LSHTM’s 2026-27 tuition fees put its MSc Public Health at Rs 40.26 lakh (£31,450) for overseas students and its MSc Global Mental Health at Rs 51.78 lakh (£40,450). Against the Public Health figure, the maximum Rs 6 lakh award covers roughly 15% of tuition. The minimum covers about 7%.

Rs 6 lakh you never repay is worth more than Rs 6 lakh you repay over seven years, so do not rank these awards by headline value. A small number of J.N. Tata loan scholars do have the loan converted into an outright gift on merit, which is why some describe it as a scholarship.

2. A consistent and remarkable academic record across your degree.
3. All results in hand. Candidates still awaiting results are not eligible. This applies to both Bachelor’s and Master’s completions.
4. Applied for admission, or preferably secured admission, to a reputed university in the United States, UK or Europe.
5. At least two years of relevant paid work experience is desired, not mandatory.

Explicitly excluded: part-time, short-term, correspondence, certificate and distance-learning courses, exchange programmes, undergraduate courses, anyone whose final Bachelor’s marksheets have not arrived, anyone already studying abroad, and anyone heading outside the three permitted regions.

Three criteria circulating online are not in the Trust’s documents. Several portals state an age limit of 21 to 35, a mandatory first-class degree, and a requirement to show 50% funding. None appears in the 2026-27, 2025-26 or 2024-25 announcements. Treat them as unverified and work from the official PDF.

Engineering, computer science, management and general law are outside scope. If you are applying for an MS abroad in a technical field, this is not your route.

Should You Apply for the Lady Meherbai Tata Scholarship? Three Situations

If you are a final-year MA Social Work student graduating in May 2027, with results due in July, you are not eligible for 2027-28. Rule 3 requires results in hand at submission and the window shuts in late March. Target 2028-29, applying in February 2028 with your degree complete and a year of paid work behind you.

If you are 27, a programme officer at a child rights NGO in Pune with three years of paid experience, holding a conditional offer for an MSc Public Health starting September 2027, you are the profile this Trust was built for. Apply in February 2027. Your file clears every gate. Spend your time on the interview and on closing the remaining Rs 34 lakh of tuition, not on eligibility.
