The fee is due each semester, so University of Goettingen fees for a standard student add up to Rs.1,04,660 (โฌ968.36) a year, Rs.2,09,321 (โฌ1,936.72) for a 2-year Master’s and Rs.3,13,981 (โฌ2,905.08) for a 3-year Bachelor’s.

| Student aged 60 or over | โฌ1,284.18 | Rs.1,38,794 |
Exchange rate used: Rs.108.08 per euro. Verify the current rate before finalising your budget.
Counselor insight: Many Indian applicants treat the semester fee as a one-time admission charge. It is paid at every enrolment and re-registration, so budget it as Rs.1,04,660 a year, not Rs.52,330 once.
What the University of Goettingen Fees Cover: Semester Fee Breakdown
Nearly half of the Rs.52,330 semester fee pays for transport and culture tickets, which together cost Rs.25,743 (โฌ238.18). The university's semester fee page splits the winter 2026/27 amount into five parts.
| Component | In INR | In EUR |
|---|---|---|
| Administration fee | Rs.8,106 | โฌ75.00 |
| Student body fee | Rs.1,513 | โฌ14.00 |
| Studierendenwerk (student services) fee | Rs.16,969 | โฌ157.00 |
| Germany-wide semester ticket | Rs.24,513 | โฌ226.80 |
| Culture ticket | Rs.1,230 | โฌ11.38 |
| Total | Rs.52,330 | โฌ484.18 |
INR figures are rounded per line. The Studierendenwerk collects its part through the university at enrolment and re-registration, as its contribution regulation states.
Will the semester fee change in 2027-28?
Yes, at least one part will rise. The same regulation sets the Studierendenwerk fee at โฌ157 from summer 2026 and โฌ167 from summer 2027. That adds Rs.1,081 (โฌ10) per semester. If the other parts stay unchanged, the winter 2027/28 fee would be about Rs.53,411 (โฌ494.18). Check the university's page before you pay.
The fee already moved between semesters. Summer 2026 cost Rs.50,409 (โฌ466.40), and winter 2026/27 costs Rs.52,330, a rise of Rs.1,922 (โฌ17.78), mostly from a higher semester ticket price.
Exchange rate used: Rs.108.08 per euro. Verify the current rate before finalising your budget.
Counselor insight: Budget the semester fee with a small buffer rather than at last year's figure. Because it rose by Rs.1,922 in one semester and one component has a scheduled increase, plan for Rs.53,411 or more per semester in 2027-28.
Which Programs Add University of Goettingen Fees Beyond the Semester Fee
A few Goettingen programs charge tuition under their own fee schedules, and two student groups pay extra whatever they study.
Which programs have their own fees?
The university's page on fee-charging study offers lists programs with a separate fee schedule, including Euroculture (M.A.), Sustainable Forest and Nature Management (M.Sc.), the part-time Information Systems (M.Sc.) and a certificate in psychological psychotherapy. Students enrolled only in these pay the program fee plus the semester contributions, and the long-term fee does not apply.
The Master of International Law (GOMIL) shows what a fee-charging program costs. Its fee page lists Rs.9,18,680 (โฌ8,500) a year for 2027/28 entry, which is Rs.4,59,340 (โฌ4,250) per semester, paid in four instalments. The first instalment of 25% is due within six weeks of your offer, and the semester contribution of about Rs.54,040 (โฌ500) is extra.
The fee for non-EU students on Euroculture and Sustainable Forest and Nature Management is. Euroculture's fee is administered by its consortium secretariat in Groningen, and the DAAD notes that Erasmus Mundus scholarship holders in Sustainable Forest and Nature Management receive a fee waiver. Read each program's own fee page before you budget.
Who pays the long-term study fee or the age-60 fee?
Students whose study credit has run out pay Rs.54,040 (โฌ500) per semester on top of the semester fee, according to the university's long-term fee FAQ. Your credit is the standard length of your program plus six semesters, counted across all semesters at German universities. Students aged 60 or over pay an extra tuition of Rs.86,464 (โฌ800) per semester, which brings their winter 2026/27 total to Rs.1,38,794 (โฌ1,284.18).
How does this compare with Baden-Wรผrttemberg?
The DAAD notes that Baden-Wรผrttemberg charges non-EU students Rs.1,62,120 (โฌ1,500) per semester. Over a 2-year Master's, that is Rs.6,48,480 (โฌ6,000) more in tuition than a standard Goettingen program. See our guides to University of Freiburg fees and Heidelberg University fees for Indian students for the full numbers.
Counselor insight: Before you compare costs, open the program's own page and check whether it is a standard or a fee-charging program. Applicants who compare only university-level pages can miss that an Erasmus Mundus or part-time program runs on a separate fee schedule.
Visa Funds and Living Costs Beyond University of Goettingen Fees
Beyond University of Goettingen fees, the largest cash item for an Indian student is the Rs.12,86,584 (โฌ11,904) blocked account that the visa requires. The German Mission India checklist asks for it, and it limits withdrawals to Rs.1,07,215 (โฌ992) a month.
The same checklist asks for proof of the first two semesters' tuition only if the university charges tuition. For a standard Goettingen program with no tuition, only the blocked account applies. For a fee-charging program such as GOMIL, you also show Rs.9,18,680 (โฌ8,500). Our answers on the blocked amount for the Germany visa process and the typical budget for studying in Germany explain how this works.
| Item | In INR | In EUR | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blocked account, first year | Rs.12,86,584 | โฌ11,904 | Embassy requirement |
| Monthly release | Rs.1,07,215 | โฌ992 | Maximum monthly withdrawal |
| National visa fee | About Rs.8,106 | โฌ75 | Paid in INR at the embassy's own rate |
| Evaluation of foreign entrance qualification | Rs.7,025 | โฌ65 | Per application semester, Bachelor's route |
| Dormitory room, per month | Rs.32,424 to Rs.43,232 | โฌ300 to โฌ400 | Gรถttingen International estimate |
| Shared flat room, per month | Rs.48,636 to Rs.75,656 | โฌ450 to โฌ700 | Gรถttingen International estimate |
| Studio flat, per month | Rs.64,848 to Rs.86,464 | โฌ600 to โฌ800 | Gรถttingen International estimate |
| Average student spending, per month | Rs.91,003 | โฌ842 | DAAD figure for German students |
The housing ranges come from the university's housing page for degree-seeking students. One Studierendenwerk dormitory listing shows a deposit of Rs.43,232 (โฌ400) for a single room, and deposits vary by building. Our living expenses Q&A covers more day-to-day costs.
Exchange rate used: Rs.108.08 per euro. Verify the current rate before finalising your budget.
Counselor insight: Applicants often plan around the Rs.1,07,215 monthly release alone. The embassy warns that first-month costs such as a rent deposit can exceed it, so keep extra funds outside the blocked account for the first month.
Total Cost of a 2-Year Master’s After University of Goettingen Fees
A 2-year Master's on a standard Goettingen program costs about Rs.27,82,489 (โฌ25,744.72) when you add 24 months of living costs at the embassy's planning level to four semester fees. The university's own fees are only a small part of that total.
| Cost line | Calculation | In INR | In EUR |
|---|---|---|---|
| Semester fees | 4 semesters ร โฌ484.18 | Rs.2,09,321 | โฌ1,936.72 |
| Living costs | 24 months ร โฌ992 | Rs.25,73,169 | โฌ23,808 |
| Total | Rs.27,82,489 | โฌ25,744.72 |
The โฌ992 monthly figure is the embassy's planning amount, not a quote of what you will spend, so your real living costs may be lower or higher. If the semester fee rises to the indicative โฌ494.18 for 2027-28, the four fees come to Rs.2,13,644 (โฌ1,976.72).
A fee-charging program changes the picture. For GOMIL, one year of tuition at Rs.9,18,680 (โฌ8,500), two semester contributions of about Rs.1,08,080 (โฌ1,000) and 12 months at Rs.1,07,215 (โฌ992) come to about Rs.23,13,344 (โฌ21,404).
Exchange rate used: Rs.108.08 per euro. Verify the current rate before finalising your budget.
Counselor insight: Families often negotiate hard over a fee of a few thousand rupees. Living costs over 24 months are more than twelve times the semester fees here, so compare cities and housing options as carefully as you compare fee pages.
Payments and Documents for University of Goettingen Fees
You deal with two offices, the university for fees and the German Mission India for visa funds, so keep their paperwork separate. If you are unsure whether a public university still asks for a blocked account, see our answer on showing a blocked account for Germany public university fees.
| Item | Why it matters | India-specific detail |
|---|---|---|
| Admission letter | Starts your enrolment and shows your program | The embassy asks for proof of admittance with the language of instruction |
| Semester fee payment confirmation | Needed to enrol and re-register | Rs.52,330 (โฌ484.18) at the 2026/27 level; allow time for an international transfer from India |
| Blocked account confirmation | Proves first-year living funds | Rs.12,86,584 (โฌ11,904), with withdrawals capped at Rs.1,07,215 (โฌ992) a month |
| Tuition proof for two semesters | Needed only if the program charges tuition | GOMIL: Rs.9,18,680 (โฌ8,500) as a payment confirmation, education loan or extra deposit |
| Scholarship letter, if any | Can lower your fee category and serve as financial proof | The embassy accepts confirmation of a German or EU scholarship; German public funding also qualifies you for the Rs.44,224 fee |
| Health insurance proof | Needed for enrolment and the visa | The university's exchange data sheet says non-EU students need German public health insurance; cost |
| Evaluation fee receipt | Pays for checking your foreign entrance qualification | Rs.7,025 (โฌ65) per application semester, Bachelor's route |
The embassy checklist states that submitting these documents does not guarantee a visa, and incomplete files can be rejected.
Counselor insight: Keep a university folder and an embassy folder. Applicants who mix them often prepare the blocked account carefully and then forget the tuition proof that a fee-charging program adds to the embassy file.
Planning Calendar for University of Goettingen Fees: 2027/28 Intake
Start your fee planning in August 2026 for an October 2027 start, because the visa-stage cash needs the longest lead time. The calendar assumes you graduate around May or June 2027.
| Month | What to do | Fee link |
|---|---|---|
| Aug to Dec 2026 | Shortlist programs and check whether each is standard or fee-charging | Standard: no tuition; GOMIL: Rs.9,18,680 a year |
| Jan to Apr 2027 | Submit applications by each program's deadline | Bachelor's route: Rs.7,025 evaluation fee per application semester |
| May to Jun 2027 | Receive offers and decide | GOMIL: first instalment of Rs.2,29,670 due within six weeks of the offer |
| Jun to Jul 2027 | Open and fund the blocked account; choose your tuition-proof route if the program charges tuition | Rs.12,86,584; LeapScholar counselors advise opening it 4 to 6 weeks before the visa appointment |
| Jul to Aug 2027 | Attend the visa appointment with two document sets | Visa fee about Rs.8,106 |
| Sep 2027 | Secure housing and keep deposit money ready | Example dormitory deposit Rs.43,232 |
| Oct 2027 | Arrive, enrol and pay the semester fee | About Rs.53,411 if the indicative rise holds |
| Early 2028 | Re-register for the summer 2028 semester | Payment dates |
Counselor insight: Set a reminder for your first re-registration before you leave India. The semester fee is due every semester, and the first re-registration arrives only a few months after you land.
What to Do If Your University of Goettingen Fees Plan Goes Wrong
Most fee problems at Goettingen are fixable if you contact the Office of Student Affairs early, using the contacts on the semester fee page.
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| You cannot pay the semester fee on time | Contact Student Affairs before the deadline. The consequences of late payment at Goettingen are, so ask in writing and keep the reply. |
| The 2027-28 fee is higher than budgeted | Plan a buffer from the start. The fee rose by Rs.1,922 (โฌ17.78) in one semester, and the Studierendenwerk part rises by Rs.1,081 (โฌ10) from summer 2027. |
| Your visa is delayed and you cannot arrive for enrolment | Ask Student Affairs about your options. Students on a leave of absence pay Rs.16,969 (โฌ157) instead of the full fee. |
| You are charged the wrong fee category | If you hold German public scholarship funding, send proof so you pay Rs.44,224 instead of Rs.52,330. The university also has a page on reimbursement of semester fees. |
| Your studies run past the study credit | The Rs.54,040 (โฌ500) long-term fee applies per semester. The university's FAQ notes exemptions for disability, severe illness and other hardship, so apply with evidence. |
| You lack tuition proof for a fee-charging program | The embassy accepts a university payment confirmation, an education loan or an extra unblocked deposit. Choose a route before you fund the blocked account. |
Counselor insight: Students often wait until a payment problem becomes a deadline problem. A short written message to Student Affairs in the first week of trouble usually leaves more options open than a late explanation.
How to Reduce University of Goettingen Fees and Living Costs
The biggest saving at Goettingen is housing, because University of Goettingen fees are already low on standard programs. A Studierendenwerk dormitory room at Rs.32,424 to Rs.43,232 (โฌ300 to โฌ400) a month costs less than a shared-flat room at Rs.48,636 to Rs.75,656 (โฌ450 to โฌ700), according to the university's housing page. Degree-seeking students apply to the Studierendenwerk directly.
A scholarship from German public funds lowers your semester fee by Rs.8,106 (โฌ75), and a German or EU scholarship can also serve as visa proof of funds. The university lists the Germany Scholarship, the Lower Saxony scholarship and scholarship programs for gifted students on its financing page. Their amounts and eligibility for international students are, and DAAD deadlines for 2027/28 are also unpublished.
Counselor insight: Applicants often chase scholarships worth a few thousand rupees and overlook housing. Apply for a dormitory room as soon as you have your admission, because that choice affects your budget every month.
