The August 2026 admission is the first of two times that Indian students can get into Singapore. It is the start of the 2026–2027 school year. Classes at NUS, NTU, SMU, and SUTD start in the first or second week of August 2026. There is a short orientation time at the end of July.

This intake is open to:

• All undergraduate applicants at NUS, NTU, SMU, and SUTD
• Postgraduate (MSc, MBA, PhD) applicants at all major Singapore universities
• Research-based master's and PhD students who require a supervisor and lab allocation from Day 1
• Students applying for scholarships, all of which are tied to the August entry

Some graduate programs at NUS and NTU have internal deadlines that are earlier than the university-wide deadline. This is especially true for competitive programs in Computer Science, Data Science, and Electrical Engineering. Not just the faculty-level page, but also the admissions page for each program.

The January 2027 intake started the second semester of the 2026–2027 school year. Applications for this group usually open in July 2026 and close in October 2026. If you're in your last year of college and want to apply this year, the January 2027 intake is only a viable option if you're looking for a postgraduate program that starts in January.

Usually, you can start the following programs in January 2027

Pick one of the master's programs at NUS Business School:

• The MSc in Management or the MSc in Finance. For more information, see the pages for each school.
• At NTU's Nanyang Business School, you can choose between an MBA and an MSc program.
• SMU offers graduate programs in Business Analytics, Accounting, and Finance.
• New students can start at the James Cook University campus in Singapore at any time of year.
• Kaplan Higher Education, which is linked to SIM, offers both graduate and undergraduate degree programs.

Counselor insight: Applications for the January 2027 entry open in October 2026. Don't wait until September to start getting your paperwork together if you want to apply for January 2027. You can start your SOP, talk to your recommenders, and get proof of cash together by June 2026. Many students who rushed to send in their applications in the two weeks before the deadline were turned down for programs that start in January.

For undergraduate programs, Indian students need to have completed Class 12 from a recognized board (CBSE, ICSE, or State Board) with a minimum aggregate of 75% to 85%, depending on the university and program. Engineering and Computer Science programs at NUS and NTU are competitive, well above 85%. For STEM programs, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in Class 12 are required subjects. SAT is not mandatory at NUS, NTU, or SUTD for Indian applicants.

For postgraduate programs, a bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline is required. The minimum academic benchmark is 60% aggregate or 6.5 CGPA on a 10-point scale for MSc programs. MBA programs at NUS and NTU typically require 2 to 5 years of full-time work experience alongside your degree. PhD applicants are expected to have a first-class or equivalent degree and, in most cases, a written research proposal.

Counselor insight: Indian students usually show their CGPA on a 10-point scale, but Singaporean universities want percentages instead. A 7.0 CGPA usually means that you have an overall 70% grade point average, but some programs at NUS and NTU need an official letter from your university's registrar to confirm this. You can get this letter when you pick up your records. The letter will save you time and effort after you have already sent in your application.

This calendar covers both the August 2026 and January 2027 intakes, mapped to the Indian academic year.

• You missed the deadline in August 2026. First, check that your program offers the January 2027 intake. You can use the information for a small number of graduate programs at SMU, NUS Business School, and NTU NBS. If your school doesn't let people start in January, the next time they can is in August 2027. Use the break year to make your profile better: Get in touch with possible research supervisors as soon as possible, take the GMAT or GRE again, and get some work experience in a related field.
• Your IELTS score came back below the minimum. Singaporean universities do not let students who don't speak English get in. Usually, you need an overall IELTS score of 6.5 with no subscores below 6.0 to get into classes at NUS. They won't accept a grade of 6.0. Set up a second test right away. You can get your IELTS scores in 13 days. If you apply on time, most universities in Singapore will accept a score sent in after the application deadline.
• Your offer came, but your Indian bank can't send the money on time. Send a letter from your bank to the NUS or NTU financial office confirming the transfer. In most cases, the deadline for the first semester payment is pushed back by 10 to 14 days. Talk about the issue before the deadline, not after.
• Your application for a Student's Pass through SOLAR+ was denied. ICA Singapore doesn't always explain why they do things. For Indian applicants, the most common reasons are that their proof of income is less than SGD 30,000, the papers they sent to the university and ICA don't match, or their form is incomplete. You should reapply with a new set of complete documents and contact your university's office for international students. They often have a direct line to the ICA.

• Check each school's admissions page to see if they accept students in August 2026, January 2027, or both. Don't rely on the university's general admissions page. Different programs at different universities have different numbers of spots open for new students. If you find these details out after the fact, you'll waste months.
• Check your eligibility before you apply to any of the intakes in Singapore. For undergraduate programs, confirm your Class 12 aggregate meets the program threshold. For postgraduate programs, verify your CGPA converts correctly and check whether your English proficiency test score clears the sub-score requirements, particularly at NUS, where no band can fall below 6.0.
• Get your papers ready ahead of time. It takes time to get your transcripts, temporary license, money order, English test score, proof of funds, and statement of purpose ready. Students who start gathering papers while they are still researching always send in better, more complete applications than those who start after they have been shortlisted.
