dMAT Exam 2026 for Germany: Registration, Dates, Fee, Eligibility & Exam Pattern

dMAT (Digital Master Test) is a standardized aptitude test run by G.A.S.T. e.V., the organization behind TestDaF and TestAS. APS India made it mandatory for select Indian graduates applying to Germany from Summer Semester 2027.

dMAT does not replace APS India document verification it’s an additional requirement. You will need to complete APS verification and pay its fee separately. German universities added this requirement because grading norms vary widely across Indian institutions; dMAT gives them a standardized data point alongside your transcripts, similar to how TestAS works for undergraduate admissions.

Counselor insight: dMAT doesn't replace APS. Skipping either one leaves your application incomplete for Summer Semester 2027 onward.

If your degree is borderline (B.Sc. Statistics, B.Sc. Data Science, dual-major), email APS India for written clarification before registering. Don't assume based on subject overlap.

1. APS online registration completed before June 29, 2026, is grandfathered; no dMAT needed this cycle.
2. Physical documents submitted to APS India Delhi before June 29, 2026, are exempt, regardless of certificate issue date.
3. Winter 2026/27 semester applicants are unaffected; dMAT applies only from Summer 2027 onwards.

Counselor insight: The cutoff is the submission date, not the certificate issue date. Documents submitted June 27 with a certificate issued in July still qualify for exemption.

Total duration: 3.5 hours (including a 30-minute break). Computer-based, single-choice questions, available in English or German.

Core Module (90 min), language-independent, no notes allowed:

• Figure Sequences: geometric pattern recognition (IQ-style)
• Mathematical Equations: algebraic/deductive reasoning, no calculus
• Latin Squares: logical elimination grid puzzles
• Subject Module (90 min) developed with RWTH Aachen and University of Göttingen; tests applied analytical thinking, not memorization.

Which dMAT Subject Module Should You Choose?

Select the module matching your target German program, not your undergraduate major; e.g., a B.Tech graduate applying to MSc Finance selects Business, Commerce & Finance, not Electrical Engineering.

Don't submit APS documents before October 12; your dMAT certificate must be in hand first.

1. Create a G.A.S.T. account via the APS India dMAT portal.
2. Select your Subject Module.
3. Choose a test center city and date slot.
4. Upload required documents.
5. Pay Rs.16,300 (€150) via G.A.S.T.'s gateway.
6. Save the confirmation and download the admit card.

Counselor insight: Some Indian banks cap international debit transactions below €150. Confirm your limit with your bank before registration day.

Neither fee covers the other; they're independent transactions. This fee sits alongside other costs like TestDaF/IELTS and the German blocked account (€11,904/year, Rs.12.94 lakh).

Refund policy: Full refund within 14 days of registration (email kontakt@gast.de). Non-refundable after that except in documented emergencies. The APS Rs.18,000 fee is non-refundable under any circumstance.

Confirmed cities: Bengaluru, New Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Bhopal, Mananthavady, Ahmedabad.

Slots are first-come, first-served; metro centers fill earliest. Book your slot in the same session, as registration center availability is set at launch and doesn't expand mid-cycle.

• Range: 0-200; average benchmark is 100. The certificate shows the score and global percentile.
• Validity: Indefinite, no expiry.
• University use: Each German university sets its weight for the score. It doesn't replace CGPA thresholds or language requirements.
• Recognition check: Verify your target university via the Anabin Database.
• Score cutoffs aren't published yet since this group is the first cohort (results October 12). Targeting a score of 120-140/200 is a reasonable prep goal.

Counselor insight: Don't wait for benchmarks to apply; submit your application with your dMAT score as soon as you have it.

• Figure Sequences: Daily non-verbal reasoning/matrix puzzle practice (20 min/day)
• Mathematical Equations: Algebraic/number-series logic, not calculus
• Latin Squares: Logic-grid elimination practice (15 min/day from Week 1; this format is unfamiliar to most Indian test-takers and rewards specific practice)
• Subject Module: Revisit core degree concepts analytically, not formula memorization

• B.Tech/BE graduate targeting RWTH Aachen or TU Munich, Summer 2027: Mandatory. Register by Sept 15 and select your engineering subject module.
• B.Com/BBA/MBA targeting MSc Management, MSc Finance, or MBA in Germany: Mandatory. Select Business, Commerce & Finance; prioritize Mathematical Equations and Latin Squares in prep.
• Already submitted APS documents before June 29, 2026: Exemptions don't pay the dMAT fee.
• Unclear degree field (B.Sc. Statistics, dual-major, integrated MBA): Email APS India for written confirmation first. The fee isn't reversible.

3. Believing dMAT replaces TestDaF/IELTS, it tests only aptitude. Language proficiency remains a separate requirement.
