The University of Sheffield has more than doubled its automatic postgraduate scholarship for students from a select group of countries, including India, up from £3,000 to £7,000 (roughly Rs 8 lakh) for students starting a postgraduate taught degree in September 2027. Unlike many scholarships that require a separate application, this one is awarded automatically to eligible offer holders who simply accept their offer on time.
What the Scholarship Offers
- Value: £7,000 tuition fee reduction (Rs 8 lakh), applied directly against tuition.
- Eligible countries/regions: India, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, Nigeria, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Türkiye, and Vietnam. You must be a permanent resident of, or have lived in, one of these countries for the last three years.
- No separate application: the scholarship is awarded automatically once you accept your offer; there’s no essay, form, or additional documentation to submit.
- Deadline: Accept your offer before 4pm UK time on Tuesday, July 6, 2027.
- Intake: for students starting a postgraduate taught degree in September 2027.
Who Qualifies
- You must be self-funded and classified as an overseas student for tuition fee purposes.
- You must study your course in full, on campus, and full-time at the University of Sheffield. Online, distance-learning, split-campus (Crossways), and Erasmus Mundus programs are excluded.
- Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) and Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) courses don’t qualify; only full postgraduate taught (master’s-level) degrees do.
- If you’re doing a two-year master’s, the £7,000 lands in your second year, conditional on successfully completing year one.
- It can’t be combined with another Sheffield scholarship or discount or with external funding that already covers your full tuition. If you’re on a loan you must repay yourself, that’s fine and doesn’t affect eligibility.
- The award can’t be deferred: if you defer your entry to a later year, you lose it.

Why It Matters for Indian Students
A Rs 8 lakh tuition reduction is a meaningful dent in a UK master's budget, and the fact that it's automatic (no separate scholarship essay or interview) makes it genuinely low-effort compared to most awards of this size, the only real "action" required is accepting your offer before the July 6, 2027 deadline. Since India is one of just ten named countries, it's also a reasonably strong signal of where Sheffield is actively trying to grow its international enrollment.
The trade-offs worth knowing before counting on it: it only applies to full, on-campus, full-time postgraduate taught degrees, so it won't help with a PGDip, a split-campus program, or online study. And because it can't be stacked with other funding or scholarships, students should check whether they'd get more value from a different scheme (for instance, Sheffield's separate GREAT Scholarship for India has in past years offered a larger single award but is competitive and far more limited in number) before assuming the automatic route is the best available deal for their situation.
