Accountant Salary in Singapore 2027-28: What Indian Graduates Actually Earn

Quick Read

  • Singapore’s accountant median gross wage is S$5,968 monthly.
  • That converts to roughly Rs.4.49 lakh per month.
  • The median accountant wage falls below the Employment Pass floor.
  • Tax accountants earn a median S$10,085, far above general accounting.
  • Indian CAs get ISCA Associate status, not CA (Singapore).
  • Industry choice swings accountant pay by nearly two times.

Accountant Salary in Singapore: The Official Numbers

The median gross wage for an accountant in Singapore is S$5,968 a month (Rs.4,48,913), per the Ministry of Manpower’s Occupational Wage Survey for the June 2025 reference period, released on 30 June 2026. The median basic wage is S$5,833 (Rs.4,38,758).

That is the only authoritative figure on accountant salary in Singapore, and it is worth knowing what the alternatives look like. On the first page of search results for this exact query, Michael Page says S$70,000 a year, Jobstreet says S$4,200 to S$5,000 a month, Payscale says S$54,248 a year, and SalaryExpert says S$87,721. One result serves United States salary data for a job title it has misread as “Accountant In Singapore.” None of them uses the government figures, which are free.

The other thing nobody does is separate the job titles, which is where the accountant salary in Singapore picture actually gets useful. “Accountant” is a loose word, and MOM tracks nine distinct accountancy occupations that pay very differently.

Two qualifiers travel with every number above. They exclude bonuses, and they cover full-time resident employees, meaning Singapore citizens and permanent residents. An Indian graduate arriving on a work pass is not in this dataset.

Counselor insight: The word "accountant" costs students money. A job advertised as an accounting role can be titled assistant accountant at S$4,364 or accountant at S$5,968, and the work in the first year looks similar. Ask for the exact job title in the offer letter, because it sets your pay band and, as the next section shows, your visa.

Why the Median Accountant Salary in Singapore Misses the Visa Floor

Here is the finding that should change how you plan.

From 1 January 2027, a new Employment Pass application in the general sector requires a minimum qualifying salary of S$6,000 for candidates aged 23 or below. The median accountant basic wage is S$5,833. The typical accountant salary in Singapore does not clear the Employment Pass floor.

It gets harder with age, because the EP floor is benchmarked to the top third of local professional salaries and scales upward year by year. From January 2027 the general-sector requirement is S$6,500 at age 25 and S$7,250 at age 28. A qualified Indian CA with two or three years of experience, applying at 27 or 28, needs S$7,250. The accountant median is S$5,968 gross. Even the 75th percentile, S$7,953, only just clears it.

One precision note, because it matters. The EP threshold is assessed on fixed monthly salary, while MOM's gross wage figure includes overtime and variable allowances. Basic wage is the closer comparison, which is why the S$5,833 figure is the one to hold against S$6,000. The conclusion is the same on either measure.

So what are the realistic routes?

  • The S Pass, which requires S$3,600 a month from 1 January 2027. This is where most fresh graduate accountancy hires sit. It is quota-limited and carries a monthly levy for the employer, which is why firms ration it.
  • A top-quartile role, at S$7,953 or above. Achievable, but not as a first job.
  • A higher-paying industry. This is the underrated answer, and the next section covers it.

The financial services sector illustrates the point. Its EP floor is higher, at S$6,600 from January 2027, but the accountant gross median in Financial and Insurance Services is S$7,048. The sector with the tougher visa bar is the one where accountants actually clear it.

Counselor insight: Stop optimising for salary and start optimising for industry. A role at S$6,800 in financial services puts you on an Employment Pass with no quota and a path to renewal. A role at S$7,000 in food services does not exist. Same job title, completely different outcome.

Where the Money Actually Is

Three patterns in the MOM data decide an accountancy career in Singapore, and none of them is years of experience.

Industry, first. Here is the accountant gross median across the sectors MOM publishes.

IndustryAccountant gross medianIn INR
Information and CommunicationsS$8,250Rs.6,20,565

Accommodation and Food ServicesS$4,120Rs.3,09,906

Identical job title, double the pay at the top. Nothing else in this article moves your accountant salary in Singapore that much.

Specialisation, second. Tax accountants have a median gross wage of S$10,085 against S$5,968 for general accountants. That is 69 percent more for a role most Indian commerce graduates never consider as a distinct track.

Then the ceiling. Accountant gross median by age band runs S$4,977 at 25-29, S$6,000 at 30-39, S$6,540 at 40-49, and S$6,455 at 50-59. Read that last figure again. Pay peaks in the forties and then edges down. The accountant title itself tops out around S$6,500, and the people earning more have left the title: audit manager sits at S$10,650, financial accounting manager at S$10,136.

Counselor insight: Pick your industry in the first two years. Once you are titled and paid to a sector norm, moving from logistics accounting into financial services means taking a sideways step or a pay cut, and most people do not take it.

What You Keep From an Accountant Salary in Singapore

One structural point works in your favour, and it applies to any accountant salary in Singapore paid to a foreigner. Those on an Employment Pass or S Pass make no CPF contribution, and neither do their employers. A Singaporean colleague on the same salary loses 20 percent to CPF before it reaches her account, so your monthly take-home is higher on identical pay. The trade-off is that you build no retirement, housing, or medical savings balance, so you have to save deliberately.

Here is an illustrative budget for an accountant on the median S$5,968, sharing accommodation. These are estimates to check against current listings, not published figures.

Work through the cost of living in Singapore for a fuller picture, and the average salary in Singapore for Indian students if you want to benchmark accountancy against other fields.

Counselor insight: The 13th-month Annual Wage Supplement is customary in Singapore, not statutory. Before you compare a Singapore offer against an Indian CTC, ask in writing whether AWS and any variable bonus are included. That is the difference between comparing like with like and being disappointed in December.

Is Your Indian CA Recognised in Singapore?

This is the question qualified Indian CAs actually search for, and the honest answer has three parts.

Your ICAI qualification is recognised, but not as CA (Singapore). ISCA added ICAI to its list of Recognised Professional Qualifications on 13 February 2023 for admission as an associate (ISCA). That pathway requires local Singapore work experience. Associate status is real professional recognition and useful on a CV, but it is not the CA (Singapore) designation.

Full mutual recognition does not include ICAI. ISCA holds recognition arrangements that let full members convert to CA (Singapore) with CA ANZ, Chartered Accountants Ireland, CPA Australia, ICAEW and ICAS. India is not on that list. An Australian or British chartered accountant has a shorter route to CA (Singapore) than an Indian one does.

This changed a few weeks ago, and it is still moving. On 21 August 2026, ISCA announced approval of a proposed Module Exemption Agreement with ICAI. The agreement had not been formally executed and remains subject to approvals in India, but ISCA implemented specified exemptions from the Singapore CA Qualification for eligible ICAI members with effect from that date. Eligible candidates still have to meet the applicable entry, assessment, and remaining qualification requirements. ICAI and ISCA have also signaled intent to work toward a full Mutual Recognition Agreement.

For someone planning 2027-28, that means the exemption position you are reading about today may not be the one that applies when you file.

What you needIndia-specific detail
ICAI membership certificateFull member, in good standing
Degree certificates and transcriptsAttested; for SCAQ entry assessment
Exemption confirmationRequest your specific position from ISCA in writing
Singapore work experienceRequired for the Associate (ISCA) route
Passport and employment passName must match certificates exactly
Practical experience recordsFor the SCAQ practical experience requirement

If you are earlier in your career, note that ACCA and CPA Australia both have clearer conversion routes into CA (Singapore) than ICAI currently does, which is worth weighing before you commit years to one qualification.

Counselor insight: Do not assume your CA converts, and do not rely on a blog for your exemption position, including this one. Write to ISCA with your specific membership details and get the answer in writing. This arrangement changed in August 2026 and may change again before you apply.

Your 2027-28 Timeline for Accountant Salary in Singapore

WhenWhat you do
Mid-2027Complete your degree or CA. Confirm your ISCA exemption position in writing.
Jul to Sep 2027Join an Indian role in your target industry. Post-qualification experience starts now.
Through 2028Build experience in financial services, tech, or tax. Begin SCAQ modules if converting.
Jan to Mar 2029Update documents and attestations. Research employers by sector, not by brand.
Apr to Jul 2029Apply to Singapore roles. Check every offer against the EP floor for your age.
Aug to Oct 2029Offer accepted. Employer applies for the EP or S Pass and clears COMPASS.
Nov 2029 onwardPass issued. Relocate. Begin local experience toward Associate (ISCA).

Budget separately for ISCA membership and SCAQ fees, document attestation, and relocation, and verify each amount when you apply. If you are taking the study route first, the Singapore student visa process runs on a different timeline.

Counselor insight: Check the offer against the EP salary table for your exact age before you accept, not after. People accept at S$6,200 aged 27, then discover the floor for their age is S$7,000 and the application never gets filed.

When Things Go Wrong with Accountant Salary in Singapore

Your offer falls below the Employment Pass floor. However good the accountant salary in Singapore sounds in rupees, the application will not be filed. Either negotiate the fixed salary upward, or accept that the role is an S Pass role and check whether the employer has quota.

The employer has no S Pass quota left. Nothing you can do about it, and it is the most common silent rejection for fresh graduates. Ask early whether the role is EP or S Pass, and whether quota is available.

The application clears salary but fails COMPASS. Meeting the salary floor is only stage one. Unless exempted, the application needs 40 points on the Complementarity Assessment Framework, which weighs your qualifications alongside your employer's workforce profile. A strong candidate at a firm with a thin local base can still fail.

You are titled assistant accountant, not accountant. A gap of roughly S$1,600 a month at the median, and it also drops you further below the visa threshold. Raise it before signing.

Your ISCA exemption is not granted. Exemptions are assessed individually and the ICAI arrangement is newly implemented. Get your position confirmed in writing before you plan around it.

The offer is withdrawn during pass processing. Do not resign your Indian job until the pass is issued, not when the offer letter arrives.

Counselor insight: Every one of these is survivable if you have not resigned or moved yet. The people who get hurt treated the offer letter as the finish line.

3 Takeaways on Accountant Salary in Singapore

  1. Check the offer against the EP table for your exact age. The median accountant salary in Singapore does not clear the January 2027 floor, and the floor rises every year of your age. Do this before you accept, not after.
  2. Choose the industry, not the employer. Information and communications pays an accountant salary in Singapore median of S$8,250; food services pays S$4,120. Nothing else in your control moves your pay that far.
  3. Get your ISCA exemption position in writing. The ICAI arrangement was implemented in August 2026 and is still developing. Ask ISCA directly rather than planning around any published summary.

Frequently Asked Questions About Accountant Salary in Singapore

  • What is the average accountant salary in Singapore per month?

The median gross wage is S$5,968, about Rs.4.49 lakh, per MOM's Occupational Wage Survey for June 2025. The basic median is S$5,833. Both figures exclude bonuses and cover full-time resident employees, so a new arrival on a work pass should expect less.

  • What happens if my offer is below the Employment Pass threshold?

The employer cannot file an EP application, regardless of how strong your profile is. Your options are to negotiate the fixed monthly salary above the floor for your age, or to take the role on an S Pass if the employer has quota. Ask which pass the role is intended for before you accept.

  • Should I do ACCA or CPA instead of relying on my Indian CA?

Both have clearer conversion routes into CA (Singapore) than ICAI currently does, which matters if Singapore is your long-term plan. If you are already an Indian CA, the new SCAQ exemptions have narrowed that gap, so check your specific position with ISCA before starting another qualification.

  • What is the accountant salary in Singapore in Indian rupees?

At Rs.75.22 per Singapore Dollar, the median of S$5,968 works out to Rs.4,48,913 a month, roughly Rs.53.9 lakh a year. An assistant accountant at S$4,364 earns Rs.3,28,260 a month. Verify the exchange rate before planning around these figures.

  • Which accountancy role pays the most?

Among the roles MOM tracks, audit manager leads at a gross median of S$10,650, followed by budgeting and financial accounting manager at S$10,136 and tax accountant at S$10,085. Tax is the one that is reachable as a specialisation rather than a promotion.

  • Will an accountant salary in Singapore qualify me for an Employment Pass?

Usually not at the median. From January 2027 the general-sector floor is S$6,000 at age 23, rising to S$6,500 at 25 and S$7,250 at 28. The accountant basic median is S$5,833. You need a top-quartile role or a higher-paying industry to clear it.

  • Can I become a CA (Singapore) with an Indian CA?

Not by direct conversion. ISCA's full recognition arrangements cover CA ANZ, Chartered Accountants Ireland, CPA Australia, ICAEW and ICAS, not ICAI. From 21 August 2026, eligible ICAI members receive specified exemptions from the Singapore CA Qualification, so the route is shorter than before but still runs through SCAQ.

  • Is my Indian CA recognised in Singapore?

Yes, as a route to Associate (ISCA) membership. ISCA added ICAI to its Recognised Professional Qualifications list in February 2023, and that pathway requires local Singapore work experience. It is not the same as holding the CA (Singapore) designation.

  • What will I earn as a fresh Indian graduate?

Most likely an assistant accountant or audit associate role, with medians of S$4,364 and S$5,600 respectively. These sit below the Employment Pass floor, so expect an S Pass, which requires S$3,600 from January 2027 and depends on your employer having quota available.
