TCD, UCD, and UCC require a 6.5 CGPA. DCU, UL, and Maynooth accept 6.0. In practice, competitive TCD profiles are typically 7.0–7.5 CGPA or above.

TCD covers AI, machine learning, distributed systems, and data engineering with a research-intensive curriculum. Has a dedicated Indian postgraduate scholarship of €3,000 as a fee reduction. Most competitive. A realistic entry is a 7.5+ CGPA.

UCD offers two distinct routes. The standard MSc CS (T102, €15,440) suits students with a CS background. The Conversion MSc (T195, €29,500) is for non-CS graduates entering tech. Four tracks: Data Analytics, Networks and Distributed Systems, Negotiated Learning, and Conversion. The location in Belfield is 5 km from the city center and accessible from most Dublin tech campuses.

DCU is the best value option within Dublin. Full-time (1 year) and part-time (2 years) are available. The North Dublin campus puts students close to Workday, Stripe, Citrix, and several other tech firms.

UL and Griffith are the lowest-cost options. UL has direct hiring ties with Analog Devices in Limerick. Griffith is ICS-accredited and suited for students with lower undergraduate scores or non-CS backgrounds.

Counselor insight: Students with a 6.5–7.0 CGPA should apply to DCU, UCC, or UL as first-choice targets, not TCD and UCD. The placement outcomes at these universities are real, and the total cost is Rs.10 to 20 lakh lower per year.

In practice, software engineering, data engineering, and cloud roles have far higher hiring volumes in Dublin. Unless you have a specific AI product role in mind, a general MSc CS gives you more options on graduation day.

How to write a strong SOP for MS in Computer Science

Counselor insight: TCD and UCD see hundreds of Indian applications each cycle. A generic SOP that could apply to any university will not clear the first screening. Write one SOP per program and reference the specific track, research lab, or industry placement pathway you are applying for.

• Big Tech EU HQs on campus: Dublin hosts the European HQs of Google (~5,500 employees), Meta, Microsoft (~3,500), Amazon, LinkedIn, and Salesforce. Apple's EU HQ is in Cork. Internship pipelines from Irish universities to these companies are direct.
• 1-year degree, 2-year stay-back: You finish a year earlier than a US MS and get 24 months on the Third Level Graduate Programme (Stamp 1G) to find a job, with no offer required to apply.
• Lower cost than the US and UK: UCD's MSc CS starts at €15,440vs. $50,000–70,000 for a 2-year US MS. No language switch required, unlike Germany.
• English-speaking EU base: Ireland is the only English-speaking EU country with a major tech ecosystem. A Dublin tech job gives you EU work rights with no language barrier.
• Honest caveat: Outside TCD (global top 100), Irish universities rank 180–500. Ireland's strength is industry placement, not academic prestige. If your goal is a research career or PhD, the US or UK is a stronger choice.

Counselor insight: Students who do best arrive with a specific target employer in mind and use the MSc year to build that relationship. Simply obtaining the degree will not guarantee opportunities.

September is the only intake that gives full access to all universities, scholarships, and the summer internship cycle. January exists but is not a strategic choice for Master's in Computer Science in Ireland. It is a fallback for missed deadlines.

Ireland intake deadlines for 2026

Dublin hosts the European headquarters of Google (5,500 employees), Meta, Microsoft (3,500 employees), Amazon Web Services, LinkedIn, HubSpot, and Salesforce. For Indian MSc CS graduates, this scenario means you are job-hunting inside the same city as Big Tech EU headquarters, not applying internationally to them.

The real earnings uplift for most Indian graduates happens at the 2-4 year mark, where mid-level Dublin SWE roles pay €70,000-€95,000. Students who intern during their MSc and convert to a full-time offer skip the lower graduate band entirely.

Counselor insight: Students at UCC and UL consistently underestimate Cork and Limerick hiring. Apple's Cork campus hires MSc graduates into software quality, product operations, and data roles. Analog Devices in Limerick has internship programs specifically targeting UL CS students. Building relationships with these employers during the MSc, not after, is the fastest path to a job offer.

After completing a Master's in Computer Science in Ireland (NFQ Level 9), Indian graduates qualify for the Third Level Graduate Programme (Stamp 1G). This gives non-EU graduates 24 months to seek graduate-level employment in Ireland, granted initially as 12 months and renewable for a further 12 months.

• If you secure a tech role, you may transition to a Critical Skills Employment Permit, which opens a long-term residency pathway. To qualify for CSEP, your role must be on the Critical Skills Occupations List and pay at least EUR 40,904 annually (EUR 36,848 for recent Irish graduates applying within 12 months of finishing your MSc).

Apply alongside your university application, not after receiving your offer. The Government of Ireland scholarship deadline typically falls in April.

Articulate exactly why you chose this program, what research or industry work you plan to pursue in Ireland, and what your post-graduation plan is. A statement that connects your BTech background to a specific employer or research gap in Ireland has a materially higher selection rate.

IELTS below 6.5 or a band below 6.0: Retake immediately. Do not submit with a score below the stated minimum. It will not clear the initial screening. Some universities issue conditional offers for strong academic profiles pending a retest.

Missed the application deadline: Irish universities run rolling admissions until cohorts fill. Check university portals directly in February–March. DCU and Griffith are known for accepting applications until April or May for September entry. A direct email to the admissions office gets faster results than waiting for portal updates.

Visa refused: Insufficient financial proof is the most common reason. Reapply with 3–6 months of bank statements showing adequate funds or an education loan sanction letter from a nationalized bank. Address the stated refusal reason before reapplying.

Results delayed: Irish universities accept provisional certificates at admission stage. Contact your admissions office immediately and provide a letter from your Indian university confirming the expected result date.

Rejected by all shortlisted universities: If you only applied to TCD and UCD, you have not applied to the full range. DCU, UCC, UL, Maynooth, and Griffith all offer recognized Master's in Computer Science in Ireland with real placement outcomes. Apply to these now.

1. Apply to at least 4 to 5 universities across the range. TCD has the strongest brand but costs Rs.29.7 lakh in tuition alone. DCU, UCC, and UL bring the total annual budget down by Rs.15–25 lakh compared to TCD.
