Is PTE Accepted in the Netherlands?

Yes, but only recently, and only at specific institutions. PTE Academic was officially recognised for admission to Dutch higher education on 7 November 2024, by the National Commission for the Code of Conduct Higher Education. That recognition made it possible for Dutch universities to accept PTE Academic scores. It did not require them to.

Every one of them lists only TOEFL iBT, IELTS Academic and Cambridge Assessment English (C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency). None mentions PTE at all. Multiple aggregator sites list TU Delft at "PTE 58" or "PTE 63," and both figures appear to be fabricated rather than sourced to the university.

Leiden University also does not list PTE Academic among its accepted tests. Its published entry requirements and exchange program guidance name IELTS Academic, TOEFL iBT and Cambridge English only. An independent third-party verification service that checks university admissions pages directly confirms the same finding: Leiden has not published a PTE policy either way, which for practical purposes means it should be treated as not accepted until the university says otherwise.

Tilburg University's own bachelor's and master's admission pages list IELTS Academic, TOEFL iBT and Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency as the only accepted tests, across both the general application pages and individual program pages checked for this research. At least one aggregator claims Tilburg requires PTE 62 for its master's programs; Tilburg's own site does not support this.

Counselor insight: If TU Delft, Leiden or Tilburg is genuinely your first choice, do not sit PTE hoping the policy has quietly changed since this research was done. Email the admissions office directly for written confirmation, or sit IELTS Academic or TOEFL iBT instead, both of which are accepted without exception at every Dutch university named in this article.

Which PTE Accepted University in Netherlands Fits Your Profile?

If you are a BTech graduate with a PTE score of 62, applying for a master's: this clears Wageningen's master's requirement of 62 overall, provided your speaking subscore reaches 59. It falls short of University of Amsterdam's 71 and Erasmus School of Economics' 70. Wageningen, strong in agriculture, environmental science and life sciences, is a realistic and well-ranked target at this score.

If you are a commerce graduate with a PTE score of 71 and strong subscores across all four skills: this clears University of Amsterdam's master's requirement outright, along with Erasmus School of Economics, VU Amsterdam and University College Utrecht. At this level, your shortlist decision should be driven by program fit rather than English score, since you clear every confirmed institution in this article.

If your PTE score is 58: none of the confirmed institutions in this article currently accept that score. Rather than retaking PTE immediately, check whether the gap to Wageningen's 61 (bachelor's) is closeable with a focused month of practice, particularly on speaking, which tends to be the weakest section for Indian test-takers relative to its weight in Dutch subscore requirements.

Your overall score clears but a subscore does not. This is a common failure point at University of Amsterdam and University College Utrecht, both of which set per-skill floors alongside the overall number. A retake is the only fix, since Dutch universities generally require every skill to clear its floor from a single sitting.

Your score expires before the relevant deadline. Check whether your target university measures the two-year window from your application date or your enrolment date; these are genuinely different rules across institutions, and assuming the wrong one can mean sitting the test again unnecessarily, or too late.

Your claimed exemption is rejected. A degree that was "mostly" taught in English is not the same as a degree the university certifies as English-medium.
