The Jagiellonian University acceptance rate is commonly quoted as 30-39%, but other websites say 53% or even 65%. None of these figures comes from Jagiellonian University (UJ) itself. UJ publishes applicant numbers and seats per program for Polish citizens only. Indian applicants go through a separate track in which an interview, not your board percentage, decides your ranking. Your real odds depend on the program and the admission round you choose.

uniRank places UJ in the 30 to 39% band, and notes that rates vary by field, degree level and nationality. EduRank says its 53% is its own calculation, based on the ratio of admissions to applications and other circumstantial enrolment data. admission.ai lists the medical college at 65.0% with an average SAT of 1150. Polish universities do not use the SAT, so that number was not built from UJ admissions.

What UJ's own numbers show

For 2026-27, the first stage of UJ's main admission round for Polish citizens (bachelor's and long-cycle programs) produced 42,077 applications from 23,401 candidates. At the same stage a year earlier, there were 18,199 candidates. UJ attributes the jump to an unusually large cohort of students taking the matura that year and to 13 new programs.

UJ offered a little over 17,000 places in total, nearly 10,000 of them for school-leavers. Using that figure:

• Per application: about 10,000 ÷ 42,077, or roughly 24%.
• Per person: about 10,000 ÷ 23,401, or roughly 43%, because most candidates apply to more than one program.

Counselor insight: When a website quotes an acceptance rate built on SAT scores or GPAs for a Polish university, treat it as a generic template figure, not admissions data.

Jagiellonian University Acceptance Rate by Program

The overall Jagiellonian University acceptance rate hides very different levels of competition between programs. These are UJ's 2026-27 figures for Polish citizens.

Dentistry was the most competitive program, with 19.11 applicants per seat, up from 12.05 the previous year. Electroradiology followed at 16.78, and philosophy faculty psychology at 14.63. Law drew the most applicants in absolute terms: 2,586 for 350 places. Medicine attracted 1,779 applicants for 252 places, up from 1,243 in 2025-26.

These ratios describe Polish-language programs and Polish applicants competing on matura scores. They show which subjects are crowded, not your personal odds as an Indian applicant. For comparison with other Polish universities, see top universities in Poland.

Counselor insight: Competition rose sharply in 2026 because of a larger matura cohort. Don't assume 2027 will be easier. Plan as if the 2026 ratios hold.

How Jagiellonian Admits Indian Students: Interviews, Not Board Marks

This is the most important point for Indian applicants. UJ runs a separate admission process for everyone without Polish citizenship, and it works differently from the Polish track.

For most programs, foreign applicants sit an online interview, usually on MS Teams, that assesses their aptitude for the program and their language ability at B2 level or above. The interview result forms the ranking list; grades from your certificate or diploma are not counted.

In practice, this means:

• A 95% CBSE score does not automatically beat a 78% score. The interview decides your ranking.
• The Jagiellonian University acceptance rate for Indian students is effectively set by how many places a program has and how strong the interview field is. UJ publishes ranking lists for foreigners but no foreigner acceptance rate. We found no official figure for Indian or non-EU applicants.
• Some programs use entrance exams instead of interviews. The Joint Bachelor in Sustainability, for example, held an entrance exam on 21 April 2026.

Counselor insight: Prepare for the interview as seriously as a board exam. Expect questions on why you chose the program, your understanding of the subject, and your English fluency. Practise answering on video, not just on paper.

Jagiellonian University Admission Requirements for Indian Students

Whether you need extra documents depends on your citizenship and where your certificate was issued. The rules apply to non-Polish citizens who are not from the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland or the UK, and whose school certificate was issued outside Poland, the EU, OECD, EFTA, Ukraine or China. Indian citizens with Indian certificates fall into this group.

For bachelor's and long-cycle programs, the most time-consuming documents at enrolment are:

• An apostille or legalisation of your school certificate.
• A B2 certificate in the language of instruction.
• NAWA's individual recognition statement (NAWA is Poland's national academic exchange agency).

If you don't yet have your final certificate and present a completion certificate at enrolment instead, the NAWA statement must accompany that document too.

For master's applicants with a degree from outside the EU, OECD or EFTA, UJ requires NAWA's individual recognition statement, and notes that this is not the same as the PDF from NAWA's automated Kwalifikator (Qualificator) tool.

For English proficiency, UJ program pages ask for B2 English from the list published by Poland's Ministry of Science. That national list sets IELTS at a minimum of 5.5 and TOEFL iBT at a minimum of 72. Duolingo is not on it; see Duolingo accepted universities in Poland.

Counselor insight: Apply for NAWA recognition the day your documents are ready. It is the step most likely to delay enrolment.

Indian students often shortlist both. Here is how the two compare on the factors that actually decide admission.

The two universities' published totals measure different groups, so they cannot be compared directly. UW reported 38,800 candidates and 76,900 registrations for 2026-27, and its medicine program drew 32.78 applicants per seat. UJ charges a 100 PLN application fee; UW charges 85 PLN, or 100 PLN where an exam or interview is involved. In the QS World University Rankings 2027, UW placed 289th and UJ 329th.

Counselor insight: UJ's February start suits students who are ready early. UW's June round suits students who need their board results first. Many Indian applicants benefit from applying to both.

What Applying to Jagiellonian Costs in INR

Each application costs Rs.2,513 (100 PLN). Unpaid applications, or ones paid after the deadline, are not considered.

For English-taught programs, UJ says first-year fees range from PLN 16,000 (Rs.4,02,080) for Environmental Protection and Management to EUR 15,500 (Rs.16,58,500) for the English-taught MD. Fees are paid per semester, and newly admitted students must pay the first installment within 7 days of enrollment.

As an example, the International Relations and Area Studies bachelor's lists 5,000 EUR per year, 15,000 EUR in total. That is Rs.5,35,000 a year, or Rs.16,05,000 for the full three years.

Jagiellonian University Application Timeline for 2027-28

UJ has not published its 2027-28 dates. This calendar follows the 2026 pattern: undergraduate round 1 ran from 23 February to 9 March with results on 31 March, and round 2 ran until 11 May with results on 2 June.

What to Do If Your Jagiellonian Application Goes Wrong

You missed round 1. Apply in a later round, but these open only for programs that still have free places. Keep a second program in mind.

Your interview went badly. Apply to a different program in the next round, and practice interviews on video before trying again.

Your board results come too late. Ask UJ admissions whether a provisional or completion certificate is accepted at enrolment. Remember that your NAWA statement must still accompany it.

Your NAWA statement is delayed. Contact UJ's admissions team before your enrolment deadline, not after it.

You paid the application fee late. UJ does not consider unpaid or late-paid applications, so pay early.

You qualified only in September. A Polish D visa before October is difficult from that point. Consider deferring, or look at cheaper alternatives abroad.
