The Birla Institute of Technology and Science, also called BITS Pilani, was established in 1964. It has four campuses: Pilani Campus, Dubai Campus, BITS Hyderabad, and BITS Goa. It is one of the topmost private engineering institutes in India providing some lucrative scholarship opportunities like the BITS Pilani Dubai Scholarship, amongst others. An International Programmes and Collaboration Division (IPCD) has been set up with representation in all BITS Pilani campuses to promote relations with renowned institutions abroad. Many students pursue off-campus thesis/semester abroad programs in foreign universities ranked in the top 400 by QS and Times Higher Education (THE).

BITS Pilani Dubai Scholarship: About the Programme

The BITS Pilani Dubai Campus provides scholarships and fee concessions for Integrated First Degree (B.E.) Programmes. The BITS Pilani Dubai Scholarship is open to students of all nationalities.

Eligibility Criteria

All the non-English speakers need to undertake an English language proficiency test, like IELTS, TOEFL, or SAT, to get admitted to any of the Arab institutions. There are various other eligibility criteria for availing of the BITS Pilani Dubai Scholarship for B.E. (Hons.) Programmes:

Scholarship for Board Toppers

Students who have secured the top three positions in their 12th standard board examination from their respective boards (UAE National General Secondary School Exam or CBSE-India or any of the other State National or International Boards) will be eligible for the following under the BITS Pilani Dubai scholarship programme:

• First rank holder: 100% of the tuition fee
• Second rank holder: 75% of the tuition fee
• Third rank holder: 50% of the tuition fee

Note: This scholarship is limited to the first semester only.

Merit in Qualifying Examination (12th Grade or equivalent) Scholarship

• The students who have scored above 95% as an aggregate in the qualifying examination will be given a concession of 40% on the first-semester tuition fee at the time of admission, as a scholarship. It is limited to the first semester only.
• The students who have obtained an aggregate of 90% to 94.9% in the qualifying examination will be given a concession of 20% on the first-semester tuition fee at the time of admission, as a scholarship. It is limited to the first semester only.
• The students who have obtained an aggregate of 80% and above in the qualifying examination will be given a concession of 15% on the first-semester tuition fee at the time of admission, as a scholarship. It is limited to the first semester only.
• The students who have scored between 70% to 79.9% as an aggregate in the qualifying examination will be given a concession of 10% on the first-semester tuition fee at the time of admission, as a scholarship. It is limited to the first semester only.
• On obtaining a CGPA of 9.0 on a scale of 10.0 in each semester, the student will be eligible for a concession of 20% in the tuition fee as a scholarship for the subsequent semesters.

Scholarship for Sports Excellence

• Students who have received medals in international sports championships will be eligible for a concession of 50% on the first-semester tuition fee.
• Students who participated in international sports championships will be eligible for a concession of 15% on the first-semester tuition fee.
• Students who received medals in national tournaments will be eligible for a concession of 20% on the first-semester tuition fee.
• Students who participated in national tournaments will be eligible for a concession of 5% on the first-semester tuition fee.
• All of these scholarships will be limited to the first semester only.

Merit-cum-means Scholarship

• This scholarship is available to UAE students only. Those who wish to apply to this should adhere to the guidelines of the same, which will be available from the Student Welfare Officer. A duly constituted committee will decide the amount and the number of scholarships.

Merit in Competitive Examinations

• Students who have taken up competitive examinations like JEE, BITSAT, and AIEEE for admissions to engineering programmes are awarded scholarships based on their merit in the exams ranging from 25% to 100% in their first year.

Fee Concessions

In some cases, the students are also given some kind of concession on their tuition fee instead of a scholarship. The various eligibility criteria for availing of any kind of fee concession are mentioned below:

Hostel Fee Concession

• The admitted students who have secured 90% and above as an overall aggregate mark will be given a 25% concession on the hostel fee for the normal duration of the programme (four years). The candidates who receive this scholarship will not be eligible for hostel fee concession under any other category.

Special Concession for UAE Nationals

• All the students who are UAE nationals and meet the eligibility requirements for admission to the institution will be offered full scholarships throughout the programme, including a complete waiver of tuition fees, hostel fees, transportation fees and the cost of books.

Concession in case of sudden bereavement of the earning member of the family

• The institute will help by waiving a 100% tuition fee for the semester for the student who is facing financial hardships due to the sudden and untimely demise of the sole breadwinner of the family. The institution also offers a scholarship of up to 75% in the subsequent semesters, on a case to case basis, depending on the means, need and the overall performance/discipline of the student.

Concession for Physically Challenged Students

• All physically challenged students who meet the eligibility criteria are given a concession of 15% on the tuition fee for the entire duration of the programme, subject to satisfactory academic performance.

Sibling Concession

• For families that have enrolled more than one child in parallel, a 25% concession is offered on the tuition fee to the second child, until the first child graduates.

Merit in BITSAT

Below is the information on fee concession for the first semester of the first academic year based on the candidate’s BITSAT score. However, attempting BITSAT is not necessary for admission to BITS Pilani, Dubai.

• 300 or above: 75% of the tuition fee
• 250-299: 50% of the tuition fee
• 200-249: 25% of the tuition fee

How to Apply?

• The students who meet the eligibility criteria can apply for the Integrated First Degree Programmes online.
• Candidates need to sign up and create a student account.
• They must fill in all the required details in the admission form correctly. Please note that once the form has been submitted, the information cannot be changed. So, check the details thoroughly before submitting the application form.
• After submitting the form, the candidate must pay the online application fee. After this, they will be assigned a unique application number.
• Next, the candidate must upload all the necessary documents, including 12th marksheet, 10th marksheet, TOFEL/IELTS scorecard, and BITSAT scorecard(if attempted).

Terms and Conditions

• All students must pay their fees at the time of admission. The scholarship amount awarded will be adjusted in the subsequent fee payment.
• A student can avail of hostel fee concession under a single category only.
• At any given time, a student can opt for more than one scholarship/concession on tuition fees unless stated otherwise by the institution, provided that the total scholarship/concession amount does not exceed 50% of the tuition fee of that semester, including all the scholarships/concessions availed by the student.
• However, the above condition does not apply in the case of Sl No. I-1 of scholarships and Sl No.III-1 and III-2 of other concessions mentioned above.
• The decision of the institute shall be final and cannot be contested on all matters of scholarships and concessions at BITS Pilani, Dubai. The institute can discontinue the scholarship at any time in case the student is found in any disciplinary case.
• Scholarships based on “Merit in Qualifying Examinations” will be given automatically based on the 12th standard marks of the student. In case of applying to scholarships under all the other categories, the applicant must be submitted to the Admissions Office within one month from the date of registration. Any application received after a month will not be considered.
