Japanese Government Scholarships for Research Students

Candidates who wish to pursue a Master’s or PhD in Japan can apply. However, candidates must score 65% in their Bachelor’s in any relevant field. This is applicable to any students pursuing a PhD. In addition, one must be pursuing Japan-related Humanities, Social Science related to Japan, Mathematical Science, Physics, Chemistry & Chemical Engineering, Biology & Biotechnology, Environmental Science, Agriculture & Fishery, Pharmaceutical Science and Civil engineering. This scholarship will provide an exemption of tuition fees, round-trip airfare, and a monthly stipend of JPY 144,000 (INR 96950). However, that is not all. Japan Educational Exchanges and Services offers this scholarship. This scholarship is highly competitive as only three awards are available for Indian students. Candidates pursuing undergraduate, Master or PhD can apply. An amount of 100,000 JPY per month is offered until the completion of the course. 

• J.T Asia Scholarship 

Candidates from India, Indonesia, Cambodia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, China, Korea, Taiwan, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Philippines, Bhutan, Brunei, Vietnam, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Mongolia, Laos, and Timor-Leste can apply for this scholarship. However, it is offered to master and doctoral students only. The stipend amount is 150,000 JPY per month for two years. 

• Sato Yo International Scholarship

Candidates from ASEAN countries and Southwest Asia pursuing Master’s or undergraduate can apply. At the undergraduate level, candidates will receive 150,000 JPY per month and 180,000 JPY/month for postgraduate. However, one must be proficient in Japanese.
