthen the work experience narrative and the personal statement, and apply in an earlier round where more places remain.
You took the GMAT but your program only names the GRE. Check the stream, not the university. Melbourne's Master of Commerce coursework streams accept either test. The Master of Economics and Master of Applied Econometrics name the GRE specifically. A GMAT will not substitute there.
Your scores will not reach the university before the deadline. Additional score reports cost Rs.4,150 each and take time to process. If you are close to a deadline, email the admissions office with your ETS registration number and ask whether they will accept a self-reported score pending the official report. Many will hold the file.
Your final-year results are delayed. Apply with your last completed semester's marksheets and a letter from your college confirming the expected result date. Australian universities routinely issue conditional offers on this basis.
You paid for a GRE your program never needed. Scores are valid for five years and both ANU and Melbourne enforce that window. The money is not recoverable, but the score keeps US, Canadian and European options open if your Australian plan changes.
Counselor insight: An admission problem and a visa problem are different problems. Students who fix a weak GRE by applying to a lower-ranked course sometimes create a bigger issue at the Genuine Student requirement stage, because the course no longer follows logically from their degree. Solve both together.
