This is especially true for competitive programs in Computer Science, Data Science, and Electrical Engineering. Not just the faculty-level page, but also the admissions page for each program.

Eligibility and Admission Requirements for Intakes in Singapore for Indian Students
Admission Qualifications
For undergraduate programs, Indian students need to have completed Class 12 from a recognized board (CBSE, ICSE, or State Board) with a minimum aggregate of 75% to 85%, depending on the university and program. Engineering and Computer Science programs at NUS and NTU are competitive, well above 85%. For STEM programs, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in Class 12 are required subjects. SAT is not mandatory at NUS, NTU, or SUTD for Indian applicants.
For postgraduate programs, a bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline is required. The minimum academic benchmark is 60% aggregate or 6.5 CGPA on a 10-point scale for MSc programs. MBA programs at NUS and NTU typically require 2 to 5 years of full-time work experience alongside your degree. PhD applicants are expected to have a first-class or equivalent degree and, in most cases, a written research proposal.
Counselor insight: Indian students usually show their CGPA on a 10-point scale, but Singaporean universities want percentages instead. A 7.0 CGPA usually means that you have an overall 70% grade point average, but some programs at NUS and NTU need an official letter from your university's registrar to confirm this. You can get this letter when you pick up your records. The letter will save you time and effort after you have already sent in your application.

What to Do When Things Go Wrong
- You missed the deadline in August 2026. First, check that your program offers the January 2027 intake. You can use the information for a small number of graduate programs at SMU, NUS Business School, and NTU NBS. If your school doesn't let people start in January, the next time they can is in August 2027. Use the break year to make your profile better: Get in touch with possible research supervisors as soon as possible, take the GMAT or GRE again, and get some work experience in a related field.
- Your IELTS score came back below the minimum. Singaporean universities do not let students who don't speak English get in. Usually, you need an overall IELTS score of 6.5 with no subscores below 6.0 to get into classes at NUS. They won't accept a grade of 6.0. Set up a second test right away. You can get your IELTS scores in 13 days. If you apply on time, most universities in Singapore will accept a score sent in after the application deadline.
- Your offer came, but your Indian bank can't send the money on time. Send a letter from your bank to the NUS or NTU financial office confirming the transfer. In most cases, the deadline for the first semester payment is pushed back by 10 to 14 days. Talk about the issue before the deadline, not after.
- Your application for a Student's Pass through SOLAR+ was denied. ICA Singapore doesn't always explain why they do things. For Indian applicants, the most common reasons are that their proof of income is less than SGD 30,000, the papers they sent to the university and ICA don't match, or their form is incomplete. You should reapply with a new set of complete documents and contact your university's office for international students. They often have a direct line to the ICA.
Conclusion
- Check each school's admissions page to see if they accept students in August 2026, January 2027, or both. Don't rely on the university's general admissions page. Different programs at different universities have different numbers of spots open for new students. If you find these details out after the fact, you'll waste months.
- Check your eligibility before you apply to any of the intakes in Singapore. For undergraduate programs, confirm your Class 12 aggregate meets the program threshold. For postgraduate programs, verify your CGPA converts correctly and check whether your English proficiency test score clears the sub-score requirements, particularly at NUS, where no band can fall below 6.0.
- Get your papers ready ahead of time. It takes time to get your transcripts, temporary license, money order, English test score, proof of funds, and statement of purpose ready. Students who start gathering papers while they are still researching always send in better, more complete applications than those who start after they have been shortlisted.

Only a few advanced programs at NUS, NTU, SMU, and private schools like James Cook University Singapore begin in January.
-
Which universities in Singapore offer an August 2026 intake?
You can start at NUS, NTU, SMU, SUTD, or SIM in August 2026. This group is made up of students from all undergraduate programs and most graduate schools in all fields. -
Which universities in Singapore offer a January 2027 intake?
You can begin your studies in January 2027 at NUS Business School, NTU Nanyang Business School, SMU (some MSc programs), James Cook University Singapore, or Kaplan Higher Education. In January, Singapore doesn't have any public universities that accept first-year students. Usually, people can start applying for January 2027 in July 2026 and end in October 2026.
-
Can I apply to NUS or NTU with my final-year results still pending?
Records that are still being processed can be part of university applications in Singapore. You need to send in your transcripts up to the end of your seventh term and a temporary certificate from your registrar that says when you expect to graduate. You need to show your final grade report before you can apply for a Student's Pass. Not until you get your offer letter.
-
What documents does an Indian student need for a Singapore university application?
You need a degree or a temporary certificate, a Statement of Purpose, two to three Letters of Recommendation, a valid Indian passport, and a bank statement showing that you have at least SGD 30,000 (Rs. 22,12,800) in cash. Most programs require a score of 6.5 on the IELTS or 90 on the TOEFL to show that you can speak English well. -
What is the minimum IELTS score for Singapore universities in 2026-2027?
Most classes at NUS require an overall IELTS score of 6.5 with no subscores lower than 6.0. NTU and SMU also require the same criteria. The same standard is TOEFL iBT 85–90. Some Law and Business programs require a score of 7.0 or higher. Instead of looking at the page for the university's general requirements, always look at the score on the page for each program's admissions requirements.
-
When should I apply for a Student's Pass in Singapore?
You have two weeks from the time you accept your university offer to apply for your Student's Pass on ICA Singapore's SOLAR+ site. Processing usually takes four weeks. Your passport must be valid for at least 18 months after your term starts. When you get to Singapore, you will soon get the real Student's Pass card from ICA.
-
What happens if my Student's Pass is delayed past the semester start?
Immediately inform the foreign student services office at your school. NTU has put off registration options for students who need to wait for their Student's Pass because ICA is behind on processing. Usually, there is a grace period of two to four weeks. You have to ask the school about this before the term starts; it doesn't just happen.
